Scotland - male wears female swimsuit

Saw this on Reddit and was surprised by the very sensible way it was handled by the pool, police and comments on Reddit. No hint of entitlement and just sensible safeguarding.

The whole thing is ridiculous. Why didn't he just wear shorts and a rash vest like many women wear to swim beacsue they also don't like the way their bodies look in female swimming costumes, which are pretty revealing.

Its Bs, he was getting a sexual thrill out of ot hence the election, like most men with this fetish. And he rightly got called out on exposing children to his fetishism, which is inappropriate.

RJnomore1 · 19/06/2022 12:08

The colour of the swimsuit might be relevant here too, if anyone has ever seen “why cycle shorts should always be black”.

People's genitals need to be covered at a swimming pool. That is how the pool should have handled it: "Are you aware that your penis is visible through that swimming costume? In future please ensure your genitals are adequately covered."

Then call the police if the reaction is anything other than mortified embarrassment.

This sounds sensible - warn him to change into something more suitable or leave, and only call the police if he reacts inappropriately.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 19/06/2022 12:01

We need to know if this was a Magritte-style swimsuit. Something with a Schrödinger-style (non) declarative statement about being non-binary. Expressed, of course, in plain enough English, perhaps with a diagram, so that every tiny child or other pool user would instantly, and without ambivalence, have understood this celebration of non-binary personhood that was taking place in the lane of a local swimming pool attached to a sports centre in Scotland.

However, even in the context of the above, I wonder why the Reddit 'concerned relative' is so quick to dismiss the content of the woman's complaint? Have they, perhaps, considered asking the relative in question to change into the swimsuit and have a quick stand under the shower to simulate the conditions in question?

Imissmoominmama · 19/06/2022 11:57

I don’t believe clothes need to be gendered, but there is a question of decency here. It sounds as though a women’s swimsuit did not effectively cover the person’s genitals, and may have made his penis look as though it was sticking out (in arousal).

Depending on how large their body was I imagine it would be quite hard to get a good fit in general. I have a tall friend who used to buy extra long swimwear before tankinis were a big thing.
Speedos are surprisingly think and have like a net inside to contain everything. Womens costumes don’t.
like someone else said. He could have worn a T-shirt or a rash vest.

But then this poor dysphoric person may not have had what was possibly their uncovered genitals spilling out of their swimsuit for all to witness.

Understand the predicament the swimmer was in but need to take into account that in public areas like a swimming pool where there could be children, they may hit safe guarding concerns.

they’re wearing male clothes to and from the centre but decide that today they’re going to wear a female one piece swimsuit when in the pool because they want to feel more comfortable than going bare chested.

If been bare chested was the problem than a rash vest or T-shirt (if allowed) would have been better here. Same issue if a trans man decided to wear just a pair of speedos & go bare chested, exposing their breasts.

And yes Speedo's might look revealing but they are designed to keep everything out is sight, which a female costume will not.

It is not unreasonable to expect everyone's bits and pieces are kept under wraps when children are present in a public facility. A man wearing a woman's swimming costume in front of children is a safe guarding issue.

Yes, instructive to reverse this. A female born non binary person wearing a Speedo would presumably not be accepted, either, for obvious reasons.

Anyway, anonymous second hand anecdotes are what they are.

Man wearing Speedos Vs man wearing bikini bottoms

Where was that second photo (with the man's testicles spilling out of the bottoms) taken? Surely, it wasn't in a public event.

respectmysex · 19/06/2022 11:15

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine perfectly illustrates the issue here, thank you.

Don't women wear women's swimsuits to cover their breasts? So what is in the breast area of a man wearing one? Rolled up socks?

If he is male he has no need to cover his non-exiatent breasts which suggests he is doing it for shits and giggles.

And that's not even before we start on the erection section.

