She nailed every point and politely, but firmly, handed the interviewer her “TWAW/Be Kind” arse to her.

Honestly, if J K Rowling is Queen, this woman is the heir to the throne!

To be fair, I couldn’t work out if the presenter was simply feeding Sharron the most popular trope to have them answered, or was given those tropish points by a weak research team, or actually that was the level of her critical thinking.

Either way, the incredulity Sharron displayed at the end with that ‘be kind’ crap that only went one way was excellent. It

I love the hard stare Sharron Davies gives the interviewer when she trots out the ridiculous 'but let's just be kind...' trope at the end. This puzzled look as if she's never even heard of such nonsense and then her response to reframe it back onto the issue of why women should give up opportunities to accommodate athletes who were born male. Perfection.

Poor Rhona. That was a wee shame.

Moodlesofnoodles · 07/04/2022 23:38

She was great on Fox News in 2019 - talking about the Olympics and saying that the options were an Open competition and a biological women's competition, or a separate Trans games. She said she knew what it felt like for women to compete in these circumstances, because she spent 10 years competing against the East Germans, knowing that it was simply impossible to beat them.

Fabulous

I’m not sure the interviewer didn’t gift her all those scenarios etc on purpose to get those straight answers out there. I find frustrating that the testosterone levels don’t get mentioned enough, and the Phelps advantage always gets brought up as being exclusive. Sharon David had a great opportunity there to set the record straight.

I loved her answer to the ‘shouldn’t were just have empathy’ question.

Great interview with Brendan O'Neill on his podcast.

Beardyblokesbegone · 07/04/2022 13:14

@Chipchocmint

Sharron was fantastic on this and quite right saying that the sport governing bodies don't understand the science, I myself have learnt so much from the wonderful female posters on here and undoubtedly know more than them too!
She would run rings around those sports bodies when it comes to discussing science, she's a wonderful, intelligent woman.
Igmum · 07/04/2022 12:33

Yes yes yes Sharon! Plenty of facts, well presented while that idiot interviewer burbled be kind

She's only getting better at this. I'm in awe

@ginghamstarfish

I live in Scotland and have never seen or heard of this program so not sure how big viewing figures would be. Great thing to do, but even better if it's in the popular press, DM, Scottish Daily Mail etc.
It's on STV/Grampian. This edition was broadcast at the same time as Newsnight.
Ghislainedefeligonde · 07/04/2022 12:01

How embarrassing for the interviewer, Sharron absolutely nailed it! Fantastic to watch this

334bu · 07/04/2022 11:59

Yes I was wondering whether the interviewer was just lobbing Twitter type statements for Sharron tonknock away. She never interrupted Sharron, maybe she was not really cluelessHmm

Amortentia · 07/04/2022 11:53

@MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking

That was bloody brilliant Grin

What a stupid line of interviewing, yeah, shouldn't female athletes just be kind and understanding and let any male in to steal their spaces and win their medals because Michael Phelps Hmm

Sharron swept the floor with her!

I thought it was quite clever. The interviewer used points that frequently come up on Twitter. This interview showed how ridiculous they are and how they basically boil down to BeKind with total disregard for female athletes.
littlbrowndog · 07/04/2022 11:27

She so is

MrFlippersPancake · 07/04/2022 11:22

She is wonderful.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 07/04/2022 11:18

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to that - Sharrons's articulate, clear and knowledgeable. Thanks for the links.

GibbonsGoatsGibbons · 07/04/2022 11:13

Sharron is fabulous she made the interviewer look like a right dafty.

(Hope this reminds the broadcasters just how fab she is on screen- her pool-side interviews are always lovely)

AuntyFungal · 07/04/2022 10:56

The R5 interview.

So JH argues that all the participants in their studies have T levels within natal female range. Which are below sport’s requirements.

Adult T levels nm/L: without endocrine disorders.
Male = 8.7 - 29
Female = 0.2 - 1.7

So many Qs re JH studies.
How large are the sample sizes? Statistically meaningful data?
Like for like comparisons ie male, female, athlete to athletes (same sports), age, pre child / post child comparisons?
Survivor bias of the participants?
How are the participants chosen?
Longitudinal- how long?
Age of transition of participants?
Types of transition?
Are the participants still competing or retired?

More over, the IOC has now washed its hands of the T issue and there are no T requirements for the athletes. Individual sports bodies have set arbitrary levels between 5 - 10 depending on which sport.

So, if we follow JH re natal T levels. Are all TW athletes within 0.2 - 1.7, or just the ones in their study?
What evidence did the IOC use to set previous levels at 10 then 5 - still way above natal women’s levels? Given the lack of data.
Why the emphasis on T?
Why can’t natal women dope up to 1.7 or 5 or 10 (excluding the horrific health issues - Flo Jo)?

& I’m afraid this does affect DSD athletes.

Find me a TM competing at elite level against natal men (I don’t count dressage / mixed teams etc…) & I’ll be more receptive to the TW in women’s sports argument.

Amazing woman. An expert who can use facts with grace and class and courage.

334bu · 07/04/2022 10:10

Thank you for the Radio 5 link

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/04/2022 10:03
