@Coyoacan

Friendly reminder to take all of JKR's books out of the library regularly

I disagree. Her writing is veyr much in demand and does not need empty gestures to support it. The more likely consequence would be that people who cannot afford to buy her books would not be able to read them.

I love JKR for using her skill with words to speak out for women and girl. But I love her writing even more.

Anyone who wants to get the book while it's out can put in a request so the current loan can't be extended past the due date.

I love her and have just pre ordered her jew book ☺️💜👏

What exactly is her bullshit? Pray explain so people can understand.

As far as I know she supports gay and transgender rights.[/quote]
She does. And even when she ruffled feathers by celebrating marriage equality in Ireland, and supporting the casting of black actresses to play Hermione on stage, she didn't receive anything like this level of threats and abuse. In other words, the ^racists and homophobes^ conduct themselves with more decency than many of her current detractors.

She just doesn't support validating gender identity as no different to natal sex to the point where it puts women in danger and strips them of their rights and fair opportunities.

And that's apparently incredibly offensive to many people.

I’ve never read a Harry Potter book or watched the films. However I love Rawling! What a women. I work in local govt and I’m terrified to say anything in case I lose my job.

@BiggerBoat1

She is small minded.

She may not understand trans women, but does that give her the right to be so completely lacking in empathy?

As someone above said, she is entitled to an opinion. As am I. I see nothing to admire in her.

I think she, and a fair few other women, understand all too well.

I do laugh when people call women 'small minded' for knowing that women don't have penises.

As if.

spacehardware · 12/03/2022 19:44

"Everyone knows who the women are when it comes to the threats and name calling"

Everyone knows what a woman is when they want some large gametes

bishophaha · 12/03/2022 19:44

Oh, don't let those determined to derail the thread actually do so.

Remember JK R is matching donations to Lumos for children in Ukraine - they've been working in Ukraine for years so are a good choice to donate to.

@BiggerBoat1
It isn’t that she doesn’t understand trans women.
She understands them very well.

@BiggerBoat1

Have you actually read everything she has said ? She believes the Trans community should have rights , just that they should not over ride the rights of women .

And actually you should be pleased tha she is bringing the debate to the table . The more we talk about the self ID situation the better . It’s when you can’t talk and accused of being a bigot if you do that the debate becomes MORE dangerous .

Soontobe60 · 12/03/2022 19:31

@HollowTalk

What's she's doing is standing in front of women who are more vulnerable so that the arrows hit her. She's absolutely amazing and I love her.
This absolutely! She’s a true champion of women.
SirSamVimesCityWatch · 12/03/2022 19:30

I've emailed in the past but I have a beautiful (Harry Potter!) card that I've been saving hoarding like the rights-loving Dino that I am so this time I'm going to write.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 12/03/2022 19:27

I am just loving all-out-of-fucks JKR. I really hope she is OK. I emailed her office before when she first started tweeting about this, and they replied. I am going to do it again - I really want her to know how much support she has.

It's 'small minded' to assert that a woman doesn't have a penis and you can't change sex?
Hopefullyoneday12 · 12/03/2022 19:01

All hail the Queen.

JKR thank you for supporting Women.

@NancyDrawed

I've just looked at her website.

The next meeting at the Reformer's Tree is March 27th, the following one is April 24th and then Manchester (venue TBC) May 15th.

And picnic in the park on Sunday 26 June, Reformes Tree, with a private venue for the evening. I know it will be busy and I don't care if I can't hear anyone as I'll watch it on you tube. I went to the Notts one and it was fab so looking forward to this. Bringing my daughters to London too. I would love it if JK Rowling would come to that one!
TheUsualShitshow · 12/03/2022 18:53

@BiggerBoat1

She's awful and needs to shut up. Plenty of people on here lapping up her bullshit though I see!
Yeah all that donating millions of her own money to support children around the world, and this week in Ukraine. Urgh, shut up Jo. Confused
Igneococcus · 12/03/2022 18:44

Comments are currently happening under the Carol Midgley article, although someone is reporting them it seems,

FemaleAndLearning · 12/03/2022 18:42

@Lifeinthelastlane

So KS simultaneously believes women are adult females and TWAW. He does not see anything contradictory about this?
I was going to say exactly this. Does he think we are stupid? He is trying to play us but we have our eyes wide open. If we got rid of transwomen are women and just said transwomen are transwomen it would be so much easier.
Jackiebrambles · 12/03/2022 18:26

@Enough4me what articles are the Times comments on? I am so frustrated by them switching off the comments as one of my key outlets for my rage has gone!
