Had a conversation a few weeks ago around feminism and womens rights and my friend, an A level Biology teacher, said categorically that trans men WERE women.

I was so shocked and upset I didn't feel like arguing, but what can I say as we'll almost certainly have the conversation again. We both have daughters and we were talking about the Girl Guiding trans leader.

Ask her if it's possible for a transwoman & a man to reproduce- if not why not.

@HipTightOnions

You will be looking for a needle in the proverbial haystack to find any teacher who would disagree with the mantra of TWAW.

Not true. We do exist, but many aren't able to speak out at work.

I guess this is true, we have a prominent LGBT+ student group, in our school well not so much LGB if I am being totally honest. The school will often put the needs and wants of this small group of students who are all intelligent, sometimes misinformed but who seem to carry a lot of power. The fear of being labelled transphobic stops any sort of discussion or debate. Being pro-women is now apparently anti-trans.

We have students with diagnosed gender dysphoria, some who self-identify as female and others who for all intents and purposes are gay, but describe themselves as genderqueer and use she/they pronouns. It’s confusing for me as an adult, but I do feel that a lot of students who are struggling with their sexuality find comfort and solidarity in the trans movement. But it seems to be all or nothing, there is no balance, I can’t help but feel that it is only a matter of time before this all implodes.

(Wish there was an edit facility here sometimes.... Grin)

Has she read 1984? Does she know 2+2+5?

She's a biologist - ask her who has the babies and how does that happen. Ask her which individuals suffer FGM and why. Ask her what is the correlation between the two.

I’m not surprised, schools are obsessed with this. To be honest, they are trying to support their students which is a good thing, but I do not think they see/think beyond this. I certainly do not think they have thought about the long term effects of the TRA misogyny. My best friend is the same. Although a forensic scientist not a teacher. Not sure how she's going to know if a skeleton is a man or a woman if a woman is anyone who says their a woman.
What i find particularly sad about it is that she's the person who introduced me to feminism :(

@Imastroppycow2

Who cares, if s/he wants to identify as one gender or the other, that’s their choice. What they are biologically is no one’s business
It is when it starts to impinge on other people's rights.

Sports, to take an obvious example.

WhereYouLeftIt · 08/04/2022 22:20

She's an idiot.

ClaudiusTheGod · 08/04/2022 22:18

Not surprised. Loads of people throw their actual knowledge out of the window in an attempt to appear to be on the Right Side. I know a biology teacher who believes in all that crystal energy woo.

VelvetChairGirl · 08/04/2022 22:09

thats what brainwashing does, makes you deny reality.

the earth is flat!, 5G causes covid etc etc, I really wouldn't put any stock in to how stupid people can be regardless of profession, and biology teachers are not the same as biologists.

I think the classes at my sons secondary are crap so I wouldn't put much stock in their knowledge , they were told how babies were made without explaining erections/ejaculations, menstruation etc, they only spoke of the womb and ovaries not the rest of the female sex organs they have told him fuck all about body organs such as where the kidneys are, the appendix etc, or the ovaries for that matter they just talk no models, no pictures so how any of them are meant to know where any of it is without clear images or models I dont know.

I have been thinking about buying him a small anatomical model so he can learn all the things they should be teaching him, I think its very important to know where everything is, how else will you explain where problems are to a doctor if you need to.

aweegc · 08/04/2022 21:47

How does she know that trans women are women as if they're women, they wouldn't be trans women, as only males can be trans women.

Or does she think that you too can be a trans woman, as obviously you don't have to be male, as male ceases to exist once the trans identifying male states he's a woman.

Questions I'd like to have answered if I were you. But in reality I'd be reducing any such talk to a minimum, in the same way I would about the globe if I had a flat-earther friend.

It's so very disappointing when intelligent women come out with rubbish. But you won't change her mind so there's no point in going there. I can only wish that if she's ever in need of intimate care that it's her who gets the trans-identified male, and not someone like you.

Kendodd · 08/04/2022 21:37

Have you asked what her definition of a woman is?

Cailleach1 · 08/04/2022 21:35

Does she teach human reproduction? That would be fun. There is no way of knowing which sex is which, obviously.

ickky · 08/04/2022 21:35

Well in that case I would politely disagree and leave it at that.

She is a biology teacher so she knows the truth.

CatChant · 08/04/2022 21:34

Okay…I hope she’s not teaching my DC biology then.

MiniatureHotdog · 08/04/2022 21:34

Jeez. And she's a biology teacher?!?

MsTSwift · 08/04/2022 21:33

Christ wouldn’t want such a dimwit teaching any child of mine.

bluebellsandcustard · 08/04/2022 21:33

Sorry - I've cocked up. We were talking about biologic MALES identifying as women.

Circumferences · 08/04/2022 21:32

Oh.

Well then she's an idiot.

EdgeOfACoin · 08/04/2022 21:31

Apologies, cross posted with everyone else!

Circumferences · 08/04/2022 21:31

Has she said transmen are women or transwomen are women? Because only one of those statements are true.....

CORRECTION!!!

My mistake. I mean Transwomen. Sorry.

EdgeOfACoin · 08/04/2022 21:31

Transmen are biological females who identify as men. Transwomen are biological males who identify as women.

Are you sure your friend was talking about transmen?

The language around this is very confusing, unfortunately.
