Can anyone more knowledgeable confirm if this is true or not? Or is the video distorting the truth? I can’t quite bring myself to believe this could be true: m.youtube.com/watch?v=kBQkHT5zpc8

@Crcohetmonster

She signed the letter by Foucault advocating for the abolition of the age of consent laws. So she is just as pro pedophile as he is.
Personally I find de Beauvoir unreadable and she was a bit of a doormat so as the "great man" Sartre.

And , like Ash Sarkar, she is another who has the luxury of spouting that she was a Communist/ Marxist/ whatever , knowing she'll either (a) never be tested as to what living under such a regime would be like or (b) if it were to happen would have her nose in the trough at the top table.

Crcohetmonster · 18/04/2022 19:01

Yes it is. Now I know I’m losing the plot. I could blame baby brain but it’s 20 years too late. Now I can go and read the stranger again.

MarciaDidia · 18/04/2022 18:58

@Crcohetmonster

Yeah, it’s the reason I refuse to read Satre any more either, much as I loved the stranger. I know this makes me as bad as the TRA for not separating the author from the work, but it’s just me,
Isn't The Stranger by Camus?
tabbycatstripy · 18/04/2022 18:46

‘In the 1970s number of famous thinkers and writers argued that the age of consent was about young people’s right to a sexual life...’

Colin doesn’t say anything about the age of consent but this is basically the rest of his argument.

In the 1970s number of famous thinkers and writers argued that the age of consent was about young people’s right to a sexual life, which was why they and others supported legal changes (some of them argued that it was to harmonise the age of consent to sex for heterosexuals, gays and lesbians in some countries alongside the harmonisation of the age of consent to some sex acts where these were written into the penal code).

I do not understand their failure to anticipate what this might be used to legitimise and the civil liberties wash that it gave to CSA and CSE.

tabbycatstripy · 18/04/2022 18:21

Anyone can quote anyone. It depends what argument they use the quote to make. This guy is using Foucault to argue for more extensive ‘sex education’ for younger people, including (particularly) disabled people. He regards this as a ‘sexual right’. The language is in some respects ambiguous but I find the thesis as a whole very concerning.

TheMarzipanDildo · 18/04/2022 18:12

Wow I didn’t know that Crcohetmonster Shock

TheMarzipanDildo · 18/04/2022 17:32

@Crcohetmonster

Did he really quote Foucault? The same Foucault who advocated for the age of consent to be removed in France. I give him the sane respect I would have for anyone quoting Simone de Beuvoir or Judith Butler. That’s none
What’s wrong with Simone de Beauvoir? I know she gets quoted out of context a lot by TRA types but I remember liking The Second Sex.

I have no problem quoting Foucault on certain subjects, but certainly not child safeguarding! Urgh

tabbycatstripy · 18/04/2022 14:59

Think the point here is that the protection of children from premature exposure to sex is definitely part of a conservative agenda, but it should be part of every person’s agenda. To disregard concerns because the person communicating them is conservative is to muddle the issue.

I’ve read some of the thesis and the quotes are accurate.

tabbycatstripy · 18/04/2022 14:57

You can find the thesis online. There’s a link in the Scottish Daily Express article.

Pluvia

If Donald Trump pointed out a fatal flaw on a plane you were about to board, that once pointed out was clear for all to see, would you ignore him and get on the plane?

tabbycatstripy · 18/04/2022 14:40

(That doesn’t mean I’m confident this is accurate. But it is a serious allegation nevertheless.)

Lovelyricepudding · 18/04/2022 14:40

So suddenly we should ignore the appointment of someone who, based on his own PhD or other writings, seems to be pro-paedophilia to the body writing sex and relationship education in school - because we dislike the person who raised this?

WTF!

tabbycatstripy · 18/04/2022 14:38

‘The Scottish Family Party website raised a number of red flags, so for the time being I'm not going to support anything they raise. If and when a feminist safeguarding expert reads that PhD and expresses concern, then I may question the appointment of Colin Morrison. Until then, I'd suggest we all walk around this with a peg on our noses.’

What? Put a peg on my nose and ignore paedophiles designing kids’ sex education?

No.

I don’t have to support him to understand that what he is saying is immediately concerning.

Isn’t that why we’re in this entire mess? People ignoring red flags because of who is waving them?

Pluvia · 18/04/2022 14:11

I see the OP hasn't come back. And they appear to be a one-post poster.
I think there's a bad whiff here.

FOJN · 18/04/2022 13:27

I didn't need Google to know the Scottish Family Party would be promoting the kind of socially conservative values I disagree with.

It would be wonderful if more socially liberal parties could stop behaving as if safeguarding is tool for oppressing paedophiles.

Until then we're stuck with incompatible allies.

audweb · 18/04/2022 13:19

@Pluvia

Are you a member of the Scottish Family Party, OP? Just wondering.

Do you know anything about the SFP — its background and values? I'm in Wales, so I'd never heard if it until I just googled.

They are pretty awful. Don’t believe in abortion, only hetro two parent families (so not single parents or gay couples) repeal the smacking ban, and that’s not even touching on their proposal for a national certification on character qualities that would decide if people got state benefits. They also didn’t believe in an covid restrictions.

It’s really depressing they have any support at all.

Rhannion · 18/04/2022 13:07

What a bloody shower ! More 🚩 🚩 from the SNP/ Greens
We women in Scotland are fighting back hard

tabbycatstripy · 18/04/2022 12:51

He clearly is advocating for children to have “sexual rights”. And the SNP (if this is all accurate) are fine with that. Fucking hell.

FOJN · 18/04/2022 12:48

If you read that thesis and still employed this man for the job then you have announced your agenda. I haven't read the whole thesis but have scrolled through it and almost every paragraph I randomly picked to read in full is problematic

FOJN · 18/04/2022 12:45

No one quoting Foucault to support their argument should be allowed anywhere near sex ed for children.

It's never ending.
