Stella Creasy has doubled down on her TWAW position in today's Telegraph www.telegraph.co.uk/women/life/stella-creasy-jk-rowling-wrong-woman-can-have-penis/

Is she saying 'electricians use 'male' and 'female' to designate connectors and therefore women no longer exist as a distinct category'?

#ToddlerLogic

And yet electricians always call the plug "male", and the socket "female". Funny that.

The fact that not one (count them-zero) of the Labour front bench (or anyone else come to that) has hit the airwaves to posit even the slightest demur against Creasy's grade "A" tin foil hattery tells me that Labour is as fucked as it ever was over this whole issue.

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2022/05/29/anneliese-dodds-stella-creasy-wrong-woman-cant-have-penis/

Stella Creasy was wrong to assert that a woman can have a penis, a Labour minister has said, as the party continues to flounder with the issue of defining womanhood.

Anneliese Dodds, the Labour Party chairman, was asked on Sunday if she agreed with Stella Creasy, her fellow Labour MP, that a woman can be someone who was born with a penis.

Ms Dodds, who is also shadow women and equalities secretary, said: “No, I don’t agree with her. Biological females obviously aren't.

I didn't expect Dodds to say this. She knows, clearly.

It's the Telegraph. They'll prioritise their own agenda in what they put highest up in the interview, and theyll be keen to sabotage a really impressive Labour woman (which she still is to me). But she should know that.

I will admit to a reluctant admiration of her saying something so bloody stupid in public which she must know will sound ridiculous, and doubling down with it. She's not a coward, anyway. And her story about threatened gang rape at university is horrible. She's taken action for female MPs and women in NI. The people calling her 'performative' for taking her baby into the House of Commons are despicable. I just wish she would damn well connect the dots.

Sabotage her by allowing her to speak freely about her life and beliefs?

MatureMam · 29/05/2022 19:29

We may be allowed to talk about maternity, menstruation and menopause but only if we use euphemistic phrases such as 'birthing parent' or 'people who bleed' for fear of causing offence. I truly worry that young women are going to grow up ashamed to talk about their bodies again.

Artichokeleaves · 29/05/2022 19:23

"Whoever you met with Stella, it wasn't us" 😂

HatefulHaberdashery · 29/05/2022 19:23

I think Stella's partner or her friends needs to take her phone off her. She's just making a gigantic tit of herself in Twitterverse.

Stella quote tweets Labour women's declaration as they had challenged Stella's claim that she had met with them.

Stella: I met with you in 2018
LWD: we didn't launch until November 2019.

Just a shower thought and I don't know it it needs its own thread, but has anyone else noticed that its OK to talk about maternity leave, periods, and the menopause. But not single sex provisions like prisons, hospitals and DV shelters?

Stella's words this weekend have peaked a very close friend of mine.
One who lives in her constituency, has campaigned with her, and has provided her with various research material over the years.

While aware of GC views from myself, they'd never really took much notice till they read the article then looked up Stella's Twitter feed.

They couldn't believe the prison issue and they asked me was it actually true? I was happy to furnish them with a reading list of media and research articles, websites and links to various tribunals for them to make their own mind up.

They spent last night messaging me every hour or so even more cross at what they were reading.

Thanks Stella! You've done us all a massive favour here.

See?! It's fab! All we need is people like Stella to keep saying the quiet bits out loud.

SunLIGHT!!!

I wonder what actually happened between the ascension of Tony Blair in 1997 to the GRA in 2004.

That's some paradigm shift in government and the civil service. What were the actual mechanisms, the levers?

I know the PR was pretty much taken care of by the Hayley Cropper story on Corrie: a mild mannered character played by a biological woman, who attracted a kind and lovely mild-mannered boyfriend.

But what of the politics behind the scenes to get this through rather than gay marriage?

I suppose Alistair Campbell and Peter Mandelsen would know.

As far as I understand it, New Labour almost entirely purged the civil service when they came to power. Loads of people were made redundant, and new people brought in who didn't fully understand the way things worked, nor the implications of certain policy positions.

They lost so much experience with that strategy done because they thought the civil service was "Tory" and would stand in their way that they then had to bring some people back as 'consultants' to get the work done.

But it enabled to do certain things, like expand PFI practice into the public sector, without the civil service shutting it down because it would ultimately cripple the state, which is exactly what it has done. It's notable that the people who had significant reservations about the GRA in the HOL were former politicians that had worked at a high level within government. They understood the need to think about the domino effect.

Dodds dithers a lot, says one sensible statement then another two which are TRA -like. Doddery might sum it up.

I don't think it's dithering per se. I think her waffling was because if she'd come out and said what she thinks she'd have been outside of shadow cabinet position.

Starmer is trying to thread the needle by saying that the GRA makes some men 'women' but avoiding answering exactly what that means.

I think Dodds was genuinely upset when she was ridiculed for her legalistic answer on women's hour.

Maybe it's just me, but either have the courage of your convictions or don't be in the shadow cabinet position taking the flak for Keir.

Marsha de Cordova fell on her sword because she didn't believe TWAW, so why can't Doddery?

