Starmer: biology matters

“Biology matters, and for the vast majority of women that’s what matters. Nobody is quarrelling with that. But there’s no denying there are also a small number of people who struggle with their gender identity, and they go through a difficult time...”

Went on to say that three times. Almost exactly what Rachel Reeves said: “the vast majority of women” - in other words, there are women who are not female.

Robotic performance aside, it’s at least better.

He looked like he was on pain of death not to stray from the prescribed text which made him look like a duplicitous idiot - pretty sure he's not actually an idiot...

Abhannmor · 01/04/2022 16:38

Keir Theory is tacking this way because of the May elections. But this madness has some way to go

Pixiedust1234 · 01/04/2022 16:30

And please define a real woman. Starmer and his cronies cant.

Pixiedust1234 · 01/04/2022 16:29

@Joystir59- what dv shelters? What dv support? "Women" with penises are in there stopping biological women from accessing them due to many reasons. Try reading a few threads here so you can understand that, right now, having the politicians and lawmakers know what an actual woman is the main and only goal. Got to get the foundations solid first before dealing with anything else and Kier and Co won't make them solid. Always voted Labour but not now. It socks.

FemaleAndLearning · 01/04/2022 15:39

I watched the full clip of Starmer. What an embarrassment. Yet again we are talking about women but he talks about gender identity for nearly 3 minutes. Just because he used the word biology does not mean he is a friend of women. Why can't they just be honest. A woman is an adult human female but we have a law that says men can be women so yes I this case some women can have a penis because we made a total cock up and didn't think this through.

Joystir59 · 01/04/2022 09:47
@Joystir59 - I don't really trust any of them but at least Boris knows what an adult female is. I don't want men gaslighting me that they are really women. #nothankyou
Regardless of how the Tories actually treat real women and children by forcing so many of them to live in poverty with inadequate maternity care food and fuel poverty, the lack of funding for dv services and shelters?

Thanks for the reports on this thread. We do ban PBPs on sight whatever the thread and whatever the topic. If you've ever any questions on that then do drop us a mail. Likewise, if you've got concerns about a post then hit report and we'll remove anything that breaks talk guidelines.

Given the comings and goings here tonight we think best we close this one until the morning.

Chrysanthemum5 · 31/03/2022 23:04

I do not care. That's it, lifelong Labour voter but I see now that they are as misogynistic as the tories. Really have no idea which party I will vote for now

FOJN · 31/03/2022 23:03

Gender critical women are enforcing gender stereotypes now? Words have no meaning at all now, do they?

TheABC · 31/03/2022 22:58

Ok, I will bite.

In Afghanistan, half of the population over the age of 11 are banned from attend school. How do the authorities tell which half should not attend? Can those people identify out of it in order to continue their education? If not, why not?

This TRA guff is a luxury belief in most of the world.

Crcohetmonster · 31/03/2022 22:51

@ScreamingMeMe that is class!

ScreamingMeMe · 31/03/2022 22:49

@Crcohetmonster

I did like the fact 1 day after the whole “ no one can define woman”, a Labour MP vowed to uplift women and girls. If they can’t define woman, who do they know who to uplift? Do they just go round lifting random people up?

What I really don't get is why, why do these men want to be women?? I don't get it. Womanhood is not a social construct, it is a biological state!
In terms of shared female experience, I have more in common with an ancient Celtic menstruating woman than a man from 2021! We all know this, though right?? It's like the Emperors New Clothes delusion.
But why? Why want to be us now? What is the point? Do they like the heels or the fancy dresses? Newsflash, I'm a woman and I don't even wear those!! I doubt there were men queuing up to be us when we couldn't vote or inherit property!
I find it all odd and deeply worrying.

Monitaurus · 31/03/2022 22:45

We know that there re many many girls who feel terrible about their sexed bodies but we do not think that they need to undergo radical changes to their bodies or name them as boys or men. Time for clarity...I think some may be getting there.

TotalRhubarb · 31/03/2022 22:43

Crochet has it, I reckon. You get a D- in biology and get sent here for basic Biology 101.

Fifteentoes · 31/03/2022 22:42

@Cayeli3

I think I understand where you're coming from. But isn't the problem that social issues related to biology have been foisted upon women by forces beyond their control?

In a world where there was no rape, no sexual harassment, no discrimination on the basis of sex in work and career advancement, no abuse within marriages and relationships, I doubt women would be so worried about protecting the exclusivity of female spaces. But these things exist, and not because women want them to exist - so women then have to demand what is needed to protect themselves from them.

It's then a bit disingenuous to pretend that everyone can just muck in in a big sex-and-gender-free-happy-go-round where biological sex doesn't matter, isn't it?

It obviously matters to the men who commit rape.

OhLordyWhatNow · 31/03/2022 22:41

I thought biology education was generally a myth and frowned upon in the US? Isn't it more like extended bible classes in a lot of states?

Crcohetmonster · 31/03/2022 22:36

@MrsWooster I do. It’s whoever finished their biology homework last gets a go.

MrsWooster · 31/03/2022 22:35

@TotalRhubarb

I didn’t realise we’d be having the sixth form debating society in tonight.
Do we think there’s a rota??
ginghamstarfish · 31/03/2022 22:34

'Transitioning' in this context does not and cannot mean actually changing sex. It means taking actions in an attempt to change how others see you, which apparently can range from just saying something to taking hormones or having surgery. None of this things make a person change sex, because it's not possible.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 31/03/2022 22:32

to be fair, I’m invested in seeing what number cayeli we get up to. It’s like a toddler having a tantrum when they can’t get the blocks in the holes and their mum is ignoring them

Up to 3 already

Goodness

ScreamingMeMe · 31/03/2022 22:31

@Cayeli3

“Biological sex matters - especially to (biological) women who are vulnerable to aggressive or predatory men.”

This is called a sex stereotype.

That is called a fact, based on evidence.
teawamutu · 31/03/2022 22:31

@OhLordyWhatNow

Stella Creasy MP was on Politics Live on BBC today saying that Woman = Adult Human Female, but watered the effect down by adding that "most women have vaginas and cervices but some have penises because they were born men but have become women". 🤔. She seemed confused.

www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0015y98/politics-live-31032022

They were discussing the cycling 🚴 at about 23:45 mins in.

She's one of the big disappointments. She clearly doesn't believe it for a second.

Can't wait to see what pious guff La Nandy comes out with.

OldCrone · 31/03/2022 22:28

Because that's her identity. Identity is not in any way dictated by stereotypes, nor by physical characteristics. No one is being put on a pathway to medical transition because they "want short hair and football boots", medical transition is the means to address physical dysphoria. Nothing to do with stereotypes.

You're talking about two different things here - people with an 'identity' and people who want to make a physical medical transition.

What is the identity based on in the case of someone who doesn't want to medically transition? Why does this person have a 'woman' identity and not a 'man' identity? What is the difference between a 'woman' identity and a 'man' identity?

If a person doesn't want to undergo a medical transition and doesn't have dysphoria about their sexed body, what makes them trans?
