Sky News.

He thinks it's unfair for biological men to compete in women's sports.

He says it's important to preserve women's spaces.

Says he has a lot to learn about the issue but we have to be sensible.

@GoodJanetBadJanet

Also bigger picture, such as abortion and birth control are more medical issues, whereas getting a tattoo is different as that's cosmetic.
A double-mastectomy such as we are discussing is being done for cosmetic reasons too. Likewise there are no medical grounds for doling out puberty blockers to anyone who asks for them. So we're in agreement then that children aren't old enough to change their bodies permanently, unless there are actual health & wellbeing grounds for it.

@Snoodsy

Eek am I wrong? Are they also housing men in women’s prisons in Washington? Sorry, not trying to derail the thread.
Sadly yes. This is from March 2021 (so 13 months ago), and more info has come out since.

report

A half dozen men have been transferred to theWashington Correctional Center for Woman, according to an employee at the facility.

(Continues)

The concern among staff and inmates is a risk of sexual assault. The employee cites a recent incident in which an inmate from a male facility raped a female in the women’s prison upon arrival. The transferred inmate, according to the employee, is incarcerated for a sex offense and has “fully functional male genitalia, a history of violence and sexual depravity in the community, and has been found guilty of sexual assault against other inmates while housed in the men’s facilities.”

“He is a proven sexual predator, having committed multiple crimes against women, yet the State of Washington had no problem moving him into a women’s facility and housing him with the most vulnerable in our population (our mental health unit),” the employee wrote.

(Continues)

“Word of the incident has inevitably traveled throughout the facility, causing much concern amongst both inmates and staff,” the employee said. “It demonstrated the state’s willingness to put the most vulnerable of our population in harm’s way, by locking them in a cell with a proven predator, with zero accountability or repercussions for the perpetrator.”

Among the inmates transferred to the women’s facility is Donna Perry, formerly known as Douglas Perry, who was convicted for killing three sex workers. Before being charged, Perryreportedly went to Thailandfor gender reassignment surgery. Prosecutors during the trial claimed that Perry had undergone the surgery to avoid suspicion for the killings.

Also recently transferred in was Hobby Bingham, now known as Princess Zoee Marie Andromeda Love, whowas convictedfor having sex with a 12-year-old girl. Bingham is alleged by the anonymous employee to have had sex with a female inmate at the women’s facility.

Snoodsy · 09/04/2022 05:41

Jaysus, I’m really behind. I just read this.

Other states pushing forward with broadly unpopular “gender identity” transfers include Connecticut and Massachusetts, World News Group said, as well as New Jersey, which moved a biologically male inmate to a female facility in Pennsylvania last week.

This is outrageous! Do any of these brain trusts wonder why there are only men wanting to be with women and not the other way around? FFS!

In the US, California is the only state that allows men In women’s prisons, and yes women have been assaulted by those “vulnerable” males. California is extremely leftist. As for school age sports it’s a state by state basis, depending on if a Republican or a Democrat runs the state.

Of course, Biden is hell bent on changing all that. His speech was absolutely awful, very pro-men and anti-women. Obama also tried to allow men into women’s prisons but his order was rescinded. Hopefully the same happens with Biden.

MangyInseam · 09/04/2022 03:40

I mean BJ isn’t the kind of guy who has a great estime and respect for women does he? We just have to look at the way he is in his personal life to know he has very little respect for women.

Given that no one here (I imagine) is likely to date BJ, shag him, have their daughters or friends do any of those things, his personal life and whether he respects women in it is kind of irrelevent.

It's entirely possible for political figures to create a good social policy even when some, or many, of their personal attitudes are shit. Maybe it seems like that shouldn't be the case, but evidently it is.

Are the Tories likely to "go back" on this issue? Well, they are going to have to go one way or another. At this point it seems unlikely they would go the other way, it's no easier and offers them no advantage.

Floisme · 08/04/2022 18:22

Johnson has found a weak spot and he's probing, as would any politician with half a brain. Labour could put a stop to it any time they wanted by giving a straight answer to a straight question. If it's such a small issue why won't they?

