Love her!

@WeirdArchitecture I totally get your discomfort about the DM.

But do you know what makes me more uncomfortable. Actually scrap that scared Is the fact that newspapers such as i and The Guardian which are supposed to be my go to papers are not representing me as a grown woman any more. And more worrying are supporting views that I believe are dangerous to children.

ValkyrieVik · 12/03/2022 16:34

He said: 'I believe in safe spaces for women — I'm very clear about those too. I think the 2010 act, the Equality Act, which does provide for safe spaces for women is right. And therefore I'm very straightforward about this.'

Well, the problem with this statement is that it's a complete non-sequitur isn't it? (Sorry if I'm not using the phrase correctly) but he says he agrees with it - after saying he thinks trans women ARE women.

So he DOESN'T agree with it clearly? He is a lawyer don't forget and knows exactly what he's doing/saying.

So tempted to rejoin Twatter so I can support JKR but can’t face it.

Really hope she occasionally glances our way if so Flowers to you Jo!

I really can not describe how much I admire her for doing this.

jhuizinga · 12/03/2022 16:30

Indeed Weird - let's shoot the messenger because we don't like the message. That always works. I couldn't admire JKR more. She is so sane, intelligent and fearless.

TheUsualShitshow · 12/03/2022 16:29

You could look for one @WeirdArchitecture 🤷🏻‍♀️

WeirdArchitecture · 12/03/2022 16:26

As for JKR, I agree with her but can't stand her. Prefer Germaine Greer's stance tbh.

WeirdArchitecture · 12/03/2022 16:24

Funny how a filth rag like the DM is suddenly considered credible if it suits our narrative.

Considering the sexist, low level trash this tabloid generally spews out, how anyone can take it seriously astounds me.

If I was going to link to this story I would give the DM a wide berth. If there is an alternative article I would recommend posting a link for those of us who prefer actual journalism.

Ha!

JK Rowling on Keir Starmer

I think Keir Starmer made a signficant error here.

Transwomen are Women is a radical statement; it shifts the meaning of the word 'woman' from sex to gender.

It's what Starmer said next that I have the issue with

He said: 'I believe in safe spaces for women — I'm very clear about those too. I think the 2010 act, the Equality Act, which does provide for safe spaces for women is right. And therefore I'm very straightforward about this.'

If he had added two words he could have bridged the gap between the tensions between sex and gender definitions- he could have acknowledged that women fear sharing particular spaces when vulnerable with people who have a physical advantage due to testosterone. (he could have done even better and considered issues of fairness relating to sporting competitions)

Those two words

'I believe in safe spaces for women — I'm very clear about those too. I think the 2010 act, the Equality Act, which does provide for safe spaces for biologically born women is right. And therefore I'm very straightforward about this.'

Instead, he said something that endorses a gender only view, without giving any consideration to risks or disadvantages that women can encounter because of their biological sex

AeroMocha · 12/03/2022 16:06

(JKR not JRK of course!)

AeroMocha · 12/03/2022 16:06

At the moment, JRK on everything! She's being amazing on twitter again.

ValkyrieVik · 12/03/2022 16:03

"Go JK, Go JK...!"

HRTQueen · 12/03/2022 16:00

Yes she is very wealthy

But she is speaking out she won’t be silenced which many are trying to do

I glad to read pp have daughters that know the truth. I’m also glad I grew up not having to deal with males deciding for mw that being a women isn’t biological

Labour losing women is trending on Twitter

A great reason for me to love her!

What, that she took Standard Grade Biology at school, and presumably passed?

I've heard she's gutted. Sad

Meanwhile back on planet earth, what a great article.

Tiphaine · 12/03/2022 15:55

Another reason for me to adore JK Rowling!

samsalmon · 12/03/2022 15:55

I’ve just got an image of a massively crowded hillside, with people budging up to make room for newcomers, with a very festive spirit, almost like a festival? 😁

Pluvia · 12/03/2022 15:54

I'm a lesbian, and I can say that there's always been quite a high proportion of misogynist gay men. It's one of the little secrets of the LGB community. Lesbians have always been at the bottom of the heap, victims of homophobia and misogyny.

Wonnle · 12/03/2022 15:39

@Queenoftheashes

I don’t think her career is on the line at all, plenty of people want to buy her books.
I don't think she's hard up for a few quid these days
MidCenturyClegs · 12/03/2022 15:38

@itsnotdeep

The young people (and gay men) in my office loathe her. But she's in a fortunate position of being able to visibly and actively not care what they think.

In any case, I think what she's doing is brilliant.

Exactly the same as the gay men in my office. For some reason they seem to be the really shouty angry ones calling TWAW and demanding Stonewall stays. Not many straight men express such vitriol. Meanwhile lesbians of the same age just keep quiet, don't join in with EDI events. What is it about that demographic? Just misogynists?
littlbrowndog · 12/03/2022 15:32

Young people I know can’t be arsed with the gender wooo wooo

I can5 be arsed with it.

JK can’t be arsed with it

Hill I would die on as well
