  • haven't had a chance to keep an eye on his tribunal, but from what I'm reading:

'Dr Michael Webberley applied for voluntary erasure from the GMC register. The Tribunal say it is "unfortunate" that was not determined prior to the hearing today.

MW had two requests for postponement declined & has now provided new medical evidence for an adjournment'

I think I read 10 weeks?!

*hypogonadism, apologies, multitasking.

Moved on to the treatment of 'trans kids' now. All allegations look very similar to that of HW from what I can tell. I'm guessing the tribunal may not go on as long if MW is not attending.

Imnotavetbut · 28/03/2022 11:28

I'll be dipping in and out of this today. More on the murky world of Gender GP. MW is not in attendance and they've gone straight in on the usual allegations: prescribing without seeing patients, poor record keeping, failure to respond to lab results and failure to review. There seems to be a lot around the prescription of testosterone for men that he's diagnosed with hypergonadism and that he was prescribing it at very high quantities - the amount usually seen used by body builders. I'm sure it'll all become clearer as it progresses but it's all very strange at the moment.

This is starting again today.

I'm just catching up on this one after Maya's this week. It looks like he's unrepresented and it's going ahead next week. It definitely won't be Ben Cooper (alas) but it looks to be very interesting.

PrelateChuckles · 22/03/2022 09:43

Thank you!

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 22/03/2022 05:45

Hearing on 21st. Webberley is not attending.

The Chair is discussing the adjournment request and has determined the case should NOT [be] adjourned and will proceed. Written reasons will be proved for the decision and available to the public.

Related to this - Helen Webberley's tribunal continues on 4th April

Also related, on this thread a poster mentioned that It's quite scary the number of private prescriptions I've seen from Romania for puberty blockers.

It may only be a coincidence that GenderGP now employ a Romanian doctor to prescribe puberty blockers.

Placemarking in the hope of further news about this.

@DomesticatedZombie

Ah, no news on the Twitter - sorry, Prelate, that's my source of info!
Just to confirm there's no update on the MPTS site (I looked).

We now know MW's erasure application was rejected. The tribunal reconvenes to decide on the adjournment request, case management & timing of witnesses.

So this is @StoatlyL signing off until Friday 19 March for @tribunaltweets2 in Manchester.

Would there have been any news today? (Fri 18th!)

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 16/03/2022 09:29

I wonder if this means his application for voluntary erasure will be seen for what it is, by the panel?

That application has already been rejected. On Friday they'll be deciding on the adjournment he's requested.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 16/03/2022 09:26

"Why do I have to show I am fit to practise if I am leaving the register?

We have to guard against the remote possibility that a doctor might try to leave the register to evade our fitness to practise procedures. We also have to be able to certify that a doctor who is no longer registered was still in good standing up to the point when they left the register. Doctors often need to be able to demonstrate this to other regulators and employers"

@OldCrone

The GMC have a FAQ about giving up registration.

www.gmc-uk.org/registration-and-licensing/managing-your-registration/changing-your-status-on-the-register/giving-up-your-registration-and-licence-to-practise/faqs-about-giving-up-your-registration

2nd question on there:

We have to guard against the remote possibility that a doctor might try to leave the register to evade our fitness to practise procedures. We also have to be able to certify that a doctor who is no longer registered was still in good standing up to the point when they left the register. Doctors often need to be able to demonstrate this to other regulators and employers.

Ah ha. That makes sense. Sort of seems like the writing's on the wall for MW.
EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 16/03/2022 01:03

I'm pleased that the attempt at an end run didn't work. It will be interesting to see what happens on Friday.

Redshoeblueshoe · 15/03/2022 21:40

Thank you Oldcrone that makes sense

Redshoeblueshoe · 15/03/2022 20:44

I got the impression he was doing this to stop being struck off, then when things had quietened down, he would reapply - and hope everyone had forgotten everything BUT I have zero knowledge in this area.

GibbonsGoatsGibbons · 15/03/2022 20:40

Quite a whiff of "we won't accept your resignation because you're fired"...
