'GC is a slur"

SaraNera · 12/05/2022 23:01

GC is a slur, we need to abandon it and call ourselves something that doesn't come off as critical and negative. I was thinking something like sex based rights SBR or pro womens rights PWR (PrO WomEs Rights = power = PoWeR).
Only issue is Maya getting GC specifically protected, so can it even be changed as GC has become tainted and not seen as progressive.
Something nice catchy and fresh.

On reflection, "feminist" on its own is enough. If anyone chooses to identify as a feminist wanting/permitting transwomen to access women's single-sex spaces etc. they are welcome to label themselves as such, preferably also justifying how their position doesn't impact women's existing rights.

MistressBoleyn · 15/05/2022 12:39

And why didn't you order pizza for yourself op?
Because if DH holds the finances and won't provide food for you that's borderline abusive.

Dutch1e · 15/05/2022 12:34

At this point "atheist" could almost stand in for Gender Critical.

I'll stick with GC though, it fits. And I'll also keep TERF, which I wasn't a year ago and have become thanks to TRAs ruining it for women.

MistressBoleyn · 15/05/2022 12:23

Wow your husband is a bully. That's your real issue here.
He needs to learn that you are a team and to put on a united front for DD. Any disagreement needs to be agreed upon approach I'm privacy. Sounds like he is being a bigger child than your actual child.
As for the he can't cook lark, I wouldn't be cooking until he learns. Not being able to cook is just an excuse used by men who don't want to do it. Can he read and watch a YouTube video on how to turn his oven on? Then he can cook.
Your husband sounds sexist op, no wonder he aligns with this batshit.

IcakethereforeIam · 15/05/2022 11:47

My sprog had a go at me because I'd referred to their nb friend as she. Unfortunately,, while I was wondering where in our tiny kitchen she was hiding, and I could really use that space for a food processor, the moment passed. Should the matter arise again I'd say 'no-one dictates to me how I speak in my own house'.
Sorry, the whole nb backfired, at least you can now say you feel qualified as to how ridiculous it all is.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 15/05/2022 11:01

I've stopped doing everything now, they had pizza because he can't cook, i had some nice rich tea on the sofa and left crumbs everywhere

Doesn't sound like it's backfiring to me, cook something delish for yourself and enjoy it while it lasts! Grin

Bit overwhelmed so i may blabber on, DD friend is nb, used to come over before lockdown, DD and friend would be over after school, i would use normal language "would you girls like to get something to eat or drink" DD says i can't say that, if i asked how she is or will she come over next week, that I'm using the wrong words, that her friend is "enbi" (her spelling). Had a few slip ups like that, the friend literally remains the same so easy mistake to make. The enbi friend doesn't come over anymore, lockdown was a good excuse to stop coming over entirely.

So i said i was non binary gnc, now I'm parent or (hubbys name) wife/partner, (my mother's name) child, no more shouting MAAAAM or mum which i miss, DH is having a field day over this, they are both taking the piss and im not actually non binary so its really getting to me. DD and DH both teaming up against me. I've stopped doing everything now, they had pizza because he can't cook, i had some nice rich tea on the sofa and left crumbs everywhere, it's where DH has been sleeping since this unfolded. Trying to sort this mess out and return to normal. Anyways i don't recommend anyone else try this stunt, it may backfire horribly.

Did you really do this OP?

I would have thought that suggesting to change your name to something more ‘anime’ would have indicated that I was not being serious.

SaraNera · 14/05/2022 19:58

Tritewelshlady · 13/05/2022 03:38

You could say that you are NB instead. Your DD will see that a label is just a label then and doesn’t change anything about the person.

Maybe ask her if you should change your name to something more anime related instead?

declared a "slur" because people began using it perojatively and dismissively on account of their distaste for transphobia

Interesting to see the threats of violent death and sexual assault which are often used alongside the slur terf described as using it 'pejoratively and dismissively' rather than say, violently and aggressively. The term is laden with violence, given its use and is often accompanied by violent images, captions and gun/knife threats.

There are thousands of images on www.terfisaslur.com.

This adult male's attitude would concern me more than the views of an impressionable adolescent.

