• haven't had a chance to keep an eye on his tribunal, but from what I'm reading:

'Dr Michael Webberley applied for voluntary erasure from the GMC register. The Tribunal say it is "unfortunate" that was not determined prior to the hearing today.

MW had two requests for postponement declined & has now provided new medical evidence for an adjournment'

I suspect Gender GP didn't see W when they were 4 - more that W told them they had wanted to be a boy since then.

This is the tweet that has really upset me:
SJ: MW was unaware if W's mental health history. This is a contradiction as medical records on this date back to patient being a very small child.

So they didn't bother to check mental health history. Records available since a young age suggest serious, ongoing concerns. I just cannot fathom the mentality needed to blithely prescribe medication that can permanently affect the body to an adult, let alone a child, with potentially serious mental health difficulties.

Also this about Patient V:
SJ: Dr Keirans indicates PBs might have been appropriate but lack of documents and no trail to the background of treatment plans. Dr Keirans said its not clear the capacity of patient was assessed and no attempt to review impact of treatment

Not just no documentation of capacity assessment. No capacity assessment. For a 9 year old. My mind is boggled and my flabber is ghasted.

I am so angry about the harm that these charlatans have done to some extremely vulnerable young people.

DomesticatedZombie · 28/03/2022 20:33

There are people posting on GenderGP's facebook that nobody is responding to emails/messages.

'We paid the startup fee after this and have since had no communication for 7 weeks, despite us trying to contact them multiple times. I'm starting to get concerned as our money has been taken yet we've now been left completely in the dark with no support.'

But they're still posting adverts on Twitter for cut price, discounted meds. Hmm

Yes, it's truly perplexing.

I may be reading too much into his absence but it certainly appears like he's accepted his fate. Imagine ending your career with allegations like that and knowing the harm you've caused (allegedly) and not giving any kind of response. HW isn't crowing on like she usually does either but I would guess she's prepping herself for her own tribunal which recommences shortly.

But four year olds believe in magic. As well as a potion to turn them into a boy they may also want one that would make them fly or invisible or turn them into a dog. It is not grounded in reality.

KittenKong · 28/03/2022 19:28

I work with 4 year olds.

They don’t know if they want chicken for lunch - let alone that it’s the same animal as the cartoon chicken on the wall.

One day they best pal is Matt and the next it’s Rachel.

One was recently telling me how her favourite colour was purple… her favourite colour is green… her favourite colour is blue… and this is a really bright, eloquent kid.

One day they ALL want the pink tumbler and the next day they all want the green one.

They will tell you that they went to Africa last night after school to visit tigers.

They get halfway home before having to be brought back because they have left their scooter/bag/worn someone else’s shoes/jumper.

Merrily tell mum/dad at pickup that they didn’t have lunch today because they ran out food (never happens).

Last week at the Easter egg hunt one told me that he was the Easter bunny. And that he didn’t like chocolate (oh really, so why are you scoffing chocolate eggs?)

My favourite (at my sisters old school) - all the 4 year old class want home and told their parents that their head teacher (my sister)… was dead. My sister only found out when she wandered into her office the next day and it was full of flowers.

Small kids knowing they are ‘in the wrong body’ and want drugs? I’m a bit dubious.

@Imnotavetbut

Some of the details this afternoon have been ghastly. 'W' who knew they wanted testosterone from the age of 4? I don't know whether it's the way it has translated into the tweet but I'm struggling with the idea that a 4 year old knew about testosterone. I think I know who W was, an utterly tragic case and it must be hard for the family to hear all this. It does sound like the tribunal are being very thorough again though and I'm pleased about that.
I think that is quote revealing. It suggests a small child's understanding of what testosterone is as a magic medicine that turns them into a boy. If they had a proper understanding of what testosterone does then it wouldn't have been what they wanted at four as at four they wouldn't understand the limitations of it or the adverse effects and if they did it wouldn't have been what they wanted.

It is, Mrs. My heart really aches for them.

What a miserable read. These poor children - getting substandard care wherever they turn Sad

I might have heard of testosterone by the time I was 14 and doing Biology at school, but 4? I scarcely knew the difference between boys and girls at that age.

DomesticatedZombie · 28/03/2022 17:05

Thanks, GCITC.

It is alleged that Dr Webberley’s failings related variously to consultation, history taking, examination, diagnosis, prescribing, communication, follow up, informed consent, assessment, working with colleagues, working within the limits of his expertise and working within guidance.

Many thanks for information and links. As a layperson, looking at the charges here, is there any aspect of being a doctor they think he was doing adequately?

GCITC · 28/03/2022 16:47

@DomesticatedZombie

'Dr JD was assessing headaches of Patient V and was concerned V was starting hormones'

Is that referring to puberty blockers or testosterone? This was a nine year old child.

GnRH, which is used to block puberty.

MW has not provided a response to allegations although GMC have received various documents
Still boggles me that such young kids are getting caught up in this. A 9-year old FFS! The details are jaw-dropping: twitter.com/tribunaltweets2/status/1508446296239136779
That Twitter thread is honestly mind blowingly bad. If even half of that is true, MW should honestly face prison time.

Changechangychange · 28/03/2022 15:47

@Melroses

I did see this and wondered the significance.

Is it like retiring before a disciplinary?

Basically, yes. Removing yourself from the register before you can be struck off.

Might be ok if you are making inadvertent mistakes due to poor mental health/old age/something else outside of your control, and put your hands up and say you can’t practice safely any more.

Definitely not ok for allegations of dishonesty.

tabbycatstripy · 28/03/2022 15:41

Am I right that he prescribed testosterone to a 9 year old?

I really hope this tribunal gets to the bottom of what happened, and, if there was wrong-doing, how it was allowed to happen, particularly regarding any under-18s a.k.a. children.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 28/03/2022 14:37

Does anyone know why he isn't attending? It seems very odd to me, but then my only (very limited) knowledge of similar scenarios is based on the Adrian Harrop proceedings.

Imnotavetbut · 28/03/2022 14:33

Yes, it was until June I think but seeing as he has no representation and he's not present I can't see how it'll go on that long. The GMC obviously won't be able to question him and I'm presuming that anyone he had lined up to provide evidence in his favour now won't attend? He clearly wanted the voluntary erasure but didn't get it and now it seems like he's thrown in the towel. Striking difference between him and HW, she's clinging on for dear life. GMC are simply going through the charges atm, it doesn't appear that there will be anything surprising but I'm very confused by the testosterone prescribing, that seems to be a separate matter to the treatment of children.

DomesticatedZombie · 28/03/2022 14:15

For info:

'Allegation

The tribunal will inquire into the allegation that, between April 2017 and June 2019, Dr Webberley failed to provide good clinical care to 25 patients. It is alleged that Dr Webberley’s failings related variously to consultation, history taking, examination, diagnosis, prescribing, communication, follow up, informed consent, assessment, working with colleagues, working within the limits of his expertise and working within guidance. It is also alleged that a number of patient consent forms contained information that was untrue and that Dr Webberley’s actions were dishonest.

It is further alleged that until 2019, alongside Dr A, Dr Webberley operated and controlled the company known as Gender GP, which was set up in such a way as to avoid the regulatory framework of the UK. It is alleged that in November 2018, Dr A was made subject to an interim order of suspension meaning that there were no practising GPs working for Gender GP. It is alleged that following this Dr Webberley retained the name of his company as Gender GP and that his conduct was dishonest.'

Running til the 1st of June, it says here. I don't know if that means it will definitely run all of that time?
