To JHB: “Men have penises. Women have vaginas. Here ends the biology lesson. Some people have gender dysphoria and transition to another gender, and we should respect that.”

Roughly what he said.

JHB stunned.

As for Little Orange Juice guy, he’s not coming across as rational at all these days.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 30/03/2022 13:51

No man should be given a special certificate to pretend he is a woman. Self ID is bullshit and making it as easy as getting a bus pass to change legal sex is ridiculous.

I am now a full on GRA atheist.

Thanks to the TRAs for that.

WinterTrees · 30/03/2022 13:48

It won't win me back either Terfydactyl

If the divide and conquer theory proves to be true, it'll be like trying to ride two horses at the same time.

Labour have shown us who they are and who they represent. It's going to take a lot more than basic KS1 biology to give me any hope that they'll actively protect women's rights and uphold safeguarding procedures.

Terfydactyl · 30/03/2022 13:37

@WinterTrees

I wonder if we're going to see a more 'divide and conquer' approach? A few key players like Streeting talking about biology, qualifying it with support for transpeople, Rosie Duffield potentially being brought cautiously back in to the very edge of the labour fold, while the rest of the party (Rayner, Nandy and co) hold the TWAW hardline. The aim being to offer enough crumbs for left wing women who despise the tories to feel able to vote Labour again?
This might be the aim. But for me at least it won't work. I now realise women have been bottom of the pile for so long that we require much more than just acknowledgement that we exist and need single sex spaces, I think it should be written into law now that those few single sex spaces are sacrosanct. I also think that more toilets are needed anyway, I actually think a third space is a good idea and necessary for various people, not solely trans people. If a party clings to twaw even if only a few of the MPs then I will reserve my vote for whichever party states in the manifesto twatw and women ahf among other issues of course.
Beamur · 30/03/2022 13:24

I think the ' does a woman have a penis' question is proving the public undoing of one politician after another at the moment. They don't want to say 'no' but the general public are hearing the squirming and non- answering and probably wondering why. Because for the majority of people this is not a complicated question.

tabbycatstripy · 30/03/2022 13:22

Exactly, Abhannmor. He couldn’t have been kinder, couldn’t have been more pro-trans in his full answer without lying. You’re only ‘pro-trans’ to the activist left wing if you’re happy to tell lies.

OP posts:
Abhannmor · 30/03/2022 13:15

He's getting mobbed on Twitter. I went over to offer a bit of support. Even though he was no friend in the past. I wonder if Labour's own polling is telling them what a vote loser gender woo is ?

WinterTrees · 30/03/2022 13:14

Excellent post Backlash

Cuck00soup · 30/03/2022 13:08

Another news story from today that shows how important ambition is to male MPs.

At least I can take heart that this one can see which way the wind is blowing. Which is better than I need to save my own skin.

BacklashBacklash · 30/03/2022 13:06

No idea where "ingredients" came from. 😬

tabbycatstripy · 30/03/2022 13:06

‘But yes, it's women who have the problem for being concerned about male genitals. And it's males getting all coy when they're brought up in conversation, and saying they really shouldn't be discussed. He's a nasty little man, that one.’

Yes. This is, ‘How dare traumatised women mention the mighty penis?’

OP posts:
BacklashBacklash · 30/03/2022 13:05

Lol at Owen Jones saying Wes Street ingredients should have said, "I'm not having a tawdry discussion about strangers' genitals on your radio show."

The homage a lot of men pay to their own dicks. They bombard women with unwanted photos of them/texts about them, they graffiti them all over the place, they go on pornhub and search for Ukrainian women being raped (or other female victims who've been in the news recently) so they can wank to it, they commit sexual crimes with their dicks to the extent that 1 in 5 women in England and Wales have been raped. And who can forget that thread where women said how old they were when first flashed at by an adult man?
But yes, it's women who have the problem for being concerned about male genitals. And it's males getting all coy when they're brought up in conversation, and saying they really shouldn't be discussed. He's a nasty little man, that one.

I'd very happily stop being concerned about dicks if men would stop committing crimes that involve their dicks.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 30/03/2022 12:49

The issue is there cannot be any 'compromise' that doesn't remove women's rights or boundaries. There is no debate if women are silenced by threats.

No man should be given a special certificate to pretend he is a woman. Self ID is bullshit and making it as easy as getting a bus pass to change legal sex is ridiculous.

How the fuck can you protect women and girls if you can't exclude men from our sex class.

The problem is that TRA's have been given everything they have demanded, no compromise. Self entitled aggressive men, given the green light to attack and punish women who dare to say no with impunity.

They want the law changed so we must all pretend they are women and that it will be illegal to state otherwise or challenge any part of their behaviours.

