Apologies for the lack of share token.

The Times (once again) has turned off comments Hmm

My god, that poor woman.That’s really hard to watch.

Despite all the gushing about how great and solid their relationship is, I didn’t see any evidence of Leenen’s love for Sarah at all, or even any real interest in her as a person. None. Not even a tiny bit. Leenen seemed to be totally wrapped up in Leenen, and Leenen’s journey. A strikingly cold person, was my impression.

How much cognitive dissonance Sarah must be living with, to convince herself this is OK and what she really wants. I presume her top in the “trans colours” was a deliberate choice as well - signalling allegiance, like the pronoun policing she does. It put me in mind of the greengrocer with his sign in the shop window in Václav Havel’s The Power of the Powerless essay.

I hope she has good people around her if/when it all comes tumbling down.

I'm short on patience with this sort of argument having done it thoroughly a week ago on Twitter and in the deleted thread. See my link up thread.

mirax · 20/03/2022 11:55

@tinselangel
I am offering my opinion on a specific woman based on my reading, not all women who find themselves in these difficult relationships. Dont put words in my mouth. It is not a very clever or honest tactic.

TinselAngel · 20/03/2022 11:05

@mirax

Sarah looks devastated and while I feel pity - that relationship is doomed given the man's smugness, oily self-confidence and the not so subtle ways he puts her down- I also want to scream in exasperation : what did you expect? When he stood next to you in a dress at the wedding? When you held his hand through the castration operation and you virtue signalled to all and sundry? And you know what? Lots of women, many of them liberal feminist, will have no qualms taking Sarah's place, making the same arguments Sarah made.
Yes all of this is always trans widows own fault Hmm
JoodyBlue · 20/03/2022 10:39

@Clymene I agree. It also reminded me a bit of the early interviews of Charles and Diana. The "whatever love is..." comment. The power imbalance is very clear.

flyingbuttress43 · 20/03/2022 10:37

Quite. It's Alexandra who is the bad person.

DryHeave · 20/03/2022 10:33

The bit that got me in the video was at 2:28 when he said Sarah "is not a bad person". I mean... WHAT.

Clymene · 19/03/2022 22:12

And sorry too. I thought they hadn't had that conversation but looks like they did. Terrible power imbalance there though

Clymene · 19/03/2022 22:10

@Zeugma

Apologies, I thought from the first article (now deleted, if that thread has gone?) that she knew he was planning to transition.

It was obvious from the original article that this was a grossly inequitable relationship, and from watching the interview it was clear that Sarah was very distressed. Entirely understandably.

I don't think she really understood what it entailed (from the original article):

Alexandra adds, “I remember then saying, ‘But I think it will go all the way.’ ” Sarah nods. “I thought about it for three months. I didn’t fully realise every implication. All I knew was that, whatever was going to happen, I wanted to be with her.”
I don't think

@Zeugma

Alexandra has a new girlfriend

Who would have predicted that Hmm

I feel very sorry for Sarah, but why she ever got involved in this situation in the first place - apparently knowing what it entailed - is something I find hard to understand.

She didn't know. She thought her husband was an occasional cross dresser. Have a read of this:

Couldn't watch it till the end. That poor woman just wanted to cry and was in desperate need of a hug. Whilst Alexandra was gloating on her happiness. It was uncomfortable.

Childrenofthestones · 19/03/2022 18:47

@JoodyBlue

I found Trisha's assertions incredibly saccharine. On what basis does she assume that 80 to 90% of regular marriages are dishonest. Utter drivel. Sarah looks devastated and her husband looks smug.
Puts me in mind of the cliche Tory MP and his wife at the garden gate for the press statement when he has been caught shagging again. I feel so desperately sorry for her.😟

lovelyweathertoday · 19/03/2022 18:00

Some of the men probably do.

Gosports · 19/03/2022 17:55

I read an article that said in their last few months at work Harold used to wear frilly underwear and stockings under his suit.

I have no idea what my fellow 40-something friends wear under their clothes but I’m willing to be few of them wear fancy pants and stockings to work. I know I don’t!

hedgehogger1 · 19/03/2022 17:47

Poor woman :(

Clymene · 19/03/2022 17:44

Oh I had to stop watching that. She looks like she wants to cry. Poor Sarah

RayonSunrise · 19/03/2022 17:35

The compromises all seem to be borne on one side of that relationship, don't they?

How modern.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 19/03/2022 17:27

@Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky

Poor Sarah. It’s not enough that her husband transitioned but she has to be paraded as part of Alexandra’s ‘triumph’, cheerleading all the way

Alexandra is clearly lacking in empathy

I didn’t notice the other thread had been deleted.

That’s exactly what jumped out at me when I read it.

Also that Alexandra would be “the very woman” to break the glass ceiling for women in banking. Errr, no ....

dapsnotplimsolls · 19/03/2022 17:24

I suspect Sarah and her family might get turfed out when the new gf wants to move in.

TheCurrywurstPrion · 19/03/2022 17:19

The impression I get is that Sarah thought she’d found a love for life.

Now she’s clinging to the half-life that’s all that is left of that love.

She’s trying to sound enthusiastic over the idea of a permitted lover, whereas what she probably wants is her much loved husband back. And she can’t have that, because he no longer exists.