WouldBeGood · 19/06/2022 11:13

Yep, wholly inappropriate and I’m not convinced by the explanation

Hoardasurass · 19/06/2022 11:12

I think that the swimming suite is a red herring. The complaint that was investigated and the relative was barred for was that he was indecently exposing (by warring a garment that didn't adequately cover) their semi erect penis in front of children!

cottagegardenflower · 19/06/2022 11:08

If the only issue was he didn't like showing his chest there are male constructed swimsuits and rash vests more appropriate. A man wearing a woman's swimsuit would look very sexualised and inappropriate. He should have kept his sexual confusion out of a public space where women and children could be offended. Far from his wish to cover his chest, it was more a sexually perverted statement imo

So normally it’s all “I don’t care what men wear as long as they’re not trying to be women, men can wear womens clothes if they want”.

until they do that, do nothing to act inappropriately and then get slung out of the swimming pool. There are some incredibly tight speedos out there which leave nothing to the imagination but it would have been fine if he had been wearing those because they’re intended for men. Even if it is nothing more than a tiny sliver of fabric across the hips

If the swimming costume showed the swimmers genitals, which it sounds like it did, then of course it was appropriately dealt with - indecent exposure is a thing. I assume if a swimmer had worn Speedo's which were far too small to contain everything and didn't cover a penis fully that too would be dealt with the same way.

beastlyslumber · 19/06/2022 11:05

I'm okay with men being policed for things like this. I wish this is what happened every time. Then maybe cross-dressers would come to accept that their hobby is for behind closed doors, and they shouldn't be involving random members of the public in their sexual behaviours.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 19/06/2022 11:03

General reminder that there will be a rich harvest gleaned from this thread.

In common with PPs, it will be interesting to read the (presumably) forthcoming civil action and accounts of Wi Spa: Scotland.

Eightiesfan · 19/06/2022 10:58

The wearing of a female swimsuit makes no sense in this situation. The person in question identifies as non-binary, so the only reason I can think that they wore a female costume is to get a reaction. They do not ID as man or a woman so they could have easily worn a rash vest with swim shorts and non-one would have batted an eyelid. So they worried about their chest, but thought having their male genitalia on show was fine? I’m not buying this for a single minute.

It is exactly the same as a bearded man entering a female space but claiming they are a woman as they are wearing eyeliner or heels. They are there for a reaction and to raise awareness of how the Trans community are being abused by the bigoted TERFS.

Really? You think accusing the swimmer of being a pervert and calling the police on them for wearing swimwear is appropriate and handled sensitively? How is it different from wearing a pair of speedos in terms of being able to see any genitalia?

Accusing the swimmer of being a pervert and calling the police because their genitalia were visible to all and sundry and because they had an erection walking around the changing area is an appropriate response.

I started reading the post and felt horrified that the man was basically called a pervert by the lifeguard as I have no issue with anyone wearing whatever they want provided public decency is maintained. However, reading further the real issue was apparent - his genitalia were visible, presumably because the swimsuit he was wearing was designed for a female body. The sensible thing for him to have done would have been to wear a pair of speedos under the female costume.

Walking around with an erection is also unacceptable, although he denied that.

I do think the lifeguard and manager could have handled it a bit better by focusing on the indecent exposure element rather than the swimsuit per se but I suspect they were embarrassed at having to have the discussion in the first place.

MightyMike · 19/06/2022 10:56

Difficult one - wear what you like for fashion or comfort. Don't try and gender clothes, they're just different style of cloth.
vs
You know an over sexually excited male when you see one. The police wouldn't easily go to investigate, unless the Management made a big fuss, with the lure of an easy arrest if there was good evidence, ie CCTV showing exactly how this person behaved.
Let's start listening to women and girls a bit more, especially as some men have a hard time telling their fantasy sex life from the real world (we're not all porn stars or props from a porn shoot). Also swimsuit wearing is a common crossdressing fantasy item.
But I am conflicted as if this person is properly covered and it was just his style choice, he should be left alone and free to wear what ever appropriate swimwear he likes.

The officer says that a woman has complained that her young children could see their gentials through the suit, and that she had alleged my relative was aroused while walking around the changing area. They strongly deny this

So the woman said this person was walking around with a boner through a swimming costume, and when confronted he said he wasn’t.

Who would I believe? 🤔
