Oh, the lovely non-captured ONS use it @DadJoke , that's me told . They definitely know what they are talking about as proved by the court case, that's me told.

Any actual legal definition from you, legal government source, anything? or will you blather on about the NHS using it a bit more first, so that should all be fine?

LK1972 · 30/06/2022 20:56

Thanks to you I now understand exactly what is meant by 'be kind', Discover, that's the away I will approach those I don't agree with in the future, by calling them thick and stupid. Well done you!

LK1972 · 30/06/2022 20:53

Ooh, that's the kind way forward wims:' I decided let them go on protesting a perfectly good English word that they cannot seem to grasp the literal meaning of because it simply highlights how thick and stupid they really are.'

Your bridge-building mask is slipping, @Discovereads

They are not assigned.

Sex is observed, frequently on scans before birth, and simply noted as fact. This is linguistic crowbarring for another agenda.

Lol, googling 'assign legal term' first result gives me this :' Assign is the act of transferring rights, property, or other benefits to another party (the assignee) from the party who holds such benefits under contract (the assignor). This concept is used in both contract and property law'.

So yeah, I agree it's a legal term @DadJoke, it just doesn't mean what you think it does

I was literally quoting the ONS website on the definition of sex. It means that the child is examined and assigned to a sex category which is added to the birth certificate. This is the term used in law, by the NHS, and unsurprisingly by the RCN. This article has confected outrage from people who live to be outraged.

Nobody "assigned" my son's gender. I was informed of his sex when fragments of his fetal DNA were harvested from my bloodstream and tested at 9 weeks' gestation.

That must be very inconvenient for them.

I came on to post the same, I had NIPT at 10 weeks, so have none my DDs chromosomal make up ever since.

Because anyone who's been following this debate for a while is well aware that 'assigned' is appropriated language from the time before clear chromosomal tests for people with DSD were available, when sexing a child with DSD could be a matter of 'best guess' and this is an area of other people's hardships that I'm not going to go further into because people with DSD have repeatedly asked not to be weaponised in this way by those with unambiguous biological sex who would like to be able to blur the boundaries for their own purposes.

It is helpful in the TQ+ political debate to encourage the use of 'assigned' which implies that gender is something coercively imposed at birth that the person may later reject. However it attempts to conflate sex with gender and make it so that biological sex escapes boundaries and definitions and can be self defined and by doing so tries to remove everyone else's boundaries and sex based rights.

In short: a baby's sex is observed or established by actual, fixed, unchanging fact, and it is not 'generally' male or female, it is one of two sexes. The child's gender is something they will tell you about when they choose to. Probably in a very great amount of detail.

Artichokeleaves · 30/06/2022 17:47

Where exactly in law is it stated that sex is 'assigned' and that 'assigned' in fact means sexed?

Where is that on the Hansard record please and who voted on it?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 30/06/2022 17:44

The word assigned is grammatically wrong though.

If you assign something, you take one from a range of options and allocate it to that thing. So it's in the control of the person doing the assigning.

In what way is biological sex able to be picked and applied to the body on birth?

Johnnysgirl · 30/06/2022 17:29

DadJoke · 30/06/2022 17:28

Assigned is the legal term. That’s it.

No debate in full glorious technicolour 😂
There's a good reason these people take this stance rather than actually argue their point.

DadJoke · 30/06/2022 17:28

Assigned is the legal term. That’s it.

More Daily Mail anti-trans hyperbole. God forbid anyone use more inclusive language around transgender birth parents.

Erm, sorry joke of a dad but all transgender people, whether they like it or not, are the sex that they are, and they are the sex that they are, since conception.

I know, it's very painful so you might have to sit down and catch your breath at this. The Midwife didn't wave the sorting hat over your children and assign them anything, the moment they were born.

Johnnysgirl · 30/06/2022 16:05

If it's 'anti trans' to not pretend to this then oh well. I'll take that over anti reality and anti basic common sense.
Hear, hear 👏

countrygirl99 · 30/06/2022 15:29

Could explain a lot.
"Sorry, we are over quota on girls this week. This one with a vagina will have to be a boy". 10 years down the line "trans"

Artichokeleaves · 30/06/2022 15:23

referring to the biological aspects of an individual as determined by their anatomy, which is produced by their chromosomes, hormones and their interactions

Yes.

generally male or female

Yes.

something that is assigned at birth

No.

It's observed. Frequently months before birth. If there's any doubt about visual clarity of sex by the anatomy observed then you can test the dna fragments in the mother's blood or do a chromosomal analysis on the child when born, which will clarify sex.

No one assigns anything. There is not a sorting hat. If it's 'anti trans' to not pretend to this then oh well. I'll take that over anti reality and anti basic common sense.

Plasmodesmata · 30/06/2022 15:14

Oh yes, well you see, he was a very perceptive man, Sir Thomas Moore.

littlbrowndog · 30/06/2022 15:10

Yeah artichoke. It’s lying everyone knows it’s lying

they know that we know they are lying and they know that we know they are lying

and if sex was assigned at birth then how come so many baby girls are aborted in some countries

why can’t they be assigned boys at birth ? If that’s how it works.

The millions of missing girls

MontanaMountains · 30/06/2022 14:50

So if you give birth to a female baby, but really wanted a male baby, you can just assign the female as male at birth? How progressive.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 30/06/2022 14:38

I was nonplussed at that until I saw the username and I realised it was, as advertised, a joke. Nice one! Have you considered changing your name to EjaculatingParentMicroaggression to be more inclusive?

DadJoke · 30/06/2022 14:32

More Daily Mail anti-trans hyperbole. God forbid anyone use more inclusive language around transgender birth parents.

The document isn't telling anyone what language to use it's suggesting that language be inclusive where appropriate.

"In our language we will aim to add and not take away, taking into account the importance of preserving women-centred language as well as including language for those who do not identify as a woman."

Then it points to the diversity policy which does not mention "assigned at birth."

"Assigned at birth" the government's defintion and has a legal meaning.

The UK government defines sex as:

referring to the biological aspects of an individual as determined by their anatomy, which is produced by their chromosomes, hormones and their interactions

generally male or female

something that is assigned at birth

That's bullshit and you know it.

It has been raining all day so I have assigned today as 'wet'.

Surely you had the option to assign "sunny"? Is that not how it works? The rain is all your own fault...
