New business on the block selling organic tampons via post and so on, called Yoppie. This is their instagram.

Text of instagram post:

'Most bleeders know how they are impacted by their period, but unfortunately aren't in touch with their feelings & symptoms in the other phases of their cycle. We are here to change that.'

I just can't stop laughing at this one. Grin

@Seema1234

**I myself am a woman. But I understand many of our customers are not Grin. Er, you're selling tampons so most of your customers are women. I think Danielle needs a biology lesson.
You may as well argue over religion, I'm afraid. Sorry! You're using the word woman as it was always used, and is still used today by the majority of the English speaking world: adult human female/female adult human/female adult.

Until recently, the only part of the definition that was at all contentious was the adult.

Daniella hangs out in the circle where woman= a type of gender identity. From her point of view, she would say most of her customers are women, some are men, and some are outside the gender binary, but all are female.

However, this creates a gap in language when you want to talk about the needs of adult female humans, and leaves her without a decent noun to address her customers by. It's either go full Ferengi, or use something else, which is where "bleeders" came in.

How do I know this? Because I used to be "Daniella" and used to insist that female humans could be men and male humans could be women.

@Blackandwhitehorse

I have foolishly got into a debate with someone who can’t define trans or woman but also just completely mis represents my comments. She can’t seem to take in that I also agree with abolishing sex based stereotypes- so exhausting!
If we abolish biological sex as a determinant of what a woman is, then what will take its place? I see no alternative to sex-based stereotypes there. Women will then be all feminine people (passive, submissive, emotional and nurturing) or people who are concerned with their appearance or people who care about children and so on.

PS I’m currently taking a dump, and thus experiencing complete clarity.

Have a nice day.

Thank you for sharing 😆

Because they don’t actually think. Lack of critical thought and blind obedience.

Kennykenkencat · 17/03/2022 13:49

I think in companies rushing to be inclusive they are doing the very opposite by excluding any one who doesn’t come under the minority tag

Sorry not read the pps, this has probably been done to death, but;

'Most shitters know how they are impacted by taking a shit, but unfortunately aren't in touch with their feelings & symptoms when they’re not taking a shit. We are here to change that.'

See? Completely legit!

StellaAndCrow · 17/03/2022 12:19

@Fairislefandango

Except that one poster who is going along preaching at everyone that it’s more inclusive to pander to the tiny minority who prefer to be called bleeders than the huge majority who prefer to retain their fucking dignity!

Yes, there's always one. Sometimes a lot more than one. And look at her picture- perfectly womanly-looking woman. But no, she's non-binary, because that makes her more speshull I expect.

Presumably this is meant to be inclusive to transmen (females who want to be seen as male). Do we have any evidence that they want to be known as "bleeders"? It seems unlikely. And since when were people so concerned about women's feelings?

Or is it more about blurring the boundaries between men and women so men can say they're women, and don't get upset about not having the same biological functions?

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2022 12:10

Just looked at the comments

Hopefully they don’t just get excited by how many are commenting and being a ‘topic’ and actually read and take it in

But I doubt it as there is a huge amount of arrogance in ignoring women

IcakethereforeIam · 17/03/2022 11:48

DameHelena, yeah I know. The sun's shining, I'm trying to be positive today. That shirt though! Somebody ironed that!

DameHelena · 17/03/2022 11:35

@IcakethereforeIam

I saw this thread when it was first posted and didn't bother with it. I assumed it was another thread on the Always ad. and bleeder was being used sarcastically.

I'm trying to be open minded, clearly Ms Peri is a bright and driven woman. Perhaps a little bit privilidged and sheltered? I can't see anything wrong with trying to be inclusive, assuming it wasn't a cold blooded marketing decision. But there are ways of doing this without insulting the bulk of your target market.

Also, learn to recognise when you've got it wrong. There's no shame in apologising. Oh, and also learn to tuck your shirt in!

I can't see anything wrong with trying to be inclusive But she is ACTIVELY EXCLUDING women and girls. Who are her target market.

assuming it wasn't a cold blooded marketing decision.
You are charitable if you assume it wasn't, given a) the current climate around and high profile of this issue and b) the fact that she has pinned the only two (last time I looked) positive and supportive comments at the top of the comments feed...

The peak of it was the statement ‘my body […] is nonbinary. It happens to have a uterus but that has nothing to do with my sex or gender
I mean… where do you even start

Basic biology lesson?

scoobydontdothat · 17/03/2022 11:03

I have photosensitive epilepsy so had to scroll off their later post (which was equally offensive and nonsensical) to read the caption.

So tempted to write:

"I have photosensitive epilepsy so feel personally victimised that you chose to ostracise me and others like me with the literal violence of a flashing picture."

To show how utterly ridiculous the principle of berating people who don't change everything to suit a tiny minority of people is!

It's annoying for me when stuff is flashy and I have to look away / it triggers a fit. But you know why I accept it's going to happen at times? Because I am in a tiny minority of people and the world doesn't revolve around me!!!

That’s so 2018…

IcakethereforeIam · 17/03/2022 10:17

I wish she'd tuck her shirt in, or not. Just pick a side! Stupid bleeder.

ThatsNotMyGolem · 17/03/2022 10:13

The whole concept of "Yoppie" is tired and unnecessary. We all know what periods are, and what the stigma is that surrounds menstruation. Alienating the target audience is just further stupidity.

KittenKong · 17/03/2022 09:53

‘Ok let’s start small. What sex are you?’

@DameHelena

If you get into commenting and responding on Instagram (as I foolishly have), it's quite mind-blowing. One commenter keeps popping up over and over every time someone says something like 'women and girls have periods' to say 'not a woman or a girl but I have periods'. Anyone who questions it gets the response 'I have a non-binary body that happens to menstruate.' Confused I mean, it's not really worth getting into arguments with that sort of person is it?
I came across the same person. Honestly, I think she needs mental help, there’s something missing somewhere to need numerous responses in insta comments, whether that be positive or negative attention, by posting the same nonsensical thing over and over.
DameHelena · 17/03/2022 08:19

waterlego and Velvet, I can't help reading it like a 'gotcha' or 'I'm smarter than you'. I CBA looking at that person's comments any more, but I think terms like 'narrow-minded' and 'so many people are ignorant' are bandied about.

KittenKong · 17/03/2022 08:15

How can you attempt to recall a word that women have never ever used about themselves - a word that has been used by males as a derogatory term to insult and dehumanise women? She has taken this from men who seem to hate women.

No thanks, we don’t want ‘their’ words. We are not default males, or second class males, or males with smaller feet. She needs to have a serious rethink.

VelvetChairGirl · 17/03/2022 08:12

@KittenKong

She is Swedish I think and based in London. Speaks 4 or 5 languages fluently (her profile says). I thought Sweden was backing away from all this nonsense?
As I said I think she thinks she's cleaver and trying to reclaim words, using bleeder and you're bloody awesome.

its a marketing ploy thats backfired and shes far too up her own arse to say sorry, so she is trying to spin it as a gender ideology thing to play victim and label all the women who find being called a bleeder offensive as terfs.

she is a fucking idiot.