Fairislefandango · 08/04/2022 18:07

Please don’t make out they are in any way honourable or competent. They aren’t. It’s a single issue thing and nothing more. Says more about you than them to be honest.

What says more about me? I can't stand Boris, I haven't said I'm going to vote for the Tories, and I certainlydidn'tsay anything about them being honourable.. I have voted Lib Dem or Labour in past elections. I was merely trying to point out the foolishness of the frequently repeated idea on this thread that a party deciding that it might help them to win an election if they state something which they a) know perfectly well to be true and b) know that the majority of voters agree with is somehow a bad thing.

Tangerinedreamisatheme · 08/04/2022 17:58

@Fairislefandango Apart from their new found respect for the female sex are the tories fit to govern ? 12 years and still pretty shite at it no ?
Please don’t make out they are in any way honourable or competent. They aren’t. It’s a single issue thing and nothing more. Says more about you than them to be honest.

Fairislefandango · 08/04/2022 17:11

Precisely. No they aren't!

MsTSwift · 08/04/2022 16:40

Agree with that summary. Plus if the Labour leadership are so weak that they can be persuaded to literally parrot an obvious untruth to appease a vocal minority which the majority of voters disagree with them - frankly are they even fit to govern?

Fairislefandango · 08/04/2022 15:47

I can't believe people are still blustering that 'He's only doing this to win votes'!

Party A: Realises that most people do not in fact believe that TWAW. Realises that a hell of a lot of women are very angry. Realises that your average person on the street is not, in fact, very woke and does not want to vote for a party which is. Is largely made up of politicians who know perfectly well what a woman is, and would be genuinely relieved to be able to admit this. Has realised that making unpopular policies to appease a vocal minority will not do them any favours. Has realised that 'no debate' is over and which way the wind is blowing, and has therefore decided it's a good idea (and politically expedient) to tell the actual truth about this.

Party B: Doggedly ignores all of this, pretend they don't know which way the wind is blowing. Unconvincingly pretend they don't know TW are not W, blundering and stammering over definitions in interviews. Pretend they think it's bigoted to believe what the overwhelming majority of humans believe - i.e. that TW are not W. Pursue an ideology which not only their potential voters, but also no doubt they themselves don't really actually believe.

Signalbox · 08/04/2022 14:59

It doesn’t matter.

It kind of does matter. You are saying that BJ is lying (to get votes) about thinking that sex matters in sports / services for women and that children shouldn't be making irreversible decisions about their bodies.

I think it's more likely than not that he isn't lying about this issue. BJ is obviously keen to get votes but that doesn't necessarily mean that BJ is lying about this.

Mixed sex wards have existed like forever now and it didn’t bother him. I mean BJ isn’t the kind of guy who has a great estime and respect for women does he? We just have to look at the way he is in his personal life to know he has very little respect for women.

I don't think this is true. I've recently worked in a hospital. Generally wards were single sex. There were exceptions (if it was really busy, AMU, ICU, wards that have side rooms).

So why does he bother now? Because of the elections. What his beliefs are aren’t important. He is too much of an opportunist.

Perhaps because women are getting noisier and campaigning successfully. Perhaps because a woman was recently raped on a ward and then the investigation was impeded due to the ward saying there was no man present. There could be numerous reasons why a politician decides to change their priorities on something. But frankly I don't really care why Boris said what he said. The fact is, the Conservative government are unlikely to bring in self ID and are likely to limit the conversion therapy ban to gay conversion therapy until after the Cass review is completed. Labour have promised to do the opposite.

Bringing it back to is he a TRA is simplistic as if all decisions could be brought back to a simple black and white equation TRA or not TRA. That’s not life. And that’s certainly not politics, even less so the current conservative government.

Yup to say that BJ always lies and therefore is lying on this issue for only opportunistic reasons is very black and white.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 08/04/2022 14:01

@MsTSwift

They are so cynical and have seen the daily Mail comments sections with literally thousands of ticks on this.

That said I agree with them and reluctantly would vote for them as I cannot vote labour or Lib Dem as o usually do this is a hill I will die on.

So does that make Labour credulous, gullible or just plain old wrong?