MP's have one of the safest jobs in the nation (until it comes to the next election, and even then, it's all about winning hearts and minds - nobody seems to care about policy, as everyone is so tribal), so what do the female MP's who've stayed silent and watch Rosie Duffield be relentlessly bullied and hounded for something they all know to be true, gain from being silently complicit with gender ideology nonsense?

i live in Stella's constituency and many are starting to really dislike her now. She didn't respond to many of the request re info for refugees or a meeting prior to the votes, she was too firmly arguing with a bus company as she'd been asked to collapse her pram or disembark, or arguing about the lack of lift at the station due to it being hard for a double pram (she later picked up on teh wheelchair aspect AFTER it was pointed out. (weirdly enough haven't seen her argue about the lack of toilets for people with disabilities at the station which has been going on for months since they were closed).

She didn't pick up on the fact that many women don't get maternity leave whilst keeping their job and that this isn't something that just affects MPs... then she suddenly partnered with PBS and suddenly seems to be the voice of all women and maternity leave, but yet still only talks about MPs for the changes in legislation.

She's always been this self absorbed and disingenuous, in a particularly middle class way, and I'm really glad that other women on the Left are starting to read the smallprint on this me, me, me chancer.

What she was classifying as "Maternity leave" during her 2nd pregnancy, wasn't maternity leave. Stella was always going to get her 80K salary per annum, and have the ability to return to her job, irrespective of if she never saw another constituent for the next year, post baby. So she was lying about that.

Having been a contractor, with no paid maternity leave, I’d rather my taxes fund the 20K a year Asda checkout lady who can’t WFH and won't get full pay Mat leave, than the 80K per annum MP, with office staff & a work crèche.

What do women like Stella and Penny , and the queen of the crew, Noakes , want ? I have been wondering this for ages, it seems bizarre to be acting so clearly against their own interests as women, to constantly denigrate and belittle and now actually deny that womanhood exists in any defining and therefore , exclusive sense.

i think they want to be the only women in the room. When women first started to achieve positions of power and influence, it was noticeable that they often did not want to promote or mentor other women. I think this is a similar phenomenon; they want to be the only women in the room ( because they know in their hearts that the women with penises are not really going to rival them ).

of course, they are making a big mistake. Because the women with penises want their jobs , their privileges, their very identities. They are arguing themselves out of existence.

No different from Thatcher.
"Rather, she was a classic example of a certain kind of conservative woman who believed that all women should pull themselves up just as she had done, conveniently overlooking that not all women are blessed with the privileges that had been available to her, such as a wealthy and supportive husband and domestic help."

That could have been written about Creasy rather than Thatcher.

For the vast majority of my time in work I was the only woman in the room. I'll admit when more started coming in I did not originally feel happy about it.

It had taken hard work, long hours, putting up with soooooooo much shit to get to where i was. And I don't think I particularly wanted to share the goodwill and change in opinion of some guys i had worked with if I'm honest.

Of course I gave my head a wobble and reminded myself that I was putting up with all this shit for exactly this purpose. To make life easier for the ones who came after me.

Now I still wasnt going to particularly help the ones who were the same age and level of me. After all we are all going for the same jobs and no one is gong to help their direct competition.

But the younger ones, I bloody helped them.

This lot like Stella are stuck in the "I don't want to share" phase and are too bloody selfish to get past it.

Stella refuses to believe that other women are impacted when they become pregnant regarding maternity rights - she believes every woman gets adequate pay, an entire year off with no threats of job loss and like-for-like cover whenever they take maternity leave.

Very out of touch and will not listen when women are explaining their own circumstances and horror stories.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 29/05/2022 15:36

Dodds chose to attend an all- female college at Oxford, although it had been possible for women to attend previously single sex male colleges since 1976. So she knew what a woman was then.

Artichokeleaves · 29/05/2022 15:34

The removal of language has always been a key part of suppressing a population and colonising it.

The repression of Scotland for example where Gaelic was banned, so were bagpipes and tartan and any other expression of Scots identity.

Welsh was banned in Wales, children were beaten in school for using the forbidden language which was a symbol of resistance to a better and more civilised, progressive world being inflicted.

The forcible removal of children from Native American nations and others, with the aim of eliminating the language of home and family to be replaced with the approved language.

We have the edifying sight of governments running around apologising for and undoing all this damage while at the same time participating in causing it themselves in the new group to be suppressed.

Stella Creasy studied at the last Cambridge college to admit women (in 1988). The answer to sex-based discrimination is not to eliminate sex but to eliminate discrimination.

This ^^

Boiledbeetle · 29/05/2022 15:23

Signalbox · 29/05/2022 09:05

Can anyone explain this? If Stella has ruled out woman and female to refer to the sex class which typically has the capacity to gestate then what words does she use to distinguish the biology of the two sexes?

I think the whole point is to get rid of the language that enables women to talk about ourselves in terms of our sex. They don’t want us to be able to discuss this. It’s also why there is a push to demonise people for using “male” or “male bodied” to refer to TW when discussing men competing in female sporting events.

I feel like they thought they could calm us down and placate us by allowing us to put cis in front of woman, before they moved into the next stage of removing the trans and cis labels a few years down the track.

They didn't think we would be so bleeding annoyed about it. They certainly didn't think we'd outright reject their idea.

And when we did, they, like most misogynist people do, got really really annoyed and thought "fuck it. it would have been nice if they'd rolled over and let us do what we want and go where we want, but now the gloves are off. We will do it without their blessing, without their consent. sod them and sod giving them their own label. We will take it all"

Now doesn't that feel very familiar to a lot of us.
