Transwoman claims Tampax have offered sponsorship

Dylan, currently on 'Day 47 of being a girl' claims Tampax have been in touch.

www.instagram.com/p/CbiQWjUpXXd/

Why?

'Dylan was using a public restroom when a fellow woman called out if she had a tampon, Dylan shyly replying ‘no’.
Afterwards, she decided to buy some to keep in the house and in her purse for all her girlfriends, ending the video with “women support women.” It seemed that Tampax were quite interested in working with Dylan afterwards. What an incredible outcome!'

The 'incredible outcome' phrase was a quote from the article, Robinni.

I get that, I just feel it sets a different sort of tone for the thread.

@DomesticatedZombie
To me it looks like they are in some competition to prove that men make better women than women do. They cut out all the icky and inconvenient stuff, like the truth about periods, child care, poor pay and working conditions etc and concentrate on the friperies such as dresses, hairdos and ooh, I feel so feminine. I love the argument that it is wrong to reduce womanhood to a discussion about genitals but its perfectly okay to reduce it to I like pink and in Dylans case, enjoy dressing like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, so I am obviously a woman.

@Mandodari

”I think womanhood should not be linked to periods or at least periods shouldn't be a prominent part of womanhood."

Periods have defined my adult life - huge amounts of time unwell, endless operations. Impacts everything from what job I do, from what clothes I wear. I have a bin bag and towel in the car in case of complete disaster! I’m restricted in what I can do because my energy levels can be very low and I have to prioritise. This is life for the 10% of women who have endometriosis.

For those with normal periods there are still painful cramps, PMS etc etc and I would put money on it that most organise their sex life and holidays around their periods. Then there’s all the worry about either not wanting to become pregnant or very much wanting to become pregnant and the fixation on periods there. Then the menopause and all that brings.

Periods are a huge part of what it is to be a woman, as much as pregnancy, breastfeeding, female sexuality….

All the fluff around “female clothing” “female mannerisms” “female ideas” is just that FLUFF. A woman can have a short haircut, she can wear a suit and flat shoes, she can have an astrophysicist who collects classic cars and body builds in her spare time. She can drink beer, fart and burp. She can swear. She can decide to not embrace being a homemaker and having children. She doesn’t have to shave her body hair.

She is still woman because what is left? - her biology. She has female anatomy and menstruates.

Regarding your second post (quoted above)… I am with you; many of the trans people I see - particularly the transwomen - are like Disneyland versions of women, it isn’t authentic. The ones I tend to get on with the best are just happy regular people, living their lives - not trying to outdo others and prove a point.

I believe we are seeing a renewed rise of patriarchy through this - a man who perceives themselves as female should be afforded more consideration than someone who is female.

Those who are trans have not had the lived experience of being a female their whole life and it’s impossible to replicate. Just as it would be for a white person to suddenly declare they are black; the life experience isn’t there and no matter how hard you try to be something you are not it doesn’t make it 100% real.

Also, this board's rules can take a bit of getting used to. Some words/phrases/sentiments are likely to be reported and often deleted. I've been here a while, you get to learn how to phrase things. It's still a useful space.

I said it before and I will say it again. I would rather stick toilet paper in my pants than ask anyone for a tampon

Hell, I would rather free bleed

Robinni · 04/05/2022 10:21

So let me get this straight…. A previous thread where OP was confused about why a transwoman would be asked to do a Sanpro ad is deleted. But the one where the OP ends with the quote “what an incredible outcome” is kept?

The deletion of the first thread made me feel like women weren’t allowed space to discuss important matters such as this. I am in no way a “hater” of trans. However I have severe endometriosis so period products are close to my heart! 🥴

What I said on the other thread - Tampax are rubbish - uncomfortable and out of touch with women. Lillets are amazing!

I have been asked by other women for Sanpro, generally friends or women in bars/clubs/airports late at night when no shops are open. I’ve asked a friend a few times too. Women supporting women as Dylan says…

I actually liked the videos Dylan did and think they are quite a positive person and appear to be happier for their life choice. I also saw that they thought Tampax approaching them was quite mad.

Agree I would like Tampax to clarify on this. Periods are awful and anything to do with them shouldn’t be treated in a gimmicky fashion to jump on the bandwagon.

Women matter.

Which is wild, and makes me feel like women aren't worth anything. They don't care about us.

This. The contempt for women's feelings is never not shocking.

Fatsdominosdomino · 03/05/2022 20:58

Binglebong · 03/05/2022 20:54

I would guess Tampax won't clarify because they will get shit for it either way- if they say they didn't then they will be accused of bullying a poor defenceless transwomen and if they say they did they will be held up as a joke. They see just hoping it goes away and don't want to extend the news cycle by saying anything.

