@PonyPatter44 The thing to do with those whose views you oppose is to listen to what they say and construct reasoned arguments against them with a view to persuading and informing them so that they change their position. That is the founding premise of any democracy.

What do the T and Q mean?

Trans and whatever you want it to mean

PonyPatter44 · 28/06/2022 19:36

LF is an obnoxious cunt, I'm not getting on board with ANY of his loathsome rhetoric. Yeah thats lovely that he's GC, but apart from that he can just fuck off with his vileness.

The enemy of my enemy is not always my friend.

Lgbtq Is sexual preference. And so yes it’s a celebration of non heterosexual sex

I would not be surprised if that man is not gay/bisexual.

Time and time again people with other agendas attach themselves to the gay rights movement.

Outwiththenorm · 28/06/2022 19:18

I don’t know how new any of this stuff is, just more obvious with social media perhaps. DH and I went to Sydney Pride about 25 years ago and there was a strutting naked man with an erection that he’d painted bright blue.

Everyone knows that Pride is for pups and adult babies.

Sorry slight derail but on the topic of adult babies...

I saw this YouTube video this morning. Be warned it's not an easy watch/listen.

I thought about starting a thread but I had no idea what to put in a post to accompany it, I just couldn't find the words.

NorthStarRising · 28/06/2022 18:44

Way back when, Pride wasn’t a kiddie fest with free ballon modelling and cupcakes. It was a protest, attended by adults.
It’s evolved over the last fifty years, into an all-inclusive generic festival, and now it’s evolving again.

Artichokeleaves · 28/06/2022 18:36

And there are several comments in this thread proving that for many, the behaviour of the TQ+ lobby has impacted on how they see LGB people, and they will reject us too when they throw out the insane thinking of the queer politics agenda.

As a lesbian, thanks for that. Thanks Stonewall. Women and gay rights hurled back into the dark ages because blokes liked exhibitionism and shoving boundaries, and shoved until it broke, and no one these days ever has the guts to say no.

The world is becoming a fucking miserable place to have to live in, as a woman and as a homosexual.

onmytodd78 · 28/06/2022 18:36

Why is Pride necessary for LGB anyway? I thought they had all their rights and freedoms sorted for years now.

I agree with this, it's gone far enough now and could probably do with being dialed back a little TBH.

I'm glad Lawrence Fox has got involved, it's nice to see someone with common sense making a stand.

Braggiography · 28/06/2022 18:34

Yes, OP.

Quite obviously, no, it isn't. What we need now is for lesbians, gay men and bisexual people to speak up and say 'Not in our name'.

We've been screaming it for years.

It gets called hate speech, we're excluded, silenced and told it would be much better if we'd be straight 'overcome our genital preferences'. So far no MPs are listening.

It's like women have been screaming too.

It's amazing how little voice and power real oppression has.

I attended pride London once with a group of my gay friends. I was honestly horrified with a lot of what I saw and will never attended again !

No, we don't.

I take my daughter to Pride because seeing other two-mum couples with children does a bit to counterbalance the people who send hate mail, or tell us she needs a dad, or say she can't have two mums.

Echobelly · 28/06/2022 18:17

I think total nudity is a bit of an outlier, TBF.

There is a split among LGBTQ people that I know, with some feeling that Pride was always about shocking the status quo and fetish is a legit part of the overall scene and those who say, as have some people on this thread, that Pride was all about showing that gay people were like everyone else. I think the fact is it's been both of those to different people.

I don't think it's at all the case that the children came and OMG now, suddenly,. there's all these pervs turning up who were never there before; it's more the 'pervs' were always there and then the kids started turning up as same-sex parents became much more common (I was at Pride 30 years ago so I know what it was like then).

People just didn't note it as much as generally it wasn't an event for kids. I recognise that does create a tension now, but I also don't think we can just say 'Sorry, everyone kinky has to put it away now' because that's a big part of the scene and identity for quite a lot of people. Maybe organisers need to declare 'adult' and 'family' parts of the march and if people are going to watch they need to know there may be some sexual stuff on display?

FWIW, I think if kids see someone who likes to dress up as a dog or a pony or whatever, if they ask anything you can just say 'Those people like to dress up for fun' - that's it. You don't have to explain BDSM to them! They're really not going to want to know more than that and it doesn't have to 'destroy their innocence'

CandyLeBonBon · 28/06/2022 18:07

@HydraWater I hate to burst your bubble but being LGB is STILL far from normalised I'm afraid, and unfortunately there's still far too many people who view being same sex attracted or bisexual as some kind of personality flaw. If you think otherwise, I'm guessing you're heterosexual!

There may be pockets of anti LGB stuff going on I suppose, but for the most part no one gives a damn what people do as long as it's legal and not corrupting to children (or adults). That applies to all sexual orientations BTW.

Sorry that you may experience otherwise. Have you any examples? I'm guessing it might be from those with an ultra religious viewpoint...

Men in dog masks being led by drag Queens in Edinburgh Pride March . Not quite sure what that has to do with Pride, unless they got Best in Show

Ironic that about the only sexual identity that Pride won't celebrate these days is same sex attraction.
