www.the-sun.com/news/4873526/cops-hunt-woman-fishnets-sexual-assault-primark-hants/

"COPS are hunting a "young woman" dressed in fishnet tights accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy in a Primark store."

I feel like the journalist who wrote it is giving a wink by putting in the inverted commas but if it is not a young woman that is being sought then its nonsense that the police are not giving accurate information.

If it is a young woman being sought then it seems like a bizzare stylistic choice to put young woman in inverted commas

Here's another one for the 'this never happens' files: www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/drinker-kicked-out-pub-paraded-26441912

That is a little odd. I thought perhaps they were going to say that “young woman” was a quote from the victim, but there was nothing further to indicate why the quotation marks were there.

They then used “woman” throughout the article without them, so perhaps that indicates it was the “young” part that was in question?

They did go on to give the age as 20-30, which (in my opinion) is not particularly young at the top end of the range, but those quotation marks are still a strange stylistic choice without further comment.

Perhaps it’s one of those things someone did, with the intention of explaining further, but then forgot, and the editor didn’t pick up on?
