"Trans activists have hounded Nadhim Zahawi off a Russell Group campus, accusing him of “inciting hatred” by defining women as “adult human females”, The Telegraph can reveal.

The Education Secretary was met with dozens of student protesters chanting “Zahawi is a transphobe” and “Tory scum” while visiting the University of Warwick on Friday.

The Cabinet minister had to be ushered away from campus by security guards in dramatic scenes, as he was pursued by activists brandishing trans flags and placards."

This was not a protest by any definition.

This is no longer a rights movement in any way shape or form nor do these people do any good for trans people they actively harming the cause fir trans rights.

This is now a terrorist organisation under UK law and should be treated as such by the police and courts.

I was actually idly wondering that myself. I wonder if a cabinet minister has the clout to get them labelled as such.

Their behaviour is already winning for us, I’ve been battling with DD 19 for a while she’s autistic and every single friend and I do mean every are either non binary or trans so it’s been hard to show her that they’ve been hijacked by an idiology

But then a couple of weeks ago one let slip that they were one of the masked TRA’s who surrounded the statue. DD. Already had a fairly low opinion of this particular male and his behaviour which she labelled almost incel like and finally the wall came down

apparently although she feels very loyal to the autistic girl friends she is starting to see the true picture, she even knew about the cotton ceiling and autogynophelia, I have never felt so relieved and glad I kept talking to her

So glad to hear this. What a relief for you.

Grin MagnoilaTaint I initially read that as a parody press release and then I read the top bit again and realised it WAS REAL.

How fucking embarrassing for them.

Was he hounded out?

It says he came for two hours did two meetings then left.

Activists made noise and pursued him but that is not the same as hounding him out.

Do not give these people any hype.

There were about 30 of them.

There are 27,278 students at Warwick.

So about one in a thousand.

I cant imagine any Tory minister would not draw at least some protests speaking at a university right now, 30 seems a pretty small demonstration for the education secretary given the state of university teaching during the last few years of covid, I agree with zanahoria, dont give them the hype

I just read that and thought excellent job! Are they really that thick they think that sort of behaviour towards a government minister is going to help their cause? Unbelievable

I think we know the answer to that. Grin

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 30/05/2022 21:08

I can't get that excited, demonstrating at government ministers is just what students do. I wish they were doing it in a better cause though.

There's no comparison with Kathleen Stock. Ministers have security, they expect to be demonstrated at. Academics don't, we expect to be allowed to investigate freely and freely present what we find.

'STATEMENT REGARDING EXTERNAL SPEAKER NADHIM ZAHAWI 🏳️‍⚧️
TW: Transphobia, SA, abuse, homelessness
It has been brought to our attention over the past few weeks that the Warwick Conservative Association is running an external speaker event, inviting Nadhim Zahawi, the Conservative Secretary of State for Education, to campus on Friday the 27th of May.
Towards the beginning of this academic year Nadhim Zahawi said the following regarding former Sussex University Professor Kathleen Stock, a notorious transphobe that is a signatory to the WDI (Women's Declaration International formerly known as the WHRC) "Declaration on Women's Sex-Based Rights", that published the transphobic book "Material Girls", that is a trustee of the LGB Alliance:
“It was unacceptable that a scholar of her calibre should be hounded out of university. For me that was just a terrible stain on the history of that great university.”
The WDI declaration argues for the legal elimination of transgender people. Quite frankly, Kathleen Stock's behaviour as well as the university's reaction is the only real "stain" on Sussex University concerning this incident.
Zahawi plays a significant role in institutional transphobia as education secretary for the UK, working alongside the EHRC (Equality and Human Rights Commission) to produce guidelines for schools and teachers on how they should treat trans students.
Concerning Zahawi's view on trans students, he said the following:
"Parents have to be front and centre of this. And that is my message to the front line is to say: you have to involve parents in this. You have a duty to safeguard those children and parents are very much part of that."
Zahawi trivialises the detrimental impact of outing LGBTQUIA+ youth to their parents; he is putting them at risk of abuse and homelessness.
According to the Albert Kennedy Trust (AKT) LGBTQ+ Youth Homelessness Report (2021):
-One in 6 (16%) who were happy to answer were forced to do sexual acts against their will by family members before becoming homeless
-Almost two thirds (61%) who were happy to answer felt frightened or threatened by their family members before they became homeless
-Half (50%) who were happy to answer said they feared expressing their LGBTQ+ identity to family members would lead to them being evicted
Zahawi has also made very concerning comments regarding corporal punishment and has made other transphobic remarks such as using the common transphobic dog-whistle "adult human female".
This external speaker event clearly violates SU by-laws on Equality and Diversity, however, we cannot fault the SU for its inaction regarding our complaint about this event. Nadhim Zahawi being a government minister clearly puts them in a complex position if they were to cancel the external speaker event. However the notion that Zahawi does not incite hatred is ludicrous at best.
On Friday some Warwick Pride Exec plan to attend this external speaker event, attending with trans flags and the intention to ask Zahawi questions concerning the rights of trans people in the UK. Despite it being exam season, we would greatly appreciate it if you could join us. The tickets are free to all university students and can be easily accessed from the SU website.

