Very interesting article from 2019. The author was actually fired from her unrelated job for writing it.

I work with teens and it is so glaringly obvious that non-binary is basically ‘I’m different and special’.

it’s like getting a tattoo or piercing used to be. I’m a rebel, me!

I think we should all ignore the attempted detail and focus on the article.

And what's interesting is that M.K. Fain worked in the tech industry. She was fired for writing her personal opinion about something that had nothing to do with her job.

She worked as a writer. She was blocked from medium (so not a job, per se but the same effect) and all her existing articles removed.

Given that medium is supposed to be an open platform supporting writers to discuss any topic they want it is particularly ridiculous they can't even cope with someone expressing views they don't like on another platform.

People with DSDs are either male or female. Using them to prop up arguments about there being more than two sexes is muddled thinking. They are a tiny minority and have nothing to do with girls identifying as non binary

I suggest you look at Dr Emma Hilton twitter.com/fondofbeetles/status/1213112141152174080?s=21&t=GmN-0CUVA0g4wF3E7ZZMiw @maddy68

But how to explain where babies come from?

I saw that on a friend's FB page, I think she'd posted it in support of Lia Thomas / trans inclusion in women's sport. She didn't have a response to someone who pointed out the clear advantages gained by a male having gone through puberty, though.

To clarify my previous comment: DSDs (which used to be called intersex conditions) are quite rare, so even if some identify as nonbinary because of having a DSD, the vast majority don't fall into that category.

As an aside, I fell down the rabbit's hole Googling stuff on gender and sex. No, sex is not a spectrum. Yes, secondary sexual characteristics can vary between individuals of the same sex (some men are more bearded than others etc.), but that doesn't make sex a spectrum, and neither does the existence of individuals with DSD, almost all of whom are either male or female.

I wonder what percentage of individuals would not align with just the one same sex on all those different measures? My guess is that it is a very small number. In other words, most everyone is either male or female by all those different definitions.

But it would certainly be interesting to test all people and to see if identifying as, say, nonbinary actually means that the person in some ways might fall into some 'in-between' biological category?

Though I must admit that I have read lots of articles on this topic and have never before come across the nonbinary concept in the biological setting. Individuals with DSDs are still male or female and so on.

It is very on point.

And what's interesting is that M.K. Fain worked in the tech industry. She was fired for writing her personal opinion about something that had nothing to do with her job, on a blog that had nothing to do with her job. I find that astonishing.

This is one example in the list of women who have lost their jobs for gender critical beliefs expressed in their private lives.

And yes, nonbinary really IS like that, as far as I can tell, for many. Some identifying that way are just confused teenagers who want to rebel, some are just plain narcissists, some are suffering from various mental disorders, and some men want to escape the current anger at white men etc.

But most enbies, I believe, are female people who think that they can escape sexism and misogyny by transitioning and who also hold rigid views about sex roles. I dislike the identity as its existence forces others into those binary boxes. If we take it seriously, that is, so I can't.
