Extremely vocal intervention by CB following a jury finding his fellow Conservative Wakefield MP guilty of sexual assault....

Wow. That is a very interesting development. Some very clear headed thinking there.

That's the 2nd resignation from the APPG

@Butfirstcoffees

Hang on. Crispin is quite OK with IAK talking to a 15 year old about porn and what type of porn the child might like?
Of course he is. He also supports male sex offenders being given easier access to victims by being placed in women’s prisons. So is it really surprising?

@tabbycatstripy

That ratio is hairy.

However, I would like to hear more. What does Blunt think makes this a miscarriage of justice?

My understanding is that the assault happened when the boy was given alcohol (why?) and then he was dragged upstairs (why?) and he laid down in a bunk. And then (according to testimony and now according to the jury) Khan touched him.

That ITV article above has more detail.
tabbycatstripy · 11/04/2022 22:16

He does.

PronounssheRa · 11/04/2022 22:15

I can only think of 2 points. Either he doesn't believe the victim (despite not being in court for any of the victims evidence twitter.com/harry_horton/status/1513623057771937799), or he accepts what happened but he doesn't believe it is or should be against the law.

So yes I think blunt really needs to clarify.

SwissBall · 11/04/2022 22:14

Not the main point but I find his “statements” so pompous. Why can’t he tweet them like everyone else? He’s not the PM.

Also, horrific behaviour, as per.

tabbycatstripy · 11/04/2022 22:10

And the porn: why?

Sorry wasnt quite clear IAK admits he discussed porn with a 15 year old. So CB can't not believe that bit and is OK with it?

DomesticatedZombie · 11/04/2022 21:51

Noting:

'Imran Khan’s defence asked the jury to give “considerable weight” to numerous “people of high standing prepared to put their name forward in support of him.”

They included Gravesham MP Adam Holloway, who described Imran Khan as “highly intelligent” with “forthright views”. And Valery Tsepkalo, a Belarusian politician turned opposition activist who said he was “shocked” to find out about the allegations of sexual assault.'

SigourneyHoward · 11/04/2022 21:50

CB is getting quite the ratio from political commentators on twitter

He never stops saying the quiet bit out loud does he?

Plasmodesmata · 11/04/2022 21:48

It happened in 2008 and Khan is 48 now, so if my maths is right he was 34.

DomesticatedZombie · 11/04/2022 21:47

Khan is now 48 ... he would have been 36? Appalling.

I am genuinely shocked by this.

Blunt is ... well, I can't say what I think.

TheMarzipanDildo · 11/04/2022 21:47

Oh, I see they are a man now. Still bloody horrendous

PronounssheRa · 11/04/2022 21:46

If anyone is reinforcing lazy tropes about gay men it's blunt.

A lot of people are calling for the whip to be withdrawn, if that happens no doubt blunt will also blame that on homophobia.

TheMarzipanDildo · 11/04/2022 21:45

Urgh Angry

Poor boy, having to deal with the trial and then not being believed by an idiot MP. You need a pretty bloody watertight case to convict someone for this type of crime.

DomesticatedZombie · 11/04/2022 21:41

@Plasmodesmata

News story about Imran Ahmad Khan here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-61026348 "Khan attempted to have the case heard in secrecy, and to have the age of the victim withheld." That age being 15.

And Crispin Blunt is defending him?

Shock

What age was Khan at the time?

ScreamingMeMe · 11/04/2022 21:41

Informative tweet here. It really ia difficult to see how Khan isn't guilty as sin:

twitter.com/alexwickham/status/1513616396315463689?s=20&t=yu1UCdk-BSlXzFSQ0iIhmw

"If you read this by @harry_horton who was in court for the trial, detailing exactly what Khan did and the incriminating statements he made in his own defence, this Blunt post is even more disturbing"

TheGreatATuin · 11/04/2022 21:38

This is awful. And when I read up on the case, it's even worse. Blunt is doing a massive disservice to the gay community by claiming this conviction is anti-LGBT.
