Twitter is awash with blue ticks doing lots of “JKR is on a level with putin” and sky news have helpfully Hmm amplified it

It stokes outrage and brings people together on social media to have a good rage.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/03/2022 11:57

Of course, some of them are very well acquainted with the fact that people don't always believe what they say. They've just decided that amplifying Putin's message is a small price to pay for scoring points against a political enemy. Not much to be said about that contingent, at least not within guidelines. Irredeemable human beings.

I think this is the key point. Many of these people have no motivation other than attention seeking and personal interest. They don't care if it's true, just that some people believe it.

Absurdle · 28/03/2022 11:26

It's very strange to me that TRAs cannot see the following:

  1. Far from amplifying her message, Putin has done JKR no favours with his comments
  2. They are the ones amplifying Putin's message.

Sometimes it seems that a lot TRAs don't understand that people don't believe what they say 100% of the time - that's why so many of them are convinced they "pass." But you''d think even such painfully naive people might understand the concept that a bloodthirsty dictator could be scheming and manipulative.

@Ereshkigalangcleg

I've no idea. But I've seen equally batshit posts from nonentities get similarly large numbers of likes. If you are saying that it might be Twitter manipulation, I think that's entirely possible.
Yes I'm thinking bots or paid-for likes. Why is another question!
Absurdle · 28/03/2022 09:30

@ScreamingMeMe

I noticed something weird with this tweet from a transwoman claiming to have a period. They have 2650 followers, but over 90k likes on this tweet. Someone is obviously boosting it, but who and why?
My suspicion is that they bought the likes on it. Guessing the $/female attention ratio on this is very high compared with other methods of purchasing.

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Possibly by people with large followings.
Nah it doesn't add up. Even celebrities don't usually get 90k+ likes. And why would large account retweet something like that?
Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/03/2022 08:56

I think we've dealt with the absurd nonsense here in a way that it's very hard to do on Twitter.

Helleofabore · 28/03/2022 08:40

Maybe the bigots in here will finally start to realise what side of history they are on when even Putin agrees with them….

Loving the fact that someone literally razzed the thread with that gem. Or jizzed. Or whatever.

Probably came straight from twitter all excited to get one over the MN crowd with it. Not realising they really do not see the absurdity of that statement.

Imagine thinking you are the height of cleverness telling posters, the majority women, off with that.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/03/2022 08:27

I imagine it got retweeted a lot.

Maybe work on how to think, rather than what to think, in future. It'll be more interesting and potentially more than one micron deep.

So much this. Well put.

I have neither the time, nor the crayons.

But luckily plenty of PP have.

Interesting username you've got there.

Your post: not so much.

DrSbaitso · 26/03/2022 20:19

Putin knows exactly what the hot button issues are and how to use them to sow discord. You people yammering on about Rowling must be like Putin because they both know what a woman is have been owned in the most embarrassing way and sadly we are all going to suffer for it. Congratulations on doing Putin's work for him. Lenin had a term for you lot.

As it says on my Leeds Spinners T shirt “ Right Side of History, my arse!!
Maybe a better metaphor would be The Right ArseCheek of History.

Theresa May wanted to bring in self ID, therefore you and all the other people who agree with her on that caused the Windrush scandal.

Always ready to challenge my thinking. Can you tell me exactly on which points Putin agrees with JKR and the feminists here? Do you have links to where he's expressed concern about the erosion of women's rights? The safeguarding of children? Protecting single sex spaces?

Because surely you wouldn't take the propaganda spread by a psychotic despot at face value without looking at what he might be trying to achieve with it, would you? You do know that power-crazed warmongering dictators aren't always scrupulously honest, don't you?

nepeta · 26/03/2022 18:42

Hitler was a vegetarian, I am a vegetarian, therefore I am like Hitler?
Hitler praised his mother in Das Kampf, I think my mother is fantastic, therefore I am like HItler?

NitroNine · 26/03/2022 18:39

“The right side of history…”
TBH I have concluded there is just a line, purely because this concept is so utterly one-dimensional Grin

No bigots on here, just women completely fed up with misogyny and male entitlement wrapped up in dresses. Frankly I don’t care if you think I am a bigot.

Did you believe Putin when he said he was going to invade Ukraine to stop the Nazis? If not, why believe a word he's saying now?

Have you ever thought he mentioned JKR because she is publicly donating millions to Ukraine through her charities? No?

He's played a blinder TBH, he's got all the holier than thou idiots focusing on exactly what he wanted them to. He knows how to wind up the west and he doesn't even need to invade us.

Can I just ask, because I've never understood this bit - what shape do you think 'history' is? You are presumably positing that it has two sides, yes? So is it a regular symmetrical shape, or do you see it as a kind of four dimensional geometric anomaly that is somehow only two-sided? Is it fixed?

I'm presuming you're positioning yourself as the 'goodie' on the 'right side of history', yes? Jolly well done, that must have been a difficult thinking process you went through to get there!

And when is the point where we stop and decide 'well, that bit was right and that bit was wrong, so clearly history was a rhombic prism that got a bit wobbly in the middle at this precise period of time'?

Lastly - how will we know when we get there? I do look forward to reaching the apex of history, it will be fun to look back and see everything laid out clearly, in this best of all possible worlds, won't it!
