Hmm. Isn't this one of those things that never happens? That poor child.

FunnyTalks · 19/05/2022 10:03

This is deeply disturbing. The poor, poor kid.

2 fucking years is all they got?

The gender stuff is so relevant. Firstly, because the form of mainstream gender ideology that is endorsed by schools, charities, and major organisations across the UK has it as completely standard that a child would discuss gender identity with an unknown adult and not tell their parents. Children are told that they might become suicidal if other people don't affirm their gender identity. "Find your real, glitter rainbow family online".

Secondly, this article demonstrates that this mainstream trans ideology has permeated all corners of society. If you are a male with social skills difficulties and criminal, possibly paedophilic intent, you are aware that by claiming to be a woman you can bend authorities around you, disrupt police and reporting and potentially receive a much lighter sentence, in a women's jail. Hell, there are respected charities online campaigning for people like you to be released from jail, or for the end to stigmatising so called "minor attraction".

Re. the Ipso guidelines, I thought one of the reasons (obviously not the only one) for reporting was to alert possible previous victims. Maybe I'm mistaken in this but, if I'm not, then previous identities will be relevant.

mrshoho · 19/05/2022 09:42

What in the name of hell is this muddled news report? So many really important aspects that must be addressed and I bloody hope they will be.

The fact that two Males abducted a 12 year old child and received such a pitiful sentence.

The obvious online grooming. These sites should be investigated and shut down.

What's to be done about this type of reporting? I don't know what to call it? Is it that the writer's hands are tied or do our laws allow us to report the truth in plain English? Two men abducted a child.

DyingForACuppa · 19/05/2022 09:21

The sex of the child is not disclosed.

It's pretty clear that at the time of the incident the perpetrator was not using a female name/identity. I.e. stating their name as David Jones, and the direct quote - Jones told police “there’s another gentleman involved as well”.

The fact that they are now using Ava Jones and female pronouns makes the whole thing more difficult to decipher.

axolotlfloof · 19/05/2022 09:20

How terrifying for the child and their family.
Why hasn't this been on national news?
I think the gender identity issues are entirely relevant and the article is very unclear.

nauticant · 19/05/2022 09:17

Because of IPSO A580Hojas:

www.ipso.co.uk/what-we-do/member-publishers/guidance-for-journalists-and-editors/transgender-guidance/

Does the article include unnecessary information, such as irrelevant references to previous identities

MagnoliaTaint · 19/05/2022 09:16

Hugely disturbing.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/05/2022 09:15

It reminds me of that ridiculous article which had an sex criminal MTF on the run described as a "woman who may be disguised as a man" by the police.

A580Hojas · 19/05/2022 09:11

Why aren't they allowed to report "David Jones who now identifies as Ava Jones"? Just why not?

Franca123 · 19/05/2022 08:59

I thought the child was a girl? I thought most of the time the child was referred to as they but once I thought referred to as she? I also didn't get that Ava was a woman. I just thought wasn't it unusual for a man to be called Ava. There was only one mention late on of identity issues. I think I need to go back to school to understand modern English! Maybe a second cup of coffee will help.

SolasAnla · 19/05/2022 08:52

zanahoria · 18/05/2022 23:40

But it mentions "another gentleman"

I just get confused and feel like I am being lied to

Presumably that would be a quote from one of arresting officer. Something like "When I located the child, they were in the tent with the defendent seated there, I was informed that the other gentleman was to be found in the car ...... "

Police rang (whos phone, was it the childs?) during the drive and the child screamed but Jones put a hand over their (the child's) mouth and told gave officers that her the name was David Jones and that she was claimed to be camping in Ireland. Detectives tracked Jones' phone to Fferm Cedris Farm Campsite in Abergynolwyn, North Wales

I have some suspicions that a word count was more important than constructing a clear reporting narrative. (Or that the child was a boy and confusion is to lead the reader to think otherwise?)

Poor child to be lured by adults and betrayed by someone believed to be a friend then kidnapped. I hope that the family get the help needed to support the child and that the child can put what happened into a "good" context and grows to create a great life.

Franca123 · 19/05/2022 08:51

That article is so confusing. When they were saying They or Their or She etc..... I didn't know who was being referred to. Was it deliberate to use plurals or is that just modern English? I really couldn't have told you exactly what went on there.

Live4weekend · 19/05/2022 08:42

2 years - wtf. That girl will not even be an adult before they are back out again.

And why refer to perpetrator as a she? Surely not gendering would be far better in this case?

I can see a picture. I can tell that it's a male. Not everyone can. It's wrong to write the story as if its a female who's perpetrated this crime.

TopKnotch · 19/05/2022 08:41

This is barely readable due to the mangling of language and pronouns.

I have a 12 year old and this doesn't bear thinking about. It is terrifying. That poor child.

Did no one see what happened outside the station?

Two years seems so lenient for such a premeditated abduction with clear grooming and advice to desist prior.

And which prison does this person get to be in...

ChopinBoard · 19/05/2022 08:24

Two years for online grooming and child abduction?! That seems very brief!

Greatoutdoors · 19/05/2022 08:21

That said, I’d have reported that Ava Jones - previously known as David Jones but who went by the name Ava in court, or something. It’s a minefield

Greatoutdoors · 19/05/2022 08:19

The problem is that the courts and police use the defendant’s chosen name, and the reporter isn’t allowed to change what’s been said in court or they lose their absolute privilege.
I think that article does a decent job of making the situation regarding the defendant’s sex and gender ID.
Horrific story though. Poor girl.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/05/2022 08:16

"Their early conversations mostly revolved around anime - a Japanese animation - and they also discussed gender identity, the court heard"

This is my surprised face.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/05/2022 08:16

was totally confused reading that article: When they used the word ‘she’ I had no idea who was being referenced. I had to read it several times. I presume David Jones is the abductor’s real name. What terrible journalism.

I thought the same. MEN is awful for this though.

Rightsraptor · 19/05/2022 08:06

Dreadful. So 'Ava' got 2 years - to be served where?

Very tricky to read as the child was 'they' & 'them' (may well be to conceal their sex for safety and not for NB purposes). And Jones was 'she'. But I noticed Jones misgendered Jones's self with 'there's another gentleman involved' - 'another' alerting us to the fact that there were 2 men, not one man and one woman. As to 'gentleman' - I hardly think that's the right word for a kidnapper.

Whatwouldscullydo · 19/05/2022 07:51

Please tell me that poor child will/has not been made to refer to their abductor as " she"

bloodyunicorns · 19/05/2022 07:46

Ava? 🙄

334bu · 19/05/2022 07:05

Another " women's " crime! At least tge newspaper had photos front and centre.

Norma27 · 19/05/2022 06:30