All these politicians can fuck off. It's just lip service and distraction. Getting the women to calm down whilst doing deals to fuck us over behind closed doors.

MangyInseam · 30/03/2022 12:33

It's possible that like a lot of TWAW supporters, he really believed all the "born in the wrong body" stuff and that they were really people who were analogous to intersex people. I know that seems clearly unsupported to most of us here, but there are a lot of people who really think that is where the science stands.

The penny might have have dropped for him that it's not really quite like that.

BettyFilous · 30/03/2022 12:29

@RoyalCorgi

I'm convinced that Streeting's unequivocal statement about men having penises, women having vaginas is entirely based on pragmatism. He doesn't care about women and was previously part of the Terfs out faction.

He has realised, however, that a) every other politician to answer JHB's question has looked immensely foolish and b) the general public is not quite as on board with the loony wing of the trans agenda as he might have hoped.

And that's a good thing. I doubt he's sincere, but he has seen which way the wind is blowing.

That’s my take on Wes’s change of heart too. You can almost smell the political ambition emanating from his recent statements.
DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 30/03/2022 12:21

@Abhannmor

He could make himself useful and stand up for Rosie Duffield and others.
Doubt it, he’s still a misogynist, but he’s a misogynist that can see the tide might be turning and he’d better get ahead of it.
Manderleyagain · 30/03/2022 12:16

I remembered that we'd talked about hid various statements on this before so had a look.

He obviously has a clear view of how this discussion is looking from the outside and he is a very good communicator himself.

Somewhat shifting sands on this issue but there's something to work with there if he does engage in it properly.

This February - Rosie diffield's posts indefensible
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4470824-Wes-Streeting-on-Rosie-Duffield

Back in January slightly more sensible?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4467462-Wes-streeting-interview

Also January- a bit mixed but some sensible points
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4447315-Wes-Streeting-on-trans-rights

But hrs changed his tune alot.

Back in 2018 he was involved k talking about reviewing thd ea. Interesting thread, though he didn't go I the end to the meeting.

"Wes Streeting is a member of the notorious "Labour Against Transphobia" group, which was that group you will all remember who in January created and published a "hit-list" of GC women to be harassed out of the Labour Party, and which successfully got several women suspended for saying "women don't have XXXXX"."

From a thread back I 2017
"Caroline Lucas was one of the MPs who signed the early day motion demanding all of the Maria Miller trans report's recommendations were implemented.

That would have included the removal of sex exemptions in the EA.

Fellow MPs who signed it include Stephen Doughty and Wes Streeting

Anyway that'll have tk do for digging through advanced search!

Linguini · 30/03/2022 12:11

I see it as a slight glimmer of distant hope.... Thanks a bit Wes.

Meanwhile, back in the real world we're having to deal with people with penises in women's prison, in women's swimming, in women's cycling, in our rape crisis centres, homeless shelters, in our toilets and winning business awards meant for women.

People like Wes Streeting who gleefully allowed all this to happen can fuck off until they "repent motherfucker". I mean, completely and unequivocally apologize and correct the indefensible until they get my vote.

WinterTrees · 30/03/2022 11:55

OJ is like a teenager. Fun sex for beautiful young people ('sucks cock for socialism!' emblazoned across a pair of pert breasts) is cool and great. Middle-aged women talking about safeguarding and sexual boundaries is eeeeeeuuuwww grosssss shutup mum.

tabbycatstripy · 30/03/2022 11:45

Yes, that OJ. We can’t talk about strangers’ genitals (even when we’re not, we’re talking about the human body) but we can talk about sex acts ‘cos it’s funny when he does it.

Or something.

OP posts:
ScreamingMeMe · 30/03/2022 11:43

@tabbycatstripy

OJ says discussions about human biology are “tawdry”. He says sex jokes, on the other hand, are fine. The more the better.

So now the basic content of every sex education class in the country (male bodies look like this, female bodies look like this) is morally impure, but when it comes to talking about sex acts, the whole world of crude humour just opens right up. After all, we wouldn’t want to be accused of prudishness.

Owen Jones who promoted a "Will suck dick for socialism" t-shirt, and defends men wanking at work.

He's got some weird moral values, that lad.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 30/03/2022 11:43

Wes the Weathercock. Lovin' it.

Blogblogblogblog · 30/03/2022 11:31

Please let this be the turning point with labour so I can vote for them again! It def seems there’s been a shift in the Labour Party over the past couple of weeks.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/03/2022 11:28

The aim being to offer enough crumbs for left wing women who despise the tories to feel able to vote Labour again?

They are some very soggy, trampled on crumbs.

tabbycatstripy · 30/03/2022 11:22

Winter:

Possibly. I’ll never vote for them again anyway. (Send in the clowns. Where are the clowns...?)
