The DM article quotes from a thread on mumsnet in AIBU www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4524406-Deeply-concerned-about-Child-Safety-in-Bristol?messages=100&pg=1

The Mail explains:
"A theatre company has sparked fury by staging a show featuring naked bodies that explores 'love, sexuality and sexual pleasure' aimed at children as young as five. ..
The website describes it as 'a fun and silly performance about the painfully awkward subject of sex, exploring names and functions, boundaries, consent, pleasure, queerness, sex, gender and relationships.
It goes on: 'Using real life bodies, personal stories, songs and movement, The Family Sex Show puts the good stuff at the forefront of conversation and imagines a future where there is no shame; but a celebration of difference, equality and liberation.' "

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10700795/Fury-theatre-company-stages-naked-exploring-sexuality-sexual-pleasure-queerness.html

It is claimed to be based on the school curriculum but according to a AIBU poster, it includes gender identity indoctrination, along with the stuff about sexual pleasure, nudity, etc:

"I would challenge PPs to show where pegging comes in the RSE curriculum for 5 year olds.
Or ‘TERF’, which is helpfully included in the glossary, just in case we were in any doubt about this group’s intentions.
They can just FOTHFSOFAFOSM with their queering and cissing. If any public money is going into this, it’s a fucking outrage when huge numbers of children are arriving at school hungry."

@garlicandsapphires

They have removed the awful glossary from the website.
It's a pity for them that it has been archived then. There is a link on the other thread.
Musomama1 · 14/04/2022 21:20

Yeah that glossary.

Is that offered as a pre or post show discussion between families? Something for youngsters to access before watching the show? Ideas that have informed the show?

None of it is remotely family friendly, in fact reading it in this context made me feel a bit queesy.

I tell you, before becoming a parent you have no idea of the creepy twats out there with their weird agendas. And how regardless they seem to seep through into contact with children.

2Gen · 14/04/2022 16:59

@tabbycatstripy

Yes, they get public money to tell kids about pegging and squirting. Definitely living in the end times.
@tabbycatstripy-I've got to the age of 61, lived a full and interesting life, but I don't even know what pegging or squirting is, nor do I want nor need to! This really is ramping up the agenda to sexualise children, even the youngest. I'm horrified, sickened! Mind-blown too, because they're so brazen about it! These people are depraved. They are predators!-
KittenKong · 14/04/2022 16:34

@FOJN

One of the performers is quoted somewhere on the theatre company's website stating that the highlight for them was getting naked and singing about genitals.

There were at least two teachers on the other thread who claimed to understand safeguarding and thought this was fine and definitely not grooming!

I’ve just done my updated safeguarding - its not fine.
tabbycatstripy · 14/04/2022 12:42

I am so sick of this shit. Tired of opening obviously creepy shit and seeing the same institutional names all over the credits: University of Leicester (surprise!), Girlguiding (who would have thought?), Stonewall (shocked, I tell you).

Why can’t people show some actual adult judgment?

NotBadConsidering · 14/04/2022 12:32

So they have Hmm.

Pegging
Play Parties
Playwright

Was just one example of sex terms intermingled with theatre terms.

garlicandsapphires · 14/04/2022 12:28

They have removed the awful glossary from the website.

TopKnotch · 14/04/2022 11:40

There is a lot of the "you are who you say you are" all over that grid.

Anyone using that statement, especially in the context of children and SRE education is loudly displaying their lack of understanding of safeguarding.

Massive. Red. Billowing. Flags

TopKnotch · 14/04/2022 11:35

The use of "their" on their Instagram page is unhelpful tbh.

In captioning pictures to presumably help the Visually Impaired, they just confuse.

Still there Garlic but comments appear to be limited (and only gushing permitted).

garlicandsapphires · 13/04/2022 18:49

Can anyone see if their Instagram still exists? I wrote a very reasonable comment (about it working well for 13+) and I appear to have been blocked!

doublemonkey · 13/04/2022 18:34

@PegLegAntoine

I’m not sure if they did say it outright but possibly their quoting of NSPCC guidelines may be making it look that way.
Is that on their website still?

doublemonkey · 13/04/2022 17:45

Did they say they were affiliated with the NSPCC?

PegLegAntoine · 13/04/2022 14:16

One hopes they’ll do more than just give them a rap on the knuckles for using their name though!

It was bad enough having to sit through the kissing and eyebrow waggling in James Bond films when I was a kid aged sitting next to my parents, let alone some pasty actors getting their floppily doppellies out on stage!
Puts me in mind of this Blackadder sketch

OmIndeed · 12/04/2022 14:09

We don't know the show's content, but they have a podcast series that provides some insight... "16+ or up to you" not off to a good start.

@partystress Ahh okay, I thought you meant they were working whilst waiting for the check. Shock

Judging by the shambolic way they are conducting themselves, I don't think safeguarding is on the top of their list.

Let's hope they at least raise the minimum age to 15.

Not that I would have wanted to see this sort of thing ever when I was that age.

partystress · 11/04/2022 20:02

@ickky. No, my point was that the teachers aren’t able to start in a new school until the new DBS comes through. With the massive shortage of supply staff and high sickness rates, they’re still not being processed quickly enough. So I doubt these performers have been through DBS for these roles. Of course, if they stay on stage and children stay in their seats, that’s not relevant legally. But if I were running a theatre company doing work even vaguely along the tamest interpretation of what’s going to be happening, I’d want enhanced DBS type assurance for anyone involved.

As it is, the descriptions, glossary and statements make clear this is a deeply concerning show for anyone who believes in child protection and safeguarding.

StopStartStop · 11/04/2022 17:36

I was a teacher for twenty years. It was clear that child sexual abuse is endemic, and therefore I think there are many parents who would welcome this inappropriate theatre show.

CarbonelCat · 11/04/2022 17:18

I do not get the Drag storytimes either.

I just don't understand what the adults are thinking. What do parents think this is adding to their children's experience?!

What tickets to this have already sold? Who to? That would be really interesting.

Zeugma · 11/04/2022 17:14

To make a more serious point - I went to see the magic roundabout and play days when I was 5

This 👆 I was a desperately shy and anxious child. I’d have been upset, really upset and afraid if taken to something like this. And while we're about it, the grotesque spectacle of 'Drag Queen Story Time' would have given me screaming nightmares for months. I find it genuinely disturbing enough now.
