“ “Little Women” author Louisa May Alcott was a transgender man”

I try really hard to be open minded to transgender thinking.

But reading things like this baffles me.

How can you retrospectively identify that someone who can’t speak for themselves was “a transgender man”.

When half the evidence presented for them being trans is that they didn’t conform to archetypical gendered behaviours, and that being a “tomboy” is held up as evidence of being trans.

How can we be at all sure that someone was trans and not simply rejecting the society’s expectations of how a woman should present and behave?

The trans movement is the most regressive ideology ever.

All historical women who made their mark on the world are gender non conforming by default because even 50+ years ago it went against societal norms to be trailblazing woman. It's the opposite of progressive to trans the dead and rewrite women's history in the process.

100% this, they like to tran successful non gender conforming women who can not longer object but ignore living non gender conforming women

Thebeastofsleep · 31/05/2022 16:36

Making the boxes smaller and more defined helps no-one.

What's next, men who fancy men are actually transwomen?

drwitch · 31/05/2022 16:29

Its also really against the spirit of the books. - Little Women and Eight Cousins/Rose in Bloom are all about learning to be women. - Jo has to restrain her masculinity and focus it on inner strength and Rose (heroine of Eight cousins) has to realise that other things matter apart from the size of her waist. They are not about celebrating non comformity OR about building a world without gendered expectations

In fact I have often thought that it is the existence of books like this where people "learn to be women" that accounts for the strangleout of gender ideology amongst elite women in the US

MrsAvocet · 31/05/2022 15:25

All this is just so ridiculously misogynistic isn't it? Basically any woman who managed to defy the restrictive gender norms of her time was really a man? Presumably because actual women aren't really capable of achieving anything? What a load of crap.

Pebble21uk · 31/05/2022 15:18

Ah, so this is where it's come from... I noticed Jake Graf had tweeted this last night and it was re-tweeted by Linda Riley.
Interesting comments below... it's amazing how with one piece of writing it seems to be taken as gospel by some. Transing the dead is becoming more widespread!

Waitwhat23 · 31/05/2022 15:16

I've also seen Joan of Arc and George Elliot being historically transed.

It's taking all the kick ass women who defied social expectations and who should be getting celebrated as female heroes/role models and saying 'oh, they defied gender stereotypes, they must have been men inside really!'

It's like Pratchett's Monsterous Regiment. Gender ideology is determined to completely misinterpret the reasons why the women in that book dressed as men.

Hbh17 · 31/05/2022 15:11

I was a tomboy - I had short hair, hated dresses, watched sport etc. Jo March was my heroine - in fact, I pretty much wanted to BE her.

I was - & still am - very happy to be female.

If you believe in trans ideology (that humans "change sex" and also sex is irrelevant; that everybody has a gender identity that is both innate but also based upon the gender stereotypes of the time & place in which they live; that provisions that were previously single sex should now be mixed sex but single gender; that medical notes, crime reporting and sentencing, data collection, should all use a person's gender ID, despite the fact there are apparently over 100 genders; that homosexuality is inherently transphobic) then this is a perfectly reasonable assertion.

If you believe that humans have personalities, sexual preferences and interests that should not be limited by their sex, that they can wear any clothes, fuck any adult human (with consent), do any job etc etc then yes, it's bollocks.

CompleteGinasaur · 31/05/2022 15:01

Find it a little bit contradictory/hypocritical that this school of thought (using both these terms in the loosest possible sense, obviously..) is absolutely painstaking in its attempts to retroactively trans every notable tomboy in history no longer able to indicate their own preferences, but somehow completely deaf to all those of us still around to speak who happily colour outside the lines of the blue/pink gender identity picture and are still quite proud to claim Woman as our defining category, thank you very much..

TulipsGarden · 31/05/2022 14:58

She wanted to be a man because she wanted the freedom men had. For fuck's sake.

