The twitter account for the theatre group behind the Family Sex Show (@ThisEgg_) has revealed that there are performances planned of the Family Sex Show despite the cancellation of the national tour and they are looking for more venues to take them on.
It seems that the Bath performance(s) is/are running.

That BBC article has made me so fucking angry. Thousands of people raise concerns about the content and its dismissed as threatening tweets.

TheSilveryTinsellyPussycat · 19/04/2022 19:51

I was infuriated by the News on Radio 4 at 7pm.

Not going ahead because they have received "threatening tweets (etc.)"

Until the newsreader said that, I had been thinking that it was called off because if its content

I wish I had a subscription to the Guardian so I could cancel it. This really is the final straw.
Jobconfused · 19/04/2022 19:42

“Remember: not all women have vulvas, and not all vulvas belong to women.” In fat bold letters.

Nothing similar appears in relation to the penis. Why?

theDudesmummy · 19/04/2022 19:30

I refuse to be one of the "good people doing nothing" in this situation. CEOP have not come back to me even with an acknowledgement email. I may also report to local police wherever this company is registered.

FOJN · 19/04/2022 19:13

I doubt very much that any real teacher would think that “ show “ was appropriate for children.
It’s very possible that some people on Mumsnet are not what they say they are.

I agree lots of people post lies on MN but the two posters I'm thinking of were quite convincing. Once upon a time I'd have been very quick to call bullshit but the thread posted by a paediatrician today demonstrates there are many otherwise intelligent, well educated people buying into queer theory that the job they do no longer surprises me.

@EmbarrassingHadrosaurus

I'm seeing a lot of Mary Whitehouse coming out in me.

Mary Whitehouse was astute enough to have identified the embedding of PIE within the Home Office. She contributed to the passing of the Protection of Children Act 1978.

Odd how it was politically expedient to ridicule her and deride the whole of her work as a pearl clutcher.

As you indicate, history as validated a number of her concerns so it's disappointing that her social biography is such that she's seen as a figure of ridicule.

This theatre company are clearly using the whole things as spin in order to feed off the notoriety and promote themselves.

My memory of MW growing up was that she's was a sad conservative woman - that's what media spin told me. And the "Mary Whitehouse experience." I never realised some of the key important things she achieved.

All the complaints are being spun as exactly the same, we are sad conservative women.

WarriorN · 19/04/2022 19:02

They don't understand children, child development, or child sexual development.

The people I've met who spout this rubbish are very privileged people who've never experienced or worked in professions where they'd have to learn about the devastating impact of csa and how abusers groom.

The ones I'm thinking of live around Bristol too. Hmm

FOJN · 19/04/2022 18:49

Why are there never receipts for the violent threats. The tweets the BBC chose to show were from people expressing relief that a show, which was so unsuitable for children, had been cancelled.

WarriorN · 19/04/2022 18:45

Obvs DARVO too.

WarriorN · 19/04/2022 18:45

One key aspect of their response is that within safeguarding, as soon as anyone points out an issue, point of view, consideration, you take the worst case scenario.

Wilful ignoring of raised points shows a narcissistic attitude which to me waves a ton of 🚩

No response to any of the issues, such as how children who've been abused would interpret the content or that the content is how abusers operate.

What a surprise. I'm so glad I no longer pay my licence fee. You don't have to unless you watch live tv or BBC.

I find paid subscription services more than make up for the Savile-loving BBC. Women and kids will never be their priority- look how they silenced people speaking up about Savile for years and years.

@Omemiserum

Any of you old enough to remember the 'paedophile information exchange', supported for a while by labour ministers such as Patricia Hewitt and Harriet Harman. All that needs for this rubbish to flourish is for decent people to say nothing.
Yes I just about remember the furore. And at least we are doing something. I'm seeing a lot of Mary Whitehouse coming out in me. I'm absolutely pissed off though that yet again all my energies (and often money) is being taken up by what I thought was done and dusted. Obviously excepting things we dont know yet but will learn. I could be doing much more with my time and money, more useful things, but here we all are fighting with emails and court cases, simply to have what is a right. Mind blowing stuff.

Invited audience = woke families and Jimmy Savile conventioneers.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 19/04/2022 18:12

@AuntyFungal

It’s times like this, that I wish certain banned posters with particular specialisms in , oh I don’t know, say safeguarding, could be reinstated.

Especially when you consider what they were banned for & how the specifics of the ban could be challenged if it were in other settings ie work…

Yes! Maybe, in all the shouting and hollering, there was a very distressed and angry woman who saw what was likely to happen and tried to alert us all and some other people who heard the volume and not the message. She probably did end up being rude, I didn't blame her then and certainly don't now.

But we do miss her! Her input on this would have been utterly invaluable!

MsGoodenough · 19/04/2022 18:10

I've reported to CEOP as well, although I suspect they won't engage with it as it is geared towards targeted abuse to named individuals.

tabbycatstripy · 19/04/2022 18:09

‘I doubt very much that any real teacher would think that “ show “ was appropriate for children. It’s very possible that some people on Mumsnet are not what they say they are.’

I think nearly all teachers would think it was outrageous and a serious concern. But (like all professions) teaching has been infiltrated (it feels embarrassing even writing that word - makes me sound very paranoid - but it’s the only accurate way to describe it) by ideologists who think their purpose in education is to liberate the poor children from the shackles of a queer-hating establishment.

Rhannion · 19/04/2022 18:06

@FOJN

Basically I’m wondering whether there are quite a few people in this field who don’t understand safeguarding as they ought to, potentially enabling those with a nefarious agenda to operate in plain sight.

I'm quite shocked by how poor the understanding of safeguarding seems to be. My only professional experience would have been safeguarding training for vulnerable adults. I have no experience or training in child safeguarding, my education on that came from MN and a much missed poster, and yet it it was immediately obvious to me what the problems were. It's very concerning that people who should know, don't know. On the first thread in AIBU there were teachers who thought TFSS was a great idea.

I doubt very much that any real teacher would think that “ show “ was appropriate for children. It’s very possible that some people on Mumsnet are not what they say they are.
DomesticatedZombie · 19/04/2022 17:54

Well. I did as the Family Sex Show suggested and carried out an internet search for 'animals that masturbate.

Reader: Don't.

CanofCant · 19/04/2022 17:41

@SmallSoupcon

In plain sight. And people ask how the Jimmy Savile thing happened. Like this. It happened like this. They are telling us exactly who they are, just like he did.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
nepeta · 19/04/2022 17:40

I spent time on that site. It's oddly male-centered in its flavour. There seem to be no boundaries and nothing is age-inappropriate.

And it does the usual erasure of names for the female sex while keeping the old names for the male sex.

FOJN · 19/04/2022 17:23

Copying this over from the other thread about TFSS. The UK weren't the only country which was home to a movement intent on normalising adult/child sexual relationships. Like PIE some of the people involved (directly in at least one case) remain active in politics to this day.
