Breaking: DFE has left Stonewall

"we do not feel it provides value for money for the service it provides and we shared concerns across government about the charity's stance on free speech"

Well good. They need to follow the law and guarantee free speech, and if EDI employees or anyone else is stopping that happening, they need to be held accountable.

💪

BrambleyHedge · 27/06/2022 19:17

I think the reference to capital funding on the second page is probably a veiled threat though. An OfS letter with more specifics will probably follow.

All the EDI people are going off on one.

Of course they are. They make a very nice living doing bugger all else other than some meaningless corporate virtue-signalling.

@GCAcademic I can't do Twitter links but look up jim_dickinson from wonkhe. He has a screenshot of the letter

Thank you. The letter doesn’t go far enough, imo.

achillestoes · 27/06/2022 19:09

They’re calling it a naked threat. But the bit I don’t understand is, if these initiatives don’t threaten free speech (making universities vulnerable to liability) the letter is very clear that they’re not an issue. So it can only really be that they want to keep them and break the law?

Brilliant news. The tide continues to turn.

TidyDancer · 27/06/2022 19:03

Oh this is bloody brilliant news! Let's hope it's the beginning of the end of this dreadful organisation in its current form.

University minister has written to universities today tell them to think very carefully about signing up to equality charter marks/ free speech concerns...though she references the Race Equality Charter. Looks like bonfire of the charter marks.

Do you have a source for this, please @BrambleyHedge

About bloody time

Stonewall should have its charitable status rescinded until there has been wholesale purge of the extremists within it.

Good point, hugely valuable concession, not deserved.

Blackandwhitehorse · 27/06/2022 19:01

It’s good news, but is the ideology just embedded now anyway? Like with the BBC.

achillestoes · 27/06/2022 19:01

They’re going after them, then?

WildIris · 27/06/2022 19:00

Well it’s about bloody time! Fantastic news!

viques · 27/06/2022 19:00

Good news. Let’s hope they ask schools who have been stonewalled to remove their approved by stonewall logos from their websites

The comment about free speech is interesting. They could have just used the value for money issue as a reason for leaving but have chosen to go further.

Yes it absolutely makes the point.

stillsmilingtoday · 27/06/2022 18:58

Great news! Hopefully the tide is turning. I’ve seen a number of children going down the trans route, it’s been alarming. The oldest has decided she is no longer a man and now identifies as non-binary. Thank goodness she wasn’t given hormone blockers. It has to stop being advertised to children in schools that they might be if the opposite gender.

MarshaBradyo · 27/06/2022 18:58

Great news

No organisation that is anti freedom of speech and democratic process should receive the benefits of public finance.

YehIdidit · 27/06/2022 18:56

This is marvellous news. Now provide some reality-based, safeguarding-compliant guidance for schools please DFE.