Me and hubby get on fine, it's just this one subject that is driving a wedge between us. There was some drama after i took another posters advice, it didn't turn out great, but that's another story for another day.

In your daughter's opinion, your beliefs are transphobic. That is her opinion, calling yourself something else isn't going to change that.

Please take your negativity elsewhere, if you have nothing positive to add then don't say anything.

Anything that people who don't believe in gender ideology say gets called a dog whistle or used as an insult by TRAs.
"Woman = adult human female"
"Biological sex"
"Gender critical"
"Legal fiction"
"Human sex is dimorphic"
"Sex is immutable "
TRAs have moaned about all of these truths.
Orwellian Newspeak in action

Predictably, this thread is being used for screenshots on Twitter as an example of 'call a Nazi by another name' nonsense.

There seems to also be a push by MRA's and incels, because of discussion during the Bailey case, to insist against all evidence that terf is not a slur. Despite it obviously being one - obvious example being the horrific threats detailed on www.terfisaslur.com

I've used GC in the past but now just use feminist. As another poster wisely said on another thread - if you centre males in your feminism, then you are not a feminist. If you centre males to the detriment of females, then you are an anti feminist.

The term was actually coined by self-described 'trans-exclusionary radical feminists', and it followed the same trajectory that 'GC' is following now – declared a "slur" because people began using it perojatively and dismissively on account of their distaste for transphobia.

'What it stands for' = against women not being raped in prisons by convicted male sex offenders?

'Stands for' = standing behind women who have been raped being able to request that they are examined by a female examiner?

'Stands for' = being against lesbians being coerced into sex they don't want?

Etc etc.

Honestly, I'm OK with that.

If you are fighting to make sure that vulnerable women are imprisoned with male sex offenders, if you are fighting to force women to be examined by a male against their wishes and if you are fighting to erode women's sexual bodily autonomy, then you really, really aren't on the side of good, as you appear to think you are. * *

None of these things require calling trans women "men", and yet you still insist on that point.

Waitwhat23 · 14/05/2022 17:30

Typo in first paragraph - should obviously read ' against women being raped in prisons by convicted male sex offenders'.

Maybe, just maybe, its what GC stands for which is the issue and not the label... Just throwing it out there

What worked for me is that I stopped engaging. I never ever commented on the non binary status or theJkRowling is cancelled or any of it. I carried on thinking my thoughts, reading what I liked and politely rebuffing any attempts at dialogue. This worked very well, and now I might venture a specific question - Puberty blockers oh yes, but will they miss orgasms?, or mild disagreement- cancelled , what did she do?, oh dear, well I still like her. But I won’t engage with the rest of it and I won’t have people accusing me of hate crime in my own home. I absolutely will not be called a terf or transphobic. I won’t be cis anything, and I will did do everything possible to encourage healthy debate on other subjects. I think my girl has quietly changed her position, she keeps wanting to talk about feminism. 3 years ago she was full on trans.

Gender is simply the stereotypes imposed on us, the restrictive box that a patriarchal society tries to force us into.
So I like gender critical. It does what it says on the tin.

PonyPatter44 · 14/05/2022 07:24

What does "live as a man" even mean? People should dress however they want, train for whatever job they want and live how they want (within the law).

Sex isn't relevant in most of society - the pants you wear, the job you do, the food you eat, the people you socialise with. Be as gender-non-conforming as you like in those spaces. But some spaces are sex-segregated for very good reasons - and trans people should be using the spaces that match their sex, not their gender.

SeldomHere · 14/05/2022 01:37

TheBiologyStupid · 14/05/2022 01:34

@SeldomHere Being gender critical and believing in biological reality is not the same as: "But you don't want trans people to exist. Expecting a trans woman to live as a "man" is expecting her to not be trans. Wanting everyone to not be trans is wanting trans people to not exist."

Transwomen are welcome to dress and behave as they want, providing that they respect women's legally protected sex-based rights, such as the right to single-sex services and facilities and to safety and fairness in sport, etc. Because funnily enough, women have a right to exist, too!

Are trans women expected to live as "men"?

Also, Posie Parker would disagree.