In this I will accept the cynicism.

bellinisurge · 08/04/2022 13:53

"Mixed sex wards have existed like forever now and it didn’t bother him. "

No, they really haven't. In fact , they absolutely didn't exist. Then they turned up in the 70s/80s - nothing to do with TRA just saving money/treating patients like drones. Then they were got rid of again. And now these gobshites are trying to bring them back

TheNameOfTheRoses · 08/04/2022 13:31

Fwiw I think Labour is crap at handling the situation too.

TheNameOfTheRoses · 08/04/2022 13:30
**@Signalbox* no I don’t believe a word of what BJ says because he has a tack record of looking very convincing but then changing his mind. Or saying Yes I’ll do that and then introduce little bits in the so called legislation that change it all. Or just not doing it all.*

So do you think BJ is a closet TRA?
' a man who waits to see the way the crowd is running then dashes in front and says - Follow me! '. Michael Heseltine on Boris Johnson. But the Tories will have done their own polling , so at least the crowd is running towards fairness and common sense.

And was Jeremy Corbyn the man who stood there with a loud speaker demanding that the crowd run towards them?

Boris is an opportunist, but he has at least spotted this opportunity.

SelfPortraitWithPterodactyl · 08/04/2022 12:16

That made me laugh a lot. Are you Simon Edge? Grin

NotBadConsidering · 08/04/2022 11:10

I don’t even think it’s that complicated. It’s not about seeing which way opinion is blowing.

[invokes Sir Humphrey Appleby voice]

“Prime Minister, some people think the Earth is flat.”

“Hmm, yes, I have heard that.”

“We want you to say you believe the Earth is an oblate spheroid.”

[Looks up] “Sorry, what?”

“It means round, Prime Minister.”

“Ah, I see. But why do I need to come out and say that, it’s just bonkers that people think it’s flat, why does the prime minister need to say it isn’t?”

“Because Labour are saying it is and want to bring in law that makes us all say it.”

“Really? Have they lost the plot?”

“Completely, Prime Minister, and while it may seem a little…obvious to say the Earth is round, we think you may as well, given the Leader of the Opposition has completely lost his mind on such a simple matter.”

“Oh very well, I can’t believe I have to, isn’t this something astronomers should be doing? Tis so silly. Here I am, trying to convince everyone I’m not just a populist reactionary, and when something all of the population actually believes comes along, me saying something just seems like I’m saying it to be reactionary!”

“Well, it is a consequence of our strategy, Prime Minister, but we are talking easy votes here.”

“Oh very well, get me on Sky News then and I’ll state the bloody obvious. Crumbs, aren’t we doing well though! All this stuff about parties, Covid and whatnot, and old chum Kier is talking daft! I do tend to come out of things okay don’t I?”

“Yes, Prime Minister….”

@Ereshkigalangcleg

I'm actually getting suspicious of all the alleged labour supporters trying to shame us into voting labour. They must know that calling someone names and implying stupidity will not work. Is it secretly so we vote Tory because they really want us to? Why?

It's odd, isn't it? I think some, like many Labour supporters up to and including politicians and staff, like name calling and sneering more than getting elected.

When you have no arguments to back up a claim then sneering, bullying and attempted shaming is what you fall back on. Why Labour don't understand this I fail to understand. But as we see played out on this and other threads, they still do it.

But all he said was (paraphrasing) women are ahf and require sex segregated spaces.

He didnt announce any new laws or anything. If he goes back on this we will wring our hands and start emailing them to change back.

@Signalbox

Just look at the latest if LGBT rights. What he do? Why do you think he did a couple of U turns and the hid stuff within the legislation?

I think he did a u turn because he was presented with convincing evidence that conversion therapy for youth with gender dysphoria is potentially a bad idea and it’s better to wait for the Cass review before legislating. It’s quite straight forward. I believed him because what he said makes sense.

Stonewall et al are furious because they only subscribe to the "confirmatory" model. They are against any discussion based counselling. This is why the legislation has been halted. Many Physcologists were concerned they could be sued for doing their job. It isn't hard to put some more detail in, and that will be done I am sure, but the pause was required. You can be sure that even when it comes back with amendments, the activists will accuse the government of denying children's rights to gender affirmation.
