Anti-trans spin from RMW

There is a difference between being supporting women’s rights and anti-trans.

In this article RMW is misrepresenting a whole raft of women who are fighting for women’s rights as being anti trans.

The thing is, other people's fragile feelings cannot be a reason to hand over female humans' words, rights, equality, access, safeguarding, or to go around pretending that things are other than they are. This distorted thinking cannot and should not be enabled. I am deeply compassionate towards someone who struggles with this, but the answer has to be that they cannot expect and depend on the rest of the world enabling them at all times regardless of the detriment. The world cannot be all about them. They must find ways to manage those feelings and cope with the idea that other people have needs and rights and beliefs that must be accommodated too.

Absolutely!

Instead of insisting that raped and abused women should "re-frame their trauma", they should be looking at ways of learning to cope with their personal discomfort in the real world without infringing on other people's needs.

Our personal issues are our own to cope with. Obviously many people need support - in which case the trans individuals should do what women do, and what most other people requiring the empathy of others with similar difficulties do - form their own groups.

The fact that they don't, even though SW and other "gender" organisations are awash with cash ("OH! What good could be dome with all of those millions etc ") tells us that this isn't about need - it's about validation.

Mumswatch - yes indeed they do.
That's why MN is so hated.

Quite a lot of sexually dimorphic species out there.

Mumsnet and Springwatch seems like natural companions, given that Springwatch is all about creating new generations across many species. :-)

"I hope you are not suggesting that campaign, lobby groups and activists should be denied their human rights to freedom of thought, belief, speech and association. "
Nope, not at all. I was answering the question "where does the fear come from". If they want to spread fear, that is of course their right to do so. Whether it's helpful or not is another question.

"I hope you are not suggesting that the media should not report on matters that have impact on social policy. "
Nope. But that reporting can be biased. It is important that individuals get their information from a wide range of sources, I think, to provide a balanced view.

"I hope you can provide evidence of any statistics that are inaccurate."
Probably. But I don't owe you homework.

I'm assuming that's a neat parody of the sort of distortions to which Plasmodesmata refers.

Where does this fear come from?
Certain sectors of the media. Campaign and lobby groups. Activists on Twitter. Inaccurate statistics.

All of those plus throw in no debate, a healthy dose of not reading anything they deem to be written by the wrong person. Only hanging round with people who patrot back to you the same insane phrases.

And suddenly nice little echo chamber.

"They hate us they hate us" they shout. Never stopping to listen to the tens of thousand of people calmly answering back in a soothing tone "no we don't, here have a cup of tea and a biscuit and let's talk about it"

Also, why would a third space hospital area for trans people be a 'ghetto'? Confused

That was the thing that stood out from the article for me (aside from the ding, ding, ding of a full house on my bingo card). Reference to a trans ghetto miles away - eh? Surely third spaces are a good idea, after all surely what is wanted is acceptance and the ability to live as they are? Unless the underlying desire is to unrelentingly put themselves front and centre, and shoehorn themselves into women’s spaces regardless of a perfectly good alternative, and regardless of how the women in those spaces feel. In which case, anyone so tone deaf to the sensitivities of others probably should be miles away from another human being.

I was recently chatting with a transwoman in a local pub. She started a discussion about JKR and I said I agree with her. She started crying and insisted that JKR and I don't want her to exist. We ended the chat with a hug but I was surprised at her fear.

And that’s what I really cannot get my head around: that any criticism of the situation, any suggestion that trans women are not women, any hint of being gender critical is an automatic “You hate trans people, you want us all erased and dead”. That’s quite a leap to start with and fails to understand the concept of nuance, but the absolute fear of physical harm that, as far as I can see, is relatively rare and certainly does not come from someone saying “You can’t change biological sex” is baffling. Where does this fear come from?

If anyone else responded like this, people would be talking about serious MH issues.

They would.

I'm surprised to see that interview when the case is still ongoing and RMW is involved.

RMW being appointed junior to IO was such a blatant insult to Allison.

Redshoeblueshoe · 01/06/2022 19:36

I think TRA's are the people who are doing damage to trans people. Like Mermaids - busy telling them that everyone hates them.

The transwoman was surprised I clocked her as a transwoman, even though I'd been drinking.

I am still astonished that she appeared to think I'd harm her. At the very most I'd have given her a Paddington hard stare. I still don't know if her tearful reaction was shock, genuine fear or manipulation.

Perhaps listening TRAs saying that women like me are actively harmful?

Anyhoo I'm off topic. Thanks for listening.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 01/06/2022 18:42

I can only say that it's a case of caveat lector for that piece. Readers would be well advised to consider both the platform and interviewee before deciding how much value to assign to the perspectives and guidance that are expressed within it.

OT: I sometimes wonder if Jonathan Swift would have enjoyed the intellectual side of all this enormously and engaged in various tirades that would result in a C21 version of A Tale of A Tub with each sibling now representing a reformation of material reality.

One of the perks of wearing the blue fleece of manliness (and not the blush pink coat and heels of femininity) is I get to waste my money however I damn well please. Without needing the approval of RMW or anyone else.

Just so rmw knows if rmw comes to see this thread.
I and many many others will put our hands in our pockets again for allison if it comes to needing an appeal and should she want to go through that and any other cases that we learn about.
That half million is a drop in the ocean to us all when it comes to our rights.
SW had much much more and could have done so much with that money, in my opinion they threw away the money and any goodwill, pretty much ruined a charity. That's on them.

Yes, agree Terfyfdactly 👍

But that conversation was important. No one died. No-one was harmed. It is the lack of conversation and sheer quantity of finger pointing and threats that has made this so awful.

RMW: There are so many better ways of advancing the position of women – think of all the good you could do with the £500,000 Bailey has raised for tribunal.

Think of all the good all the organisations who've paid money to Stonewall could have done with their fees, instead of paying for an organisation to police their policies and employees.

Yes, we could have set up a women's centre somewhere — and then TRAs could have threatened to picket it to get it shut down if they weren't allowed through the doors.

We could have set up a rape counselling resource for female victims of rape — and TRAs would have targeted it and demanded access.

Or we could have held a lesbian or women's music festival (female performers for female people) — and TRAs would have tried to get in and picketed it as they did MichFest.

Everything that women want to do to improve their lot — stand for women-only shortlists, compete in sport, set up businesses by women for women — are under attack by male-sexed people.
