Sky News.

He thinks it's unfair for biological men to compete in women's sports.

He says it's important to preserve women's spaces.

Says he has a lot to learn about the issue but we have to be sensible.

I'm being slow but it only just struck me last night - is going to be very, very difficult to sack people for expressing GC opinions when half the Cabinet is on record saying the same thing, isn't it?

Floisme · 08/04/2022 09:13

Oh please, we're not stupid. It's not a pledge, it's a bog standard political manouevre to draw attention to Labour Party idiocy. But I'll tell you what, when Boris Johnson can make the opposition look shifty, stupid and untrustworthy then we're all in deep shit.

Signalbox · 08/04/2022 09:12

How can anyone trust anything he says? Even general announcements from his government are usually full of lies.

I don’t trust much of what BJ says.

But I do trust Labour when they say they will bring in self ID. And I absolutely don’t want that to happen as I think it will be irreversible and fundamentally bad for women.

Signalbox · 08/04/2022 09:08

Just look at the latest if LGBT rights. What he do? Why do you think he did a couple of U turns and the hid stuff within the legislation?

I think he did a u turn because he was presented with convincing evidence that conversion therapy for youth with gender dysphoria is potentially a bad idea and it’s better to wait for the Cass review before legislating. It’s quite straight forward. I believed him because what he said makes sense.

Signalbox · 08/04/2022 09:04

@Signalbox no I don’t believe a word of what BJ says because he has a tack record of looking very convincing but then changing his mind. Or saying Yes I’ll do that and then introduce little bits in the so called legislation that change it all. Or just not doing it all.

So do you think BJ is a closet TRA?

(One recently on coming to my mind is about the VAT of solar panels)

@NotBadConsidering

The questions are always asked one way, never reversed. So we have

Why has Boris done nothing until now?

and never

Why are we living in a world where the prime minister or a country has to publicly state that males shouldn’t be playing in women’s sport?

That’s the question that needs to be asked. If sporting organisations and the Labour Party hadn’t been captured by ideology and kept their integrity, then Boris wouldn’t have even had to say a thing. But he has to, presumably with a heavy sigh, state the bleedin’ obvious because we live in a batshit world where stating reality gets you votes.

This.

It’s never been the job of the PM to organise sporting competitions. He’s probably been hoping it’d just sort itself out.

OvaHere · 08/04/2022 08:58

Mainstream now see this too, waking up to the danger. We are seeing a mass movement against it, the politics reflects the sea change in sentiment and feeling about this. Simple.

A friend of mine, works in the NHS (not direct patient care). I've been talking to him about this stuff on occasion for about 5 years now. We've never fallen out or argued but he's always felt it was just a niche, fringe issue "oh there have always been drag queens and that sort of thing".

This week he has engaged me about it and has been sending me links about detranitioners and Gender GP. Something has just clicked into place for him.

TheNameOfTheRoses · 08/04/2022 08:58

So why hasn't he and his party done anything over the last 12 years in power?
Exactly, why now?

Very simply because that position works for most of the conservatives as well as a lot of other people, women mainly.
The conservatives have lost a lot of votes just now thanks to party gate etc… it’s just a nice way for them to look more attractive.

And oh there are some elections in may too…

Don’t look further. With any other PM, I would have discussed their ideology etc… But BJ and co are only interested in staying in power with little regards for ethics or ideology.

Plus, as usual, I’d wonder if they can be trusted in their position anyway. They’ve gone back in many points of their manifesto. They’ve gone back on the reversion therapy for LGBT (twice). I can see them moving back from that too.

tabbycatstripy · 08/04/2022 08:57

‘So why hasn't he and his party done anything over the last 12 years in power?’

I only knew this was an issue 3-4 years ago. I don’t really mind if TW use the women’s toilets. What I didn’t know was that they were being housed in female prisons, demanding passports with false statements on them and using them to ‘prove’ they were female. I didn’t know activists were bullying women who don’t accept people have literally changed sex. I’d never heard the terms ‘cis’ or ‘non-binary’ (not that non-binary bothers me - but as Johnson said, these concepts are novel). I had no idea people were transitioning kids.

