Boris Johnson speaks again

He says if you’re born with a penis you’re a man. He reiterates his three concerns about trans issues: Gillick competence for children receiving transitioning treatments, women’s spaces, sports. He says we need to treat people with sensitivity but he sees no reason to dissent from what FINA say is appropriate in women’s swimming.

These comments are reported in the Daily Mail and he made them on his Rwanda trip.

Yep.

Yes, it’s a prevailing myth that Starmer is somehow hiding his skepticism about trans rights from the public. Complete nonsense. He’s committed to self-ID. He calls childhood transition a human rights issue. He says TWAW. He couldn’t be clearer.

He is being less explicit through cowardice, not lack of belief. And he tells us he has integrity. Integrity includes having the courage to tell people what you believe and face the argument.

AnyFucker · 27/06/2022 12:31

I am not convinced that Johnson is using this topic to catch voters or to deflect from other issues. The general public are mostly ignorant of the danger to women and children (for now)

achillestoes · 27/06/2022 12:29

‘They, like you, persist in monstering people with different opinions and priorities. It's the very definition of insanity.’

I know, it’s unbelievable how the materialist party of ordinary people now appears to want to talk down to ordinary people from a platform of metaphysical moralising. Fuck off, I’m not interested. 😂

FOJN · 27/06/2022 12:27

The mind boggles how you can be left wing for years but one issue and you sell your soul.

No one sold their soul. Women did not abandon the left, the left abandoned women and we refused to chase after them begging for crumbs.

I look forward to the next election campaign where despite an open goal the Labour party could still fuck it up by by name calling the electorate and then demanding they vote for them. Owen Jones can then write a 40 tweet thread about how thick, bigots let the Labour party down. The Labour Party seems incapable of learning from its mistakes. They, like you, persist in monstering people with different opinions and priorities. It's the very definition of insanity.

achillestoes · 27/06/2022 12:25

‘Who does this state of affairs suit? Jacob Ree Mogg? Or Keir Starmer and ordinary people?’

I don’t think JRM would support limitations on free speech or childhood transition. He’s an ultra-liberal Catholic, as far as that’s a thing. He’s also a privileged oddball, but that’s for another day!

It is coming from people who say they are on the left, but the ideas they are pushing are right wing, not left wing. IMHO. Obviously they are part of the "individual is everything, society means nothing" right, not the conservative, family values right.

You are using what is known as the “no true Scotsman” fallacy here, in basically saying that anyone on the left doing things that you dislike isn’t really on the left.

There is nothing right-wing about denying reality, claiming that sex is mutable, or that a man saying he is a woman really is one.

This is absolutely a left-wing phenomenon.

Like many of these debates, the argument seems to be around debating the man and not the statement.

FemmeNatal · 27/06/2022 10:56

What? This is absolutely coming from the left.

Who on the right do you see pushing this?

@achillestoes The mind boggles how you can be left wing for years but one issue and you sell your soul. Happy to vote for people who are no friend of women or anyone tbh unless you are one of their wealthy donors. So you are happy to turn a blind eye to corruption, deception, cronyism, pork barrel politics, absolutely inept
government which actually led to the biggest act of self harm the uk has ever committed ? Wow. Fwiw I despair of Starmer’s mealy mouthed platitudes re self ID but I do know he’s nowhere near as bad as that waste of space and his corrupt cabinet.

Starmer isn’t mealy mouthed. He believes this stuff. He lets his MPs who dissent be harassed and threatened and doubles down.
if you vote Labour that’s what you’re voting for. He will do everything the most extreme activists call for because he agrees with them.

achillestoes · 27/06/2022 12:04

And moreover, yes, I will turn a blind eye to Johnson’s self-interest and his habit of lying to cover his own arse, because I prefer it to Starmer’s inability to take a stand against reality denial and harm done to children. Speak to him. I’ll give my vote back to Labour when they stop pissing all over women and children.

‘But I also think that Boris actually believes in what he is saying here.’

I do as well. He’ll lose votes to the Lib Dems as well as get them from Labour.

OP posts:
Musomama1 · 27/06/2022 11:57

It's worrying because an alternative to Conservative looks more and more attractive and no leader on the left is saying what Boris is saying. Partygate and the failure to oust Bojo, the cost of living crisis and the crisis in A & E are making change look necessary. They've recently lost two by-elections.

I've no doubt Boris's comments are part of an attempt to lasoo the GC crowd - he'll know how popular these thoughts are with the voting public, he's certainly flailing at the moment & needs the public back on his side. But I also think that Boris actually believes in what he is saying here.

If what you said was true then the conservatives would not have increased the personal allowance, removed it from higher earners, limited pensions contributions, increased the minimum wage so much or introduce shared parental leave.

The caricatures that you have seem to bear no relation to reality.

OneOfThoseOldFashionedWomen · 27/06/2022 11:55

Assanctamonioysastheycome

The Labour Party want to frightening you out of your beliefs, persuading you, almost, to deny the evidence of your senses they want me to believe that a man with a fully working penis is a woman because he says he is, because he has pulled on a skirt and has long hair?

If they really believe this they are not fit for office. If they are willing to pretend to believe this they are not fit for office. How can they protect 51% of the population and work for them if they can not define them.

achillestoes · 27/06/2022 11:53

‘which actually led to the biggest act of self harm the uk has ever committed?’

Is this about Brexit? What boggles my mind is that you care more about being in the EU than you do about kids. I voted Remain. I’d vote Remain again. But I’m not throwing distressed 12 year olds under the bus so you can go to Spain without a visa and we can buy cheaper sauerkraut.

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 27/06/2022 11:47

Starmer being mealy mouthed is dangerous though as it fudges over his belief that female includes male, and if he believes that and brings in new laws once we lose rights they’re gone for a long time

I’m not convinced he won’t revert and go further if he wins the next election

We are inching forward slowly now thanks in part to many on this board (and I’m really grateful) but it can be lost very easily, and go backwards

achillestoes · 27/06/2022 11:45

Yeah, it’s just the bodily integrity of teenagers and their capacity to reproduce and their heart health and their cognitive development. Who gives a toss, eh?

‘Yes, he is saying these vote winning statements, but what he is doing about it while hes in power.’

Cass Review
Single sex spaces EHRC guidance
Review of transgender guidance in schools
Higher Education Freedom of Speech Bill
Let the Safe to Be Me conference enter long grass rather than bow to Stonewall
Did not reform GRA
Changed course on transgender conversion therapy

Yes, he is saying these vote winning statements, but what he is doing about it while hes in power. All the things people are angry about, he is allowing to happen.

Saying one thing and doing another, who would have thought it 🙄

FOJN · 27/06/2022 11:19

I think it would be incredibly naive to think that no-one on the right has surriptitiously pushed a TRA agenda in order to further divide the left.

Are the right also preventing the left uniting on material reality?

achillestoes · 27/06/2022 11:03

‘think it would be incredibly naive to think that no-one on the right has surriptitiously pushed a TRA agenda in order to further divide the left.’

I think the main propulsion behind right wing involvement in trans rights activism is financial. The money involved in persuading millions of people that they need to buy (or have the state buy) a lifetime’s supply of hormones, binders, ‘tuckers’, surgeries, t-shirts, flags and whatever else must be very tempting to the unscrupulous.
