Firstly. Yes I name change a lot. I have lurked around for some time.....but I don't know anyone in real life who either knows the issues or cares. How do I find you? Google reveals nothing. Having gone back to work recently issues are becoming more real.....not in a good way. I am beds/ herts border.

I met two lovely ladies in a museum cafe last week! I overhead the words "Ricky Gervais - so funny - so true!" so when I went to get some cutlery I said I agreed with every word, and was glad to meet them. One of them asked me who these men thought they were, trying to steal our lives. Women must stick together!

toastfairy · 01/06/2022 18:51

"Do a little gentle nudging of those around you and you may be surprised!" yup I agree

How to find GC women in real life

  1. find a woman
  2. build sufficient trust
  3. establish degree of common ground
  4. outline an area of your concern

See what they say...

The whole thing is a conversation about boundaries etiquette and respect. I respect that a man may have a sincere belief that he is a woman. I respect that to the point that I may well choose to use female pronouns about him (when referring to a specific person) in some circumstances, those circumstances do extend to a rape trial. Whilst I respect his sincere belief that does not mean I share it, nor do I agree he has a right to bully women in terms of what they're allowed to say, or feel, and certainly absolutely does not extend to his having the right to bully homosexual women into sleeping with him. These are not at all the niche and outrageous beliefs that TRA / MRA would have us believe.

Everyone I've brought these issues up with have agreed with me and are gender critical (although don't know a name for it as don't follow social media etc). Family, friends and colleagues. I was nervous the first time and quickly realised it really is the minority that believe TWAW. Was refreshing. I live in the North of Scotland.

catbirddogchild · 01/06/2022 18:06

I had a brave lecturer last year who casually asked the whole room what we thought of chest feeding. Well now that was interesting she got 100% eye rolling , utter rubbish type reaction from everyone (all female course) Turned out we were all a little more gender critical than the be kind sort. BTW we are all liberal minded nice open people just we go with biology and yep women's rights are sort of our job. none of us would have brought it up or said anything negative without that piece of bait! Do a little gentle nudging of those around you and you may be surprised!

A few of us started meeting who all knew each other via local politics. We put up a twitter handle - some women got in touch. Others via the WRN & word of mouth.
We now have a WhatsApp for sharing things & a regular meet-up. We vet before adding people to the What’s App as it means we all see each other’s phone numbers.

i put quite a few labels around, tied to railings, with ribbons, and a few women saw them & got in touch.

We had a stall at a women’s day event - it went very well, though a lot of people were flat out incredulous about rapists in prison. I had some good flyers from Keep Prisons Single Sex.

We’re planning to have a “talk to total strangers” thing in our local city centre some time - probably around KPSS as that doesn’t age.

Getting more confident.

I've messaged you as I think I'm nearby @Kreature69.

Do keep nagging the WRN, @Phobiaphobic and @Signalbox . Contact the main twitter account, and they should direct you to your local group.

Thanks oldwomanwhoruns I sent another DM and now I've got a zoom screening call tonight so it was worth sending another message :)

I mention something in the news and gauge reaction but more and more I’m finding other women are mentioning relevant stories or issues first. I’ve noticed we all carefully feel our way for a while. I recently started a new job and the woman I took over from talked about a few issues including the pushback from lots of women when work had proposed unisex toilets to the problems she’d had trying to get HR to deal with a trans colleague that was making very inappropriate sexualised comments to her, behaving inappropriately in the office and wearing revealing clothing (sounded like HR were sympathetic but very very nervous of dealing with the situation).

Wauden · 30/05/2022 16:34

I have only mentioned my concerns to one friend, regarding politicians, and my friend is slowly getting it.

My parents would have got it very early on; they were highly logical and were feminists, but they are no longer here. They would have been active.

JanieAllen · 30/05/2022 14:56

there is a scottish network access via twitter @ Scot_Feminists

DefrostAndServe · 30/05/2022 13:58

I must be lucky because apart from my DC who are young adults and very woke (although I'm even seeing an inkling of realisation in them lately), I've never met a woman who isn't GC. I'm in the midlands and we're pretty down to earth here.

Kreature69 · 30/05/2022 13:48

@BernsBellRowling

I too am still on probation in a new job! .something has come up that I would love to challenge but I feel unable to whilst in this position.

I am going to try and sound others out...whilst I work for a large organisation my dept. is very small....

The Women's Rights Network. Find us on Twitter or their website. There are groups of us all over the UK 😊
www.womensrights.network/

I've just joined this amazing group, can't wait to meet them

BernsBellRowling · 30/05/2022 12:42

I might be near you, OP, depending which side of the border you’re on. I mainly lurk here and certainly don’t have any connections to local women’s rights groups as working and parenting take up all my time. But I try to shed truth and clarity about women’s rights issues in real life conversations wherever I can. I have recently started a new job with an organisation that has been fully Stonewalled, which is depressing, but I need to pass my probation before challenging any of the egregiously misleading shit that gets peddled on these issues internally 🙄Feel free to PM if you want.

SoManyQuestionsHere · 30/05/2022 00:36

What if you're not in the UK?

Professional expat here. 3rd country in a decade at present.

It's hard enough to make friends as it is in this situation, never mind like minded ones when you're already the perpetual "resident stranger".

Any pointers welcome.

FemaleAndLearning · 30/05/2022 00:20

I met other women by attending Standing for Women speakers corner event. Kelly Jay Keen does these outside of London too. I've been to Nottingham and Manchester but can't make Bristol this month. A friend has kept touch with women she met at a Woman's Place meeting.

It is really difficult to meet on line because you need personal introductions and a lot of vetting to confirm your identity.

I start little conversations with virtually everyone I know. It takes time though. You can't have a full on discussion just drop some well sourced nuggets. There is quite a bit in the news lately to pass comment on.

Don't loose hope. The suffragettes had no technology and had limited freedoms but they still won their battle. We will win this battle too. The hearts and minds of the public will reach a tipping point and we can all do our bit however small.

littlbrowndog · 29/05/2022 22:51

Everyone I know doesn’t believe TWAW.

we are just ordinary people.

Not entirely everyone, but I expect at least 3/4 of the populace have the same views as most women on this board.

It's not really exceptional to believe that there are two sexes and you can't change sex.

And that's really all there is to it.

IcakethereforeIam · 29/05/2022 22:58

I feel like this thread should have narration by David Attenborough.

My sister is GC, other women don't seem to know wtf I'm talking about. No-one has told me to die in a grease fire yet. I think my youngest thinks that, but kept it to themselves so far.

Actually I think it's 12 pm tomorrow!

It’s shifted to 1pm now because of lighter evenings.

We know that TRAs & other misogynists keep a very close eye on these threads & would love to muscle in on our groups, so Reformers is a great place to start if you don’t know anyone.

Triotriotrio · 29/05/2022 22:46

Every single person I've spoken to about it in real life has turned out to be GC. It's surprising. Even all the men, and I work in circles you'd expect to be TRA