I imagine Johnson (like me) was happy with the consensus we reached decades ago that some people transition physically and socially and we are all very polite about it.

It’s obviously in the last 5-10 years that the activists have taken a grip and pushed holistic societal changes most people don’t want.

Signalbox · 08/04/2022 08:55

@GoodJanetBadJanet

He is only one who is speaking clearly about it Yes, because he'll say anything that he thinks will get him votes.
Do the people who think Boris was lying during that interview really think that BJ is a raging trans activist who thinks TWAW and only said what he said to get votes.

I know it’s hard to tell with BJ but on balance it seems more likely than not that he meant what he said.

Well, because like everyone else I guess they didn't want to rock the boat. Most normal people wish to be respectful of others, regardless, and if you Dean turns into Diana the consensus not so long ago was to respect and go with it.

It has only just really dawned on the mainstream that not on does Dean want his new name and style to be respected, but he also wants access to all parts of women's lives including the right to intimately examine women, to share cells with her and to use her changing rooms and showers and of course to outcompete her on the sports playing field. Dean has no intention of losing is male penis but he does like dressing up as a woman. He expects women to capitulate to his demands, because he can. That is a long way from where we started with respecting his name and pronouns and right to live as he wishes.

Mainstream now see this too, waking up to the danger. We are seeing a mass movement against it, the politics reflects the sea change in sentiment and feeling about this. Simple.

No one sent Labour the memo. Miliband waded in and started lecturing us about what it must be like for trans, without even mentioning what it must be like for a woman now at risk from rape on a hospital ward or a changing room. His omission was disgusting and anti women.

vinylcrackle · 07/04/2022 22:49

If the 15 year old is not able to understand the risks of the procedure, she can't give consent

Totally agree, her parents should be making the decision.

Children shouldnt be going through life changing medical procedures without their parent's involvement.

MangyInseam · 07/04/2022 22:43

@JC544D

So why hasn't he and his party done anything over the last 12 years in power?
Most of this wasn't even an issue 5 years ago. Haven't you been following the news? Two years ago many people still had no real idea what was going on. Because it was purposefully done in secret, and the realities purposefully obscured, and public discussion purposefully shut down.
MangyInseam · 07/04/2022 22:38

@GoodJanetBadJanet

It should be up to the parents of a 15 year old child to consent to an abortion

No, the 15 year old should get to decide whether they kee the baby.
Not the parent!
Then people say '' oh, but it doesnt mean for abortion. ''
It's made perfectly clear on this thread that once you've rolled back rights for trans people, there's people out there who are more than happy to roll back other rights affecting all women.
Fuck.
That.

If the 15 year old is not able to understand the risks of the procedure, she can't give consent.

That's not "rolling back rights." That is recognizing that consent is not possible if a person, of any age, can not understand the nature of the situation at a certain level.

It has to be done in relation to the nature of the individual medical treatment. A 14 year old can be able to consent to a hangnail removal, without being capable of consenting to a complex experimental cancer treatment. The latter doesn't mean the former is a problem.

And I'll just put out there, I have a friend who had several abortions under 16, as well as accessing contraception. You know what she really wishes? That her parents had been informed. Because she was in a situation that was too much for her, and the people who were not interested or able to help were the doctors at the clinic enabling that situation.

It's not so black and white as you seem to believe.

ResisterRex · 07/04/2022 22:33

The Tories now are listening. It's taken time but they are.

Labour had a golden opportunity to protect the Equality Act which they oversaw and threw it away with both hands. Not content with that, they made sure women who spoke out were isolated.

We know the story by this point.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 07/04/2022 22:32

GoodJanetBadJanet · 07/04/2022 22:31

Meanwhile, back at Labour HQ the brilliant plan seems to revolve around not picking up votes.
Plenty of people do still support Labour s vote though.
I do and most people I know.

JC544D · 07/04/2022 22:28

ResisterRex · 07/04/2022 22:25

Yes, because he'll say anything that he thinks will get him votes.

This again. Meanwhile, back at Labour HQ the brilliant plan seems to revolve around not picking up votes.

Awesome.

Does it matter ?
He is only one who is speaking clearly about it, shame on Keir Starmer and the lot for throwing women under the bus !
