She expressed sympathy for a woman who has suffered pretty horrendous online abuse from a number of males, including one who had a conviction for attacking a man with a golf club, and then made 'jokes' towards her about playing golf.

I disagree with Caroline Farrow on most issues but that doesn't mean I can't think that the way she has been treated is bad.

This sort of thing is really basic human social interaction, you do realise that don't you?

Isn't what Putin has done here just an extension of the Russian troll farms? Russia have their eye on everything in the West, including the hottest social topics and the ones that cause the most division. They then deploy stuff online related to those topics (eg. US Election etc)

Do People really think that Putin invoked JK Rowling because he actually sympathises with her, or gives a shit about anything she has said? Or is it because he knows that those key words 'JK Rowling' from him, would immediately cause a frenzy, which it has? And the bloody thickos have walked right into it!

Do men like Owen Jones and James Felton really think that feminists are going to think 'shit, Putin said JRK's name, I am immediately going to change my mind on all these things: puberty blockers for any child that wants them! Are we really going down this route of guilt by association? Do we need to start listing all the links that a lot of trans activists have to less than salubrous activities. Are all transgender people and activists to be tarred by the activities of people Gordon Pike, who helped formulate the policy which allows male prisoners into the Scottish prison female estate?
Surely nobody would be stupid enough to say that JKR is a despot like Putin or a lackey of the fundamentalist right, nor would anybody be so shallow to accuse the average trans person of behaving in less than moral ways, merely because their cause has been hijacked by evil people?

She sympathised, in four words, with Farrow for receiving misogynistic abuse. It's telling that so many activists were more ready to abuse Farrow for being a woman than for her far right views.

Is sympathising with someone for the abuse they get online the same as being "very friendly with"? Because there's a whole load of dodginess that the TRAs are aligning themselves with if so.

Feminists have always been accused of aligning with the right wing. In the 70s and 80s Andrea Dworkin and Catherine mackinnon endured a lot of criticism from the political left because of their opposition to pornography. Because the right wing didn’t like porn very much, these radical feminists were said to be allies of conservatives.

The problem with this argument is the motivations of the two groups are completely different. The American right wanted to ban pornography because it was immoral, because it went against their religion, because it led men astray. The rad fems wanted to ban porn not to uphold some patriarchal standard of femininity, but because it was harmful to women.

Feminism sometimes aligns with right or left ideology but for entirely different reasons. In this case , Putin doesn’t like gender or trans rights because it threatens his patriarchal, male dominated view of society. It is destabilising and corrupting, in his eyes. But rad fems dislike gender ideology because it harms women- because it undermines women’s rights and causes harm to women and girls (such as women losing in sports to males, rape victims having to attend group therapy with males etc).

Male rapists are in women's prisons, women have been murdered and beaten, women's meetings have been attacked by angry mobs, women are getting death and rape threats, women are losing their jobs. 2 major violent incidents against women in the last few days in Manchester. I'm a carer and not only have transactivists gone after someone with the same name as me to try to get her sacked on several different occasions they have even gone after one of my clients. I suppose it's a get-out clause: 'I didn't do it Miss, it was that big boy Putin.'