You are probably right. So that means they can ignore the women who actually buy their product, just to avoid being seen as mean to people who do not buy their product. Which is wild, and makes me feel like women aren't worth anything. They don't care about us.

Not period products, tampons.
It's always tampons.
And as women know the last thing you'd ever borrow because of individual preference.
They don't even attempt to make it believable by talking about pads because pads don't have the same use.

Right? I would never borrow a tampon, not just because of the size preferences but I also prefer tampons without applicators, and lots of women use those.

AND, no matter what kind of tampon it is, I know that I've had to throw a bunch of mine away as they roll around in my purse and sort of losing that plastic protection as it may unravel at the bottom of my purse, so yeah no, I'm not borrowing a tampon from anyone. I really need to clean my purse out.

Does anyone know what Tampax says about this? I mean, is it actually true that Tampax is doing something with Dylan?

There was an earlier thread that has now been removed that began with an article from a marketing magazine, stating that Tampax and Procter&Gamble haven't responded to a request for comment.

adland.tv/adnews/did-tampax-really-reach-out-dylan-mulvaney-collaboration-tiktok

I think Dylan is simply lying about being contacted at all, but I don't understand why Tampax won't clarify.

I see a lot of comments are being removed in this thread too, and I hope it doesn't get removed because I would really like to see Tampax being forced to clarify here.

I am still finding this quite upsetting. Not only Dylans offensive stereotypes about women that are apparently completely unironic, but the way women are cheering him on as well. Like, wake up, he is not interested in 'supporting women', he is using you as a prop to validate his own 'womanhood'. You are nothing more than support humans in the fantasy, you are there to do things like 'ask for a tampon' so that he feels more like a woman when he can provide one.

This is true in so many other cases, too. Women are expected to be the appreciative audience for validation purposes in lots of areas: toilets, changing rooms, prisons, refuges, sports, even feminism.

Otherwise our feelings do not matter, because - as you wrote - we are seen as emotional support humans. This might explain the immense rage I see online directed against any woman who rebels against that role. It's like a service dog turning and biting its owner.

@nepeta you are exactly right - its all about using us as validation. Look at the little twerp who had a tantrum because the assistant in Monsoon asked him to wait until the changing room was empty before he went in. He WANTED to go and twirl in front of the other women and girls in that changing room, and possibly get off to the thought of there being women the other side of a flimsy curtain in just their pants. It wouldn't have been anything like such a special experience for him if there hadn't been any women to validate him - and THATS what caused the tantrum.

I think zebrahood should not be linked to having four legs or stripes. Or at least having four legs and stripes shouldn't be a prominent part of zebrahood.

Cos then I can say I'm a zebra and convince myself it's sort of possible. I mean it destroys the whole concept of zebras for the entire population who actually are zebras, but hey I want this and I deserve it. So sod zebras. Except me. Who is a different but better kind of redefined just for me zebra.

Confused

Me too. I can't remember the last time I cried.

And in all the years of periods, if I got caught out without a tampon, I did what I imagine every other woman does and rammed a wodge of toilet paper in my knickers until I could sort myself out later. I certainly never asked another woman (or man for that matter) for a spare Tampax and I have never been asked either. Hmm

What is it with these men and their obsession with period products?

i said and was deleted. Guess the monitors are out in force on this one.

Suffice to say that I’ve had 37 years of periods (bar4 pregnancies) and I’ve never been asked for a tampon from a stranger.

Well I am obviously just crap at "being a girl " as I've not cried once today, let alone three times. 🙄

So really, why the fuck would anyone accept a tampon from some sheer random man? You have no idea who they are as a person. There are plenty of fucked up people in the world that could have tampered with it and done god knows what.

You would have to be beyond naiive not to be highly suspicious of motive and wtaf has happened to that tampon.

We've all seen the one handed social media posts about wanking in M&S cubicles on the floor and hoping some woman walks in it with her shoes off, who wank on lingerie and put it back on the peg for women to try on later, and the ones who wank on toilet paper in women's toilets in the hope they use it, the ones who pull wet tampons out of the sanitary bin to insert up their bums....

<shudder>

I wish I’d not read this.

Yes it certainly is.

Fuck off Dylan we can manage ourselves we don’t need males fixating on OUR periods

Gross. These creepy “ Dylans” have a deeply unhealthy obsession with sanpro.
If Tampax supports or pays this man, It will be an utter FARCE.

"I think womanhood should not be linked to periods or at least periods shouldn't be a prominent part of womanhood."

I think most girls & women would prefer that periods weren't so prominent in their lives, but they are. It's called reality.

As the song says ‘only women bleed’.

I'm just wondering, if Dylan has a purse full of tampax just in case someone needs one.....where does Dylan keep the red lipstick that all us wimmin are renowned for sharing in the public toilets???

He only has to give one tampon away, and then he has space for a tube of lipstick!