Franca123 · 31/05/2022 14:52

The top of my head nearly blew off last night when I read on LinkedIn that some people think Julius Ceaser was a woman because he was supposedly penetrated by another man. Probably the most sexist and homophobic thing I can imagine reading. Just when you think you've heard the worst of it, they manage to find new depths. I'm 100 percent done with being polite about this stuff now. I'm going to call it out whenever I get half a chance.

nzborn · 31/05/2022 14:40

I was a Tom Boy had lots of male friends, didn't know I was Trans.

BootsAndRoots · 31/05/2022 14:28

In 10 years time when we realise (again) that people can be gender non-conforming and be happy to be their standard sex, these historical people will cease to be trans. Perhaps they will become the term that is yet to be invented?

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 31/05/2022 14:25

What does this even mean?

it was impossible to be transgender as a woman until very recently, the hormone treatments to achieve the simulacrum of masculinity didn’t exist. Men could have their genitals removed and become eunuchs, but they couldn’t grow man boobs, either, or have implants. They were castrated men, not fake women.

this just seems to be another example of men trying to abrogate any virtue or proficiency to their own sex. She was a good author who wrote some characters who did not conform to the stereotypes of the MTF brigade ( read up about frontier women if you want some real and more ‘extreme’ examples!).

what is that crackling noise? It’s the sound of straws being desperately clutched.

Boiledbeetle · 31/05/2022 14:25

@Helleofabore thank you! Although I suppose it should really be🍺you know what with me liking manly things!

I'm so glad that I went through my shitty childhood in the 70s and 80s rather than now. As bad as it was I have at least come out the other side understanding why at times I hated being a girl so much, and not just because of what happened, but the other shitty bits, that awkward stage where you didn't need a bra but hated being forced to wear anything close fitting, period pain, creepy older men, and so much more.

If it was now I would be sold on the idea that I could actually be a real living boy. I would see it as the answer to all my problems. It would have been the answer to none of them!

Oblomov22 · 31/05/2022 14:24

What? LMA was a man? No, I don't believe that. Really? Is it true? Is there evidence?

becausetrampslikeus · 31/05/2022 14:24

Surely you are an adult human female with 3 children in a gay relationship as you are clearly a transgender man

Stroopwaffels · 31/05/2022 14:21

I'm clearly transgender too. I spent my childhood with my hair cut short, wearing my older male cousins' cast off trackies. Climbing trees, riding bikes, building dens in the woods. Not doing "girly" things like colouring or ballet. I was regularly mistaken for a boy because of my haircut, clothing and choice of hobbies.

And yet, here I am, an adult human female in a heterosexual marriage, with three children.

MangyInseam · 31/05/2022 14:20

I do wonder if part of it is a very flat view of women in the past?

MangyInseam · 31/05/2022 14:19

There are a certain number of the people immersed in gender ideology who seem to conflate "in some way, no matter how small, gender non-conforming" with "trans".

Even when it was generally accepted by the people around them. They see it mainly as a language thing, I think. Mainly it seems to be young women who are really taken in by this, I think it's how they explain it to themselves so it seems to make sense.

KohlaParasaurus · 31/05/2022 14:14

LMA was a woman and achieved everything she achieved as a woman in an age when breaking out of the limitations placed on women required a lot of strength and determination. And she wrote women far better than "a man's soul" could have done. She shouldn't be devalued like this. Leave her alone.

GenderAtheist · 31/05/2022 14:12

ehb102 · 31/05/2022 14:06

eyeroll Any woman who has more personality than a doll is considered transgender.

True. Even my teenagers complain about this.

iklboo · 31/05/2022 14:11

Oooh I'm a transgender man then am I? One with a fully functional natal vagina? One that got pregnant naturally and had a vaginal birth? Until recently had periods?

I was a tomboy, still am. Have more male friends, love rugby and a pint. I have never wanted to be male. Ever.

Why the FUCK can't they just accept WOMEN aren't all into pink, pretty, sparkly, girly things and can be / are talented at their chosen role? Why do we have to be transgender men for that to be true?