“There is strong evidence that minorities experience greater levels of stress when their rights are being debated” - Dr Adam Jowett, the chair of the British Psychological Society’s Sexualities Section.
Given that transphobia is omnipresent in society, it is imperative for the mental well-being of trans students that the university make itself clear that it is indeed supportive of transgender individuals, and that reactionary harmful transphobic rhetoric will not go unopposed.
Trans rights are simply not up for debate, they are non-negotiable.
Warwick Pride, the LGBTQUIA+ Association
Warwick Pride does not condone any violent behaviour, especially relating to this event, and any acts of violence at this event are discouraged and not to be affiliated with us.'

ScrollingLeaves · 30/05/2022 21:04

One good thing is that this will show even people who are confused just how ludicrous things have become.

Lifeinthelastlane · 30/05/2022 21:04

Tory minister in trouble for speaking the truth. Well that's a shock!

Musomama1 · 30/05/2022 21:02

Witchhunting, but showing the ugly side of TRA campaigning beautifully to the public. This is what #nodebate is all about, shutdowns and bullying.

Also, not exactly a great advertisement for University and futher education these days if it's incubating this.

WalkerWalking · 30/05/2022 20:57

The batshittery is so much easier to see irl than on twitter. I'm grateful that they've had the opportunity to bring their cause to a wider audience.

Theluggage15 · 30/05/2022 20:56

sashagabadon · 30/05/2022 20:54

I thought they were shouting Forest gump! But after a second listen it was Tory Scum!
To be fair it doesn’t look that intimidating but it’s rude and ungracious to a visiting minister and that’s enough

TheBiologyStupid · 30/05/2022 20:52

They certainly know how to make friends and influence people...!

AuxArmesCitoyens · 30/05/2022 20:49

It was Warwick that had the rape chat scandal a couple of years back www.bbc.com/news/uk-48366835 , I bet they are in full damage control mode right now.

Artichokeleaves · 30/05/2022 20:44

Good, that ought to make for an interesting cabinet meeting. Some first hand experience of the intolerant batshittery ought to get them thinking.

ChristinaXYZ · 30/05/2022 20:42

Here's hoping that something actually happens after this - some kind of sanction for Warwick for failing the free speech remit unless some students are disciplined. Until there are sanctions universities will do very little. Places like Reading seem to be the rare exception.

Lovely stuff. Keep it up, mates.

This week's MVPs for the GC cause.

dropthevipers · 30/05/2022 20:34

More evidence (as if it were needed) just how fucking demented these nutters are. They remind me of the BNP in using the same thuggish tactics until some of the smarter leadership cottoned onto the fact that that made them look like, er, thugs. Fortunately this lot really are fucking stupid.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 30/05/2022 20:34

Do these transactivists genuinely think this helps their cause? Confused

BenCooperisaGod · 30/05/2022 20:30

Yep. We will continue to invite dialogue and fight fair and in the open through the courts. They don masks and hide behind #nodebate. This will backfire wonderfully i predict.
