I think he said he would employ irony. So - told up front - irony alert.

Basilisk - Dinosaur old fashioned woman & happy with that.

He’s had me in stitches this morning, refreshingly funny.

brookstar · 28/05/2022 13:09

Where does he get off, as a man, calling me an old fashioned woman and a fucking dinosaur?

You have completely missed the point. The dinosaur comment was bloody genius.

Me and DH have been repeating that section back to each other all week. RG absolutely nailed it and made the point wonderfully.

Whooshaagh · 28/05/2022 12:55

I think Ricky Gervais should incorporate @GoodJanetBadJanet into his next show.
She’s comedy gold- a bit like Margot in The Good Life.

latteagain · 28/05/2022 11:30

I agree with Ricky, Louis has apologised and people need to stop being snowflakes and move on, if you can't do that then maybe his comedy is too challenging for you.

Well you and I simply aren’t going to agree I’m afraid. I can see why people get away with such things though when an apology is enough for everyone to be deemed a ‘snowflake’ if they don’t want to support an aggressive man who preys on young women who work for him.

latteagain · 28/05/2022 11:30

Kanaloa · 28/05/2022 10:38

There’s no ‘apologising’ for a pattern of sexual assault. ‘Oh I’m sorry I was caught repeatedly and aggressively masturbating at young female interns. I don’t want to lose out on work so I won’t do it again!’

Not for me thanks. He’d only be apologetic because he was caught and it’s affected him. There’s plenty of funny comedians who don’t think it’s acceptable to violate women and don’t do it. So I’d rather enjoy them.

@GoodJanetBadJanet Still don't find a bloke wittering on about calling women dinosaurs funny though.

Wait until you hear about the politicians who approach legislation with the notion that human females who believe in single sex spaces and safeguarding protections are entitled dinosaurs. Runs right through to policies in public bodies; including schools, policing and hospitals. I don't know whether this is a result of credulous officials, lobbying encouraging misogyny under another guise, or a combination of both. Now that is seriously unfunny.

Cailleach1 · 28/05/2022 10:48

GoodJanetBadJanet · 27/05/2022 23:46

“Oh, women!” he starts. “Not all women, I mean the old-fashioned ones. The old-fashioned women, the ones with wombs. Those fucking dinosaurs. I love the new women. They’re great, aren’t they? The new ones we’ve been seeing lately. The ones with beards and cocks. They’re as good as gold, I love them. And now the old-fashioned ones say, ‘Oh, they want to use our toilets.’ ‘Why shouldn’t they use your toilets?’ ‘For ladies!’ ‘They are ladies — look at their pronouns! What about this person isn’t a lady?’ ‘Well, his penis.’ ‘Her penis, you fucking bigot!’ ‘What if he rapes me?’ ‘What if she rapes you, you fucking TERF whore?'”

See, how is that funny?
I get we all have a different sense of humour, but still.
Where does he get off, as a man, calling me an old fashioned woman and a fucking dinosaur?
Smacks a bit of trying to jump on a bandwagon to get some cheap laughs.
But people will lap it all up and still say he's a legend as he managed to slag off trans women too Confused Hmm

Well. Remember the 'why can't a woman be more like a man. Well, men would say that. And now 'voila'!

The women as 'dinosaurs' was from something David Lammy said, and I infer it as women hoarding' their/our rights. And, trying to smear those women as being 'on the right'. He dressed it as “there are some dinosaurs on the right” and also that “those dinosaurs exist in our own party” who want to “hoard rights”. That was to those who don't seem to have adopted this new ideology of anyone being a woman. Those not buying into the belief that it being simply a matter of identifying as such. Naughty, naughty. if you acknowledge reality (bearing in mind this can be wrt child safeguarding also), you're 'right wing'.

Maybe, you're being ironic.

He's right about cats though. I have often said that I would worry if mine were much bigger. That is not to say they aren't the most wonderful (and much maligned) little beasties.

sygone

i watched the original and i watched what you posted

i still did not hear it the same way….I absolutely understand that you heard it differently to me and at no stage am i telling you that you are wrong

but as i say, that not the way i heard it….

Sygone · 28/05/2022 10:18

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 28/05/2022 10:05

Ricky says he's cancelled, but it's not enough (for the woke mob) to apologise and move on

like i said I didn’t hear it like that…i heard (paraphrasing)

RG…id rather watch louis masterbate, he’s cancelled you can’t talk about him

pause

even if you apologise you get cancelled…kevin hart made homophobic tweets and apologised but he still got cancelled

(i would agree it was clumsily done)

It's in the image I posted on the previous page.

RG…I'd rather watch Louis masturbate, can't mention him any more, he's cancelled, not enough to apologise and move on

Skinterior · 28/05/2022 10:06

I don't think apologies count for much unless improved behaviour follows? Surely?

Has Louis CK spent the last year bitching about how he was caught out or has he behaved himself?

What works for eight year olds should still hold water when you're an adult? No?

Otherwise why do we let people out of prison? Or employ them after they've shoplifted? I guess it depends if you fundamentally think grown ups can change.

And as for ‘he apologised, isn’t that enough?’ Well no, it isn’t? Apologising because you’ve been caught is no apology at all and anyone who cares about women would appreciate that.

Kanaloa · 28/05/2022 09:49

Sygone · 28/05/2022 08:12

Good on Ricky for defending another brilliant comedian cancelled by the woke mob, you've just reminded me to hunt out his latest special.

Thanks.

That ‘brilliant comedian’ sexually assaults young female interns. Is that what you call woke? Not wanting a man in a position of power to sexually intimidate and assault you? How sad.

Sygone · 28/05/2022 09:47

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 28/05/2022 09:29

In Supernature Ricky says that he was cancelled and he's apologised but that's not enough for the woke mob

im pretty positive that was a segue into talking about kevin hart

he mentioned louis ck and the fact he was masturbating but i didnt read it as louis apologised…he lead into kevin hart apologising and being cancelled as well

he did say that you couldn’t talk about Louis anymore as he had been cancelled

And i really think he had ‘a lot to say about Louis’ is a complete exaggeration

as far as I remember its just the once (I could obviously be wrong about that)

It was fantastic to have these absurdities laid wide open with no punches pulled. Go Ricky!

Sygone · 28/05/2022 09:13

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 28/05/2022 09:06

um - Louis CK wasn’t ‘cancelled by the woke mob’. He admitted to sexual misconduct after his tendency to get his dick out and masturbate in front of his female colleagues came to light.

In Supernature Ricky says that he was cancelled and he's apologised but that's not enough for the woke mob.

BraveBananaBadge · 28/05/2022 09:10

IMHO I don't think RG is necessarily coming out as someone who is wholeheartedly in agreement with one side or another. He's shining a light on some of the more ridiculous arguments. But in another clip he talks about how he'll take one side or another in political debates to find the funniest jokes.

This is true and it makes me wonder. In their recent specials, Gervais and Chapelle know they have to take extra pains to 1) set out their stall, explain what jokes are and how they'll be telling them and 2) later break character to reiterate that of course they are not anti trans, human rights etc.

Yet those wanting to find offence will only accept one part of the act - the bit they they didn't like - as reflective of the performer's thoughts in real life.

(This also extends to JKR's measured caveats about supporting trans rights. They will not believe that, although they attribute the worst intentions to her thoughts on women's rights.)

Why is that, I don't wonder?
