Apparently female rape survivors 'need' mixed sex groups

Honestly. This is what my local rape crisis centre wrote in a letter to the EHRC.

Apparently women who have been raped need to welcome trans women into the rape crisis groups as they provide amazing value and are 'needed'.

Of course they haven't actually asked female survivors. None of it is trauma informed. I've no idea what the motivation is but its dodgy as hell.

This is just so unfair. If the organisation is providing specialist groups which are for trans people only (which is great, and no sane person would object to that), why on earth can’t they also provide a service only for females (even if they refer to it as a group for ciswomen, as I imagine they would, at least then there would be something that is only for women). Why do trans people get to have their own group but women don’t? If they followed their own logic, then surely the trans-only groups would benefit from having people present who are not trans. Us ‘cis’ folk could bring ‘value’ to the trans group, no? I don’t understand why they can’t see how unfair this is.

The service users are conduits for the implementation of imposed theories, rather than your the concepts and theories underpinning your service your arising from the experiences and voices of the women who use your services.
This: Service users being made to fit the policies rather than the other way round. Not uncommon.

And the females and the service they need are viewed as resources for expressing, furthering and performing those theories, the desire is to use the service for the serving of the theory rather than a desire to just work with and help those women.

It's increasingly getting to be that once a service lets in this eat-everything-in-its-path ideology, the service is no longer capable or competent of doing anything but serve the theory. It's incompatible with continuing the core brief. And this is why political capture is a Bad Thing.

Funding needs stripping, and new services setting up that actually serve raped women, instead of serving TQ agendas using them. (And just not bothering with the ones who won't co operatively be used.)

Thanks Purgatory and yes higher I totally agree. Lots of their videos seem to be made by young, idealistic women fresh out of uni.

They posted the same video on Facebook. I was interested to see that only two people liked it, both appear to be trans activists.

I guess these are all young educated women who have studied in social sciences, and are more interested in theories and ideas than anything else. They clearly see their day job as an opportunity to implement these theories rather than centring and working 'foundation up' with their service users, iyswim. Not my work, I just do some admin. I rarely make it to the 'shop floor' in the centre. The foodbank is more my space Smile
That is very important work, too. We all need to eat.

How wonderful! I'm so glad to read that as I have been depressed all due to the world going crazy in far too many ways.

Thank you for your work.

I wondered if I'd happened upon a Brass Eye cutting that was deemed too out there to broadcast when I watched this.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 19/04/2022 17:47

@nepeta

I have thought about this over the last few days, and the only conclusion I have arrived at is this: Many previously for-women organisations have been captured and are now for-transwomen organisations.

The capture may or may not have been intentional, but once the gender identity ideology took hold it was pretty much a done thing. The globally oppressed sex, 'women,' was turned into the privileged sub-class of the new gender identity class 'women'. And young activists don't want to fight for the more privileged groups...

I have good news for you then!

I have just left a meeting about funding for a variety of community charities. We didn't get to the agenda as an older gentleman had brought in copies of the Survivors Network letter and comandeered the meeting. They are furious.

They are writing a response, from our crisis centre/refuge and it will ostensibly be sent by one of our younger workers - in her* 20s, non binary, blue haired etc etc. very stereotypically one thing and yet, she holds no truck with TWAW etc. She will, apparently, send it on behalf of all of the younger users of the centre, mums, kids, all traumatised and in hiding from male violence.

Survivors Netweork and everyone who signed it, if they can be found, MPs etc will get a copy. They are all quite angry, after some initial disbelief. I doubt this will be the last I see of this! Grin

*Her take on pronouns is she is what she is, don't sweat it, I have not misgendered her so don't bother reporting me Oh Ye Who Monitor!.

Yes, quelle suprise indeed!

And no replies permitted. Quelle Surprise.

Somanysocks · 19/04/2022 17:06

And in what form does the 'amazing value' manifest for traumatised women I wonder?

'they add amazing value to these spaces'

Still can't get over that phrase. Is it implying the boring old cunty type of women are of a lesser value than male-born people? Because it seems to imply that to me.

I was thinking the same.

Imagine if a trans charity was run by GC feminists who wrote to the ERCH saying GC women are welcome in all trans groups. Imagine if GC feminists claimed GC women provided amazing value to safe trans spaces and trans people need GC women in their spaces.

That’s how nonsensical it feels, particularly as trans activists always insist they were raped by GC women 🙄

OP posts:
PurgatoryOfPotholes · 17/04/2022 21:53

That's what I get from it, and the implication that the support of womyn-born-womyn is a bit useless compared to the support of a male person.

If the wrong person had written this, they'd be cancelled for transphobia and misogyny, tbh.

@HermioneWeasley

I don’t often hate people, but I hate the women doing this to other women. Using survivors of sexual violence to push your ideology and virtue signal.

I hate and despise these women. If I saw them in person I think I would spit on them.

I understand the passion created in full view of internalised misogyny but no…no spitting, milkshakes, nor other familiar expressions of contempt.

Feminism is a political practice of fighting male supremacy on behalf of women as a class, including all the women you don't like, including all the women you don't want to be around, including all the women who use to be your best friends whom you don't want anything to do with any more. It doesn't matter who the individual women are. -- Andrea Dworkin

I don't always succeed, but I try and remember this when I need to remember how easy it is to be caught up in the general contempt for women and the need for a route back to other women when the scales fall from the scales on the eyes of those who couldn't previously see it.

The younger generation appears to feel that they must pick either supporting transgender people or supporting bog-standard women, and they believe the former need that support more.

That's quite a generous interpretation and I applaud that you're much less cynical than I am. I'm at the stage where I interpret such choices as being made by those who know that supporting one group to the detriment of the other is a sound path, whether for career reasons or as a CV ornament for a voluntary activity.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 17/04/2022 17:26

I tried to respond to this, but couldn't write anything that wouldn't be deleted. Traumatised women do not need anyone telling them to prioritise male feelings.

Love in sisterhood to Sarah and all women recovering from male violence.

nepeta · 17/04/2022 16:46

I read the letter and much of the research the author of that letter supposedly used for the evidence they cite.

The evidence on sexual violence against women and transgender people comes from several different studies, most of which are based on American data, but the numbers are compared between studies with different methodologies. It's quite possible that the numbers are not comparable (a bit like adding pounds and ounces to kilos and grams without realising that one is doing that).

The ones about violence against trans people are not based on statistical samples but on asking people to participate by leaving ads on various transgender or LGBTetc sites.

That is a convenient way of reaching respondents, but because they self-select it is quite likely that their situation cannot be generalised into all transgender people's experiences, say. Those with strongest feelings about the topic of some study are most likely to take part, to give one example of the kind of bias that might be introduced.

So I wouldn't regard the evidence the letter quotes as necessarily correct yet.

But what really struck me about the tone of the letter is something I have felt in other contexts, too: The younger generation appears to feel that they must pick either supporting transgender people or supporting bog-standard women, and they believe the former need that support more.

What they don't seem to see is that they are not supporting transgender people as much as the gender identity ideology with its attempts to entirely erase the sex class 'women' while keeping the sex class 'men' intact. It's possible to support transgender rights without supporting the idiotic gender identity cult, and I'd recommend trying to distinguish between the two as the gender identity approach is inherently sexist, misogynist and ultimately incapable of guaranteeing equality of the sexes (not interested in that, either, of course).
