Catgender: 'where someone feels that the closest way to describe their gender identity is by making the equation to a cat in particular, cats in general, or by comparing their gender identity to certain cat-like features.'

I found out today there is a range of subtypes, including

Meowgender: 'people who feel strongly connected to older and/or full-grown cats. Meowgender people have various reasons for relating to older cats, such as personality, behaviour, or aesthetics.'

Presumably the subtypes share an impulse to disrupt events held by cisfelines (those born as cats), and demand equal access to litter trays.

I have no idea whether this thread is a joke or not and I’m too exhausted to Google.

Learning about graysexuality the other day was confusing enough…

Catgender, Meowgender and Mewgender are genuine gender categories some people identify with. The pronouns helpfully researched by aweegc are genuinely those recommended for people identifying as catgender. Nyan is genuinely Japanese for meow, hence Nyan-binary.

Some of the other comments might possibly be wry reflections on these facts.

I've always secretly identified as part cat. Made my first meaningful attachment to a cat and they've been precious to me ever since. Nursery used to complain to my mother about me constantly pretending to be a cat. I can't pass a random cat without curiosity and delight.

I'm a female cat purrrrson though so I'll stick with she/her.

Meow!

She/purr you mean?

DappledOliveGroves · 27/06/2022 20:06

Bristol University certainly seems to think cat gender and pronouns are credible:

Though nothing would surprise me anymore with that institution 🙄

My DS (now 15) used to regularly dress as a sheep at weekends after I made him a sheep costume for a play in Y2.

He is not baaa-sexual 😉

ChagSameachDoreen · 27/06/2022 19:53

Nyan-binary 🤣🤣🤣🤣

They HAVE to be fucking with us now. This absolutely cannot be serious.

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/06/2022 19:53

That explains this then

Are there 50 shades of it?

The future is catastrophic.

Georgeskitchen · 27/06/2022 19:15

Can they lick their own arse? 🤣

Conflictedunicorn · 27/06/2022 19:14

I feel a bit idolcatgebder today.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/06/2022 19:13

Slothgender for me. Pronouns: zzzzz.

takingmytimeonmyride · 27/06/2022 19:09

I've always said I identify as a cat - I like to sleep and eat. I'd love to pop into several houses and eat their food. Now they can't stop me because transcats are cats and they would be bigots if they denied my authentic self.

I will do it later, it's nap time again.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 27/06/2022 19:08

I told my cat I identify as meowgender. The look on his face suggest I'm not going to "pass" so now I've been triggered by his refusal to validate my feelings.

Rude.

VeryQuaintIrene · 27/06/2022 19:07

Ooh, wonder if I dare use one of those as my pronoun sign-off next semester?

SoManyQuestionsHere · 27/06/2022 19:05

Damnit, @nightwakingmoon, you're not making my choice any easier. Which is, obviously, not helping my impression of you!

Now feed me tuna or consider yourself hissed at!

GCAcademic · 27/06/2022 19:04

What about those of us who are dog people?

nightwakingmoon · 27/06/2022 19:02

As I was posting on another thread, you can identify as all sorts of cats!

catspacegender
catpacigender
dawncatgender
robotcatgender
cattherian
anglicatic
analogcatic
Catkin
catthing
idolcatgender
orangecatgender

and so on. The sky’s the limit, really… (not if you are dawncatgender though I suppose 🤣)

SoManyQuestionsHere · 27/06/2022 19:02

*piss

SoManyQuestionsHere · 27/06/2022 19:01

Yeah, I'm definitely something feline gender (though I'll have to give a little more thought to the meowgender vs cat gender distinction).

Did you know that over 40% of domestic cat (felis catus) sleep more than 18 hours a day? Also, I've always wanted to curl up in a ball and fall asleep wherever I currently happen to be.

Not to mention the "getting away with hissing and scratching people because they pass me the fuck off!"

I very strongly identify with all of the above.

PotteringPondering · 27/06/2022 18:58

My 4 year old likes to pretend to be 'teddy kitty' 😱is this a warning sign he's on the path to being meowgender!?

At that age, I'd say more likely to be Mewgender, 'those who feel a strong connection with younger felines and/or kittens.'

Thanks for the pronouns.

dropthevipers · 27/06/2022 18:53

wasn't catwomen one of batman's sidekicks? Who knew an american seventies tv kids show was prophetic?
