Restaurant that helped JKR raise money for Ukraine harrassed and vandalised

The right side of history indeed. I hope the police catch these arseholes.

"The week I get harassed by evangelical TRA's, my restaurants get anonymous & generic bad reviews by trolls with similar pseudonyms.
All due to helping raise money for Ukraine with the lovely JK Rowling and Suzanne Moore.

You sure about that right side of history claim fellas?"

In the same week as the online accusations of being homophobe for sticking up for JK Rowling and Suzanne Moore, followed the fake bad reviews, now someone has smashed in the windows at portico and ransacked the place. Could obviously be a coincidence, but what a few days!

In the world of virtual reality, you can be whatever or whomever you choose. But in the real world, choosing to be something doesn’t make it so. The idea that the world is fundamentally malleable by our choices is to imagine a world in which human beings are at the centre and in control of everything, a world in which everything can be bent to our will.

From the pasta terf article linked above.

Well that will backfire - I am delighted to see it is in Kensington so we will be going there every time we go to the museums with the dcs.

Childrenofthestones · 08/06/2022 22:57

The restaurant owner is interviewed about it by the Triggernometry lads on their channel.
He comes across as lovely.

TheBiologyStupid · 08/06/2022 21:19

Thanks, Screaming - although the diversion to criticise veganism was somewhat unnecessary. (It's not all thoughtlessly unsustainable avocado toast and soya...!)

CuntAmongstThePigeons · 08/06/2022 20:36

Oooh thanks for this. I was just looking for something to watch and this is perfect!

Would definitely love to do a vipers restaurant visit to show our support. 🍷🍷🍷

The restaurant owner has been onTriggernometry:

Perhaps a group of us should get together and visit en masse?!

Il Portico looks like a nice restaurant. Kensington is quite far from where I live but perhaps I’ll make the trip.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 04/06/2022 20:39

Menu looks great and owner sounds thoroughly decent. Going to London in a few weeks, will try to book a table.

It's about time some of these TRA extremists were considered potential terrorists, the police got off their arses and unpainted their politically-motivated multi-coloured response cars, the Police & Crime Commissioners realised what's going on and did their jobs, and the politicians supposedly in charge got a fucking grip.

Very well said!

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/06/2022 20:13

They've got vitello tonnato, which is one of the most delicious foods in the world.

PonyPatter44 · 04/06/2022 19:53

I like the look of that Il Portico place. My best friend and I are heading to London quite soon, we might eat there.

@BootsAndRoots
“I'd be interested to know what your thoughts are on people who refuse to discuss the harassment and vandalism of businesses by people in the name of trans rights.”

That the harassment of business in the name of trans rights could include publishing non-stories with a tenuous link to a known target of TRA ire just to smear her?

FrancescaContini · 04/06/2022 10:28

Not the point of the thread but Il Portico is going on my list of restaurants to try in the future.

It interested me in the sense of why it was published. It seems like quite a minor story and made the connection to JK very prominently. Do you think the BBC would have covered a minor dispute like this if the landowner was anyone else?

Yes, I've read many stories of different celebrities and right of access over their land over the years.

But what really interests me would by your thoughts are on people who refuse to discuss the harassment and vandalism of businesses by people in the name of trans rights, and would rather discuss unrelated stories instead.

I live locally to that property and there has been an ongoing issue for access for years. Infrequent articles but pretty sure most of the papers have covered it previously. It does get brought up that she is JK but it predates her “cancellation”.

Did you?

whats its got to do with the restaurant being vandalised?

I didn’t read the whole thing because it looked to me like it had fuck all to do with anything frankly

TheBiologyStupid · 03/06/2022 19:41

Shocking - coincidence or not, I hope those responsible are brought to justice.
