See I just have no respect for the open intellectual dishonesty in this. Its contemptible.

and it should have been robustly challenged, as it would be with anyone capable of impartial and critical thought.

"Hang on Stella.... a woman is an adult human female, and some are born, and some become? Who becomes an adult human female other than a baby girl? Are you saying that a male can become a female? You're saying that a male person can change sex and become a biological human female?"

And that's putting aside the whole, "Stella, what do we call female babies and children?" (When we're not frantically pandering to a male centric and misogynist political lobby that is?)

Absolutely agree with PP: Freedom of belief is a thing. And duty of impartiality and representation in public office is also a thing. Anyone not able to manage the two professionally should not be in a public service role.

Billi, that's about as sensible as me suggesting to you that if you met a female for once in your life you'd see the light and turn rampantly pro female rights.

Rinse and repeat...

Palemoonlight · 09/01/2023 15:42

I did see a tweet by Stella where she said that "male" and "female" are not biological categories, and we need new words for those

Yeah she is thick. They are biological categories. They have been colonised by people for whom biological categories are a tiresome inconvenience to their concept.

If we created new words to replace the existing words for those biological categories, the ideologues would therefore need to colonise those too. And then craven people like Creasy would have to pretend those words were not biological categories either.

How do you become an adult human female without being born a human female? A human male can become a transwomen but he can never become an adult human female.

It's the assumption we're stupid which leaves me screaming FUCK OFF.

Ergo it's possible for a man to become an adult human female. 🙄

I think it's possible that Stella is a bit thick.

Odd that you would assume i haven't, Billi. Just paid a friend for some DIY he did as a favour - he transitioned a few months ago.

Stella Creasy studied at a college which only admitted women ten years before she went there. She was admirably tough on access to abortion for women in Northern Ireland. She forced through provision for maternity leave for herself, which was previously unheard of for MPs. She knows what a woman is. It is very interesting that a whole lot of future Cabinet ministers are suddenly trimming their sails on this. I find it quite hopeful.

SC is a true believer in gender identity. So sadly I don’t think this statement is any kind of shift from her. It’s baffling to me, but it is her genuine belief that TW are also adult human females. So she doesn’t see the two parts of her statement as contradictory, or her work for women as being undermined by her position on gender identity. She just thinks we’re all old fashioned, limited in our thinking, and probably bigots.

Interested to see Ferring Pharmaceutical’s significant donation to the LibDems highlighted on this board. Anyone know if similar donations have been made directly to the Labour Party? Maybe provision of (free) researchers/junior staff to MP’s was considered sufficient/sufficiently under the radar? <rifles through Denton report to see what tactics were recommended>

Trans people are simultaneously so high a proportion of the population that we're assured we have shared changing rooms with them without ever noticing, and yet so rare than it's assumed (when convenient) that no-one on this board can have ever met anyone who was trans.

This latter is particularly absurd when so many of us have teenagers, and so come into contact with teens who identify as trans!

@Billi77

Stella Creasey has met trans people. I suggest you do the same

Several women here have been married to are are still married to trans people. Maybe you should read about their experiences.

Theeyeball you are correct and clearly have a great memory Grin

We have to operate on the basis that any politician like Creasy, Nandy, Rayner, Sobel etc., no matter how they moderate things they have said in the past to try to cleverly placate us, they believe a male person can become a woman and they believe that should make them indistinguishable from a natal female. That’s their belief. They have a right to it.

This.

But they have also shown themselves to be dogmatic and unable to support my right not to share their faith. And that I cannot accept.

I do not mind whether my party MP is Muslim, Christian, or Baha'i, but she or he must be able to represent me as an atheist voter if I complain that a faith is being forced on me.

LilithRises · 02/04/2022 00:22

Stella Creasy is my local MP. I have emailed a few times regarding issues pertaining to the Equality Act (sex based rights) and also my concerns about lobby groups redefining homosexuality to mean same gender rather than same sex attraction. I also wrote regarding the public consultation on banning conversion therapy, outlined my concerns, and suggested it would be a good idea to wait for the outcome of the independent Cass Report.. Unfortunately, despite being my local MP, I have not received any response or reply to date, which I find somewhat disappointing to say the least

You mean the people I used to work with weren't trans? Oh my. How transphobic.
mudgetastic · 01/04/2022 21:47

No one is born adult

WelcomeMarch · 01/04/2022 21:43

Why on earth would you assume we haven’t met any trans people? We just know they cannot change sex, only whatever they personally mean by gender.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 01/04/2022 21:40

Now you're being silly Billi.

ThatsNotItAtAll · 01/04/2022 19:07

All humans are born, and all girl babies who survive to adulthood become women - maybe that's what she meant...

SquishySquirmy · 01/04/2022 18:59

No one is born a woman though, surely?
Female children aren't women!
Did she really say that straight after "women are adult human females" ???
Not just confused about the meaning of the word "woman" but confused about the meaning of the word "adult" too!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/04/2022 18:53

It's a bad faith reading of Simone de Beauvoir, I think.
