So OJ will now be suing Private Eye, will he?

HardyBuckette · 13/04/2022 17:04

@EmbarrassingHadrosaurus

Has there been a statement from the Guardian? I can’t find it yet.

Neither can I. Not on Twitter or the newspaper. Internal email although it reads as more public facing.

I expect they're hoping it all blows over quickly.
TensionWheelsCooIHeels · 13/04/2022 16:58

@WarriorN

And yet....Ben Butterworth has said that he was bullied by OJ many times.

(I know, I had to double check.)

I've seen them mid argument on twitter.

They have 'beef' - competition for TV slots - Jones disapproves of Bitterworth appearing on GBNews.

The bullying thing is from Twitter. It's not in the Private Eye article (is it?).

BacklashBacklash · 13/04/2022 16:46

I mean that Guardian statement fits pretty well with "Yet it has tried to keep the report quiet and appears not to have sanctioned Jones at all." It's weasel words. Not found guilty of bullying but probably found guilty of a synonym for bullying.

WinterTrees · 13/04/2022 16:44

If that sparse Guardian statement is all LOJ has to hide behind he's in trouble.

It's hardly a ringing endorsement of his professional integrity and personal decency is it? More of a 'we're pissed off that this was leaked and anyway 'found guilty of bullying' wasn't the actual exact phrase used so it's not even strictly true ok?'

That statement from the Guardian looks like something he’s knocked up himself in the notes on his phone and screenshot it.

Talcum X is officially a misogynist?

Colour me surprised.

And I'm not sitting here sniggering at him being caught out in his arrant hypocrisy.

No, not me.

everythingcrossed · 13/04/2022 15:41

Re: Maugham's tweet, why would Private Eye writers get in touch with him to express disappointment about the magazine's stance on trans issues? That sounds a bit... well, I won't say made up but unlikely?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 13/04/2022 15:36

Bullying women does seem to be a feature of these men doesn't it? Rather than a bug.

Terfydactyl · 13/04/2022 15:34

@Pluvia

Who on earth would have predicted that Little Owen Jones would turn out to be a man who loved bullying women? Hmm
I know, it's a shocker all right. I'm sat here scratching my head wondering how it took so long actually.
EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 13/04/2022 15:33

@ControversialOpening

I’m sure it won’t be long before Maugham declares this as a victory for OJ
Like the recent case with Runnymede Trust?

He is very quiet on Twitter today. I wonder if he is realising that the game is probably up for him acting in this way? He wrote a big long thread the other day about the spat with Suzanne Moore and how none of it was his fault obviously, and clearly no one gives a fuck! So how is he going to get out of this? What else can he do? No one is going to buy another long Twitter thread about how everyone apart from him is such a big meanie, but he doesn't really have that many outlets does he? He can do a podcast on it - hardly anyone watches the ones he does do, considering he has 1 million followers. He can hardly write a Guardian piece on it! I doubt the viewers of Jeremy Vine on 5 are going to care.....

Artichokeleaves · 13/04/2022 15:20

Gosh what a surprise. I am surprised. Were you surprised? I was surprised....

Brat of a man.

RoyalCorgi · 13/04/2022 14:54

Yes, how weird but completely typical. You'd almost have the impression that Private Eye carried out the investigation from these tweets.

Yes - unless Jolyon is accusing Private Eye of making up the story, he should turn his ire on the independent investigator who found LOJ guilty of bullying. Private Eye is simply reporting the facts.

BreadInCaptivity · 13/04/2022 14:51

@ExMachinaDeus

And we now also have the obligatory multiple tweet thread (I mean, going on forevah) reversing and deflecting. He is really the one bullied by Ms Moore, doncha know.

I mean, really ...?

Link please? Couldn't find it.

EsmaCannonball · 13/04/2022 14:50

Hang on, wouldn't falling out with Benjamin Butterworth make him a racist too? Grin

BacklashBacklash · 13/04/2022 14:35

I wonder what he'll do if other media outlets pick up the story. Slur them too, I suppose.

BacklashBacklash · 13/04/2022 14:33

@PronounssheRa

Summary: I admire much that private eye do, but on this I'm going to ignore them and the independent investigation and instead fling round accusations of homophobia and transphobia

I wonder how that right side of history is working out for him.
