'GC is a slur"

SaraNera · 12/05/2022 23:01

GC is a slur, we need to abandon it and call ourselves something that doesn't come off as critical and negative. I was thinking something like sex based rights SBR or pro womens rights PWR (PrO WomEs Rights = power = PoWeR).
Only issue is Maya getting GC specifically protected, so can it even be changed as GC has become tainted and not seen as progressive.
Something nice catchy and fresh.

WHAT IS GC!!

Tritewelshlady · 13/05/2022 03:38

SaraNera · 13/05/2022 02:26

Exactly, GC is just associated with transphobia and everything vile. Need a rebranding so i can say I'm for women's rights without raised eyebrow reaction and awkward silence. GC slur is used to silence us.

You could say that you are NB instead. Your DD will see that a label is just a label then and doesn’t change anything about the person.

Maybe ask her if you should change your name to something more anime related instead?

Why would you be trying to explain to her that her friends might be rapists?
People who label themselves trans are not rapists. Some men who have committed violent sexual crimes have used the trans umbrella to get themselves out of time served in a male prison.

Why can’t you explain that to her? Then explain biology to her.

Meant to write "don't offer rebuttals".

DontLikeCrumpets · 13/05/2022 03:07

@SaraNera "How do i create a better image? Explaining women and men need single sex spaces while in a house with a male sitting next to me giving me the side eye and a teen sulking "leave them alone" like it goes in one ear and out the other."

Sit down with each seperately and say you want to understand their position and do so by just asking neutral questions.Don't offer rebuttals, just repeat what they say so they know you understand them. Ask questions like where they first heard about it.Who do they know that talk about this and what do they say.

That's a road i don't want to go down, getting a hostile reaction from just touching on the subject hurt my feelings. We won't see eye to eye on this and I'm afraid of being labelled negatively, she has non binary classmates, so it feels like a personal attack on her from her experience, Karen doesn't reflect her bubble world view of what trans ideology is.

You already are being labelled negatively by not buying into the TWAW mantra. She needs to explain how male rapists in female prisons is OK. Good luck with that.

IcakethereforeIam · 13/05/2022 00:15

I'm sorry, it must be hard for you. My two don't agree with me either, they both have trans or nb friends. It must be worse for the parents of those kids. Their dad sounds like your dh. But my kids know where I stand and I think that's important.
It's not the label though.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 13/05/2022 00:10

Let's not get distracted by chasing around trying to find a mutually agreeable term. Your dd isn't doing that.
It's like the word woman. It is what it is. If that's a problem for the people that don't do reality, we can't fix that for them.

monsterpup · 12/05/2022 23:54

My point is your daughter disagrees with your ideology, not because of the name but because of the contents. If you changed the name your daughter would still disagree with your ideology and as such changing the name wouldn't achieve anything. I get that you're upset you and your child don't see eye to eye on this but changing the name to something else won't have any bearing on that.

Official terms change over time when they are used as slurs e.g. the R word. GC is not a slur, transphobe is not a slur, they're terms used to describe ideologies

SaraNera · 12/05/2022 23:49

monsterpup · 12/05/2022 23:43

How is it the same thing? It seems very different to me

GC is the ideology.

Ask her to explain how the likes of Karen White get a free pass according to her ideas?

“Rational people” would work for me. But GC is alright, I guess.

SaraNera · 12/05/2022 23:43

monsterpup · 12/05/2022 23:38

This suggests your dd disagrees with your ideology rather than it just being her perception of GC based off the name, which is not a slur

There really isn't much point getting on the never ending treadmill of introducing new names for "x" because some people have negative views about the old one.

15, feels like half the school is non binary. DH is non confrontational and remains silent unless it's a topic of interest to him.

GC is simple and straightforward and not a wanky acronym.

arethereanyleftatall · 12/05/2022 23:28

I have no problems being called gender critical. I am. I do think gender identity is nonsense, I do think it's damaging to kids to tell them they're in the wrong body if they don't conform to gender stereotypes.

Back to you. How old is your dd? I'm sorry that your dh was a knob here.
