Why the hate?

One thing I really don’t get about mumsnet is all the trans- hate could anyone really explain why there’s so much hate really. I’d just like to add really that there needs to be a separation from misogyny and transphobia when mumsnet mums talk about trans people they’re both issues but trans people haven’t started misogyny so I don’t know why they’re blamed for it all the time.

OP posts:

@maddy68 in lieu of the OP, who sadly seems to have done a drive by plop, could you describe the toxicity that you find upsetting? What sort of posts do you object to that fall within the talk guidelines?

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 25/05/2022 15:49

Oh I love these "MN is so horribly transphobic and you're all nasty mummies for saying awful things" threads. They're always such a breath of fresh air and utterly insightful...

Not.

LaBellina · 25/05/2022 15:48

Unless you see wanting to preserve single sex spaces to protect our and our children’s safety, privacy and dignity as ‘hate’, I don’t see any hate here.

ItsAnOvaryAction · 25/05/2022 15:45

Hi @Aqublu could you please give us an example of transphobia that you have seen on this board? It would be really helpful if you could tell us as much as possible otherwise it is impossible to respond. I am quite surprised as there are strict rules on this board (pinned) and anything transphobic should be reported and will be deleted (and indeed has in the past). We don’t tolerate hatred of any group.

Live and let live. Posters on this feminism board are feminists and therefore centre females in their feminism. I can’t speak for them, but certainly my intention is to protect the rights of women and girls, and I am naturally suspicious when these rights are eroded, often by trans rights activists (note: not all trans people or indeed not necessarily trans people at all) and instead of being able to discuss women’s concerns or fear responses (perhaps because of previous experiences of violence and abuse), women are shouted down, much in the same way as their abusers have previously. It just rubs women the wrong way and puts our hackles up.

This is a place to discuss things openly, so I hope that you feel welcomed to do the same. Could
you please share what you have read here that is transphobic? Please also report those posts as I hope that any of us would too.

I agree. I find the toxicity so upsetting

OP I'm happy that you are concerned about bigotry. I do hope you report any such posts to Mumsnet so they can delete them and give the poster a warning/suspension/ban depending on the number of times they've offended.

I am sure, as you care enough to ask it here, that you are also asking your question on a forum that has a fruit rhyming with "sheewee" in its title? I would be interested to hear how the replies you receive there compare with those here. Especially if you're planning on screenshotting them to post elsewhere. I

I'd be really interested in the OP's responses to some of these excellent points @Aqublu hello?

trans people haven’t started misogyny

No, that's true. But some groups of trans activists are perpetuating it by refusing to listen to what women are trying to tell them about safe spaces, language and child protection issues. And the reality of the female biological life. I have to have my uterus scraped out once or twice a year. It's unpleasant and undignified and is something that I didn't 'identify' into: it's because I was born a biological female and my ageing hormones and body have gone a bit mad. Give me the dignity of at least being referred to as a 'woman'. I'm sick of going onto FB groups for women with similar conditions and seeing people being lectured for starting posts with 'Hello ladies' when they simply want advice or reassurance from other adult females on difficult and sometimes very serious medical conditions.

FictionalCharacter · 25/05/2022 15:18

I hope you’ll come back to this thread OP, to give people the examples they’ve asked for of all this horrid transphobia. We can’t report them unless you show us.

They are usually deleted for being for being silly.

I read that in the voice of the mum from Life of Brian.

I typed it in the very same voice!

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 25/05/2022 15:15

You could sing that to Ride of the Valkyrie with a bit of editing.

RoseLunarPink · 25/05/2022 15:14

OP can you see how not wanting to agree with an ideology/belief that there's no evidence for is being twisted and wrongly called "transphobia"? The reason for this is that gender ideologists (NOT "trans people") don't have logical arguments or evidence for what they are trying to make people think and accept in the name of their ideology. They cannot debate or argue on a rational basis. So they make accusations of "transphobia" to try to shut down reasonable objections, concerns, even just questions.

It's like an abusive partner when you say why haven't they done the dishes like they said they would, or why did they text another woman, and they go "oh so you hate me, you're saying I'm a bastard, why do you hate me so much" and play the victim.

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/05/2022 15:10

I've seen Taylor live BTW. Bloody awesome.

The dancers in silver suits do some REALLY cool moves, fyi.

I like Taylor Swift. I watched a very interesting Netflix documentary about her.
Recommended.

Also if you want to see what "so much hate" looks like, have you seen how gender ideologists speak about women and the threats, including rape and death threats, they make towards feminists? It's far far worse and more hateful than anything I have ever seen anyone say about a trans person on MN.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 25/05/2022 14:58

I have seen plenty of hate here. Comes from people like OP. Popping onto MN to tell us what they think of us. Never listening, rarely reading, never engaging.

They are usually deleted for being for being silly.

RoseLunarPink · 25/05/2022 14:58

"Trans hate" and "transphobia" is what gender ideology calls not wanting to have women's rights and children's safety destroyed by beliefs that are not based in reality.

I don't hate any trans person for being trans. That would be transphobia.

I do have a problem with being expected to believe and pretend I go along with nonsense, and women being expected to put up with males in their safe spaces just because they "identify as women". A male cannot be female or vice versa, and that is not transphobia, it's simply a fact - a fact that many trans people themselves understand. If that fact changed, and there was clear scientific evidence to show it (not pseudoscience, actual peer-reviewed science that showed people could literally change sex) I would happily change my mind.

Likewise I object to children being told they are trans and must be the opposite sex just because they don't conform to gender stereotypes that feminists have been fighting against for decades. And then being given harmful, untested and irreversible treatments they often come to regret.

I am objecting to a false, unevidenced and harmful ideology. Not to trans people. There are many trans people who agree with this stance too.

However, there are people who do actually hate trans people for the sake of it and want to persecute and harm them. Actual bigots. Oddly enough the gender ideologists never seem to make that much of a fuss about them and instead just go for women who want to discuss women's and children's rights and safety.

Again?

And why is the grammar always terrible?

GromblesofGrimbledon · 25/05/2022 14:54

I have so much hate in my heart that I need somewhere to spew my bile. I come to Mumsnet for a daily dose of trans-bashing.

Soothes the soul.

AndAsIfByMagic · 25/05/2022 14:53

Haven't seen any trans hate. Why are you pretending it exists?

Very odd behaviour.

GoldenPineapple88 · 25/05/2022 14:52

I've never seen any hate here.

It's impossible to change your biological sex, women's rights to safe spaces are being eroded and children are being groomed into a dangerous 'trend'. All these things are true, and need discussing.

But that doesn't mean that any of us hate trans people. I generally treat people as I would expect to be treated myself. I'll use someone's preferred pronouns if it makes them feel better, but that doesn't mean I'm not gender critical. Don't confuse hate with reality.
