Feeling really low today

Sasketchewoo · 06/03/2022 15:41

I know it's best to step back for a bit if this is upsetting me so much but this is really getting under my skin so I wanted to post here first. I had been following TT Exulansic on YT and seeing her followers grow was giving me such hope that lots of people were being reached regarding the full horrors of the surgeries that are performed. The way things have played out with her have really knocked me. She was genuinely achieving something before things too the turn they did.

I keep getting a WEP person on my TikTok (I think she is one of their deputy leaders) posting things that make my blood boil. How are we in this situation where a new party with fabulous potential to help women is just sticking a dagger in our backs? This TikTok account (I really don't want to make things personal and name her) is so enraging, I want to cry for the many women and girls who need strong politicians and some real change when women with some voice are getting caught up with all the gender nonsense. I think because of Afghanistan and now Ukraine I am feeling more fragile about things at the moment. There are so many things we could be focusing on if we weren't having to fight these silly battles about gender.

I just had someone from Labour knock on my door asking if I'd vote Labour - I used to but had to say not a chance in hell right now. She didn't look surprised. I didn't have the heart to get into a debate today.

I know we're making progress, it helps so much to see lots of strong women stand up and fight for single sex spaces, etc. I just want to be able to flick a switch and have this all go away.

OP, the best thing is to join a real local group, and then you can meet up, in person, with all the wonderful like- minded terfs.

Posie is starting up some local groups.
The Resisters have local groups.
Contact the Woman's Rights Network for local groups - they are on twitter or email [email protected]

Local groups are springing up like mushrooms, I'm sure that others can suggest more?

But meeting real women, and real action is the key Smile

MoonOnASpoon · 08/03/2022 07:55

Shat on not what on!

MoonOnASpoon · 08/03/2022 07:55

There have been comments from teachers and other pupils along the lines of engineering being for boys and a coupe of the children had said she could change sex

That’s awful and I think it highlights big problem with the influence of gender ideology and its pushing of stereotypes. While transactivists will try to argue that it’s not about stereotypes, that’s ultimately what filters down to kids and people like teachers who are being told what to think by stonewall etc. if you must prioritise and encourage trans identities above all else, which is essentially what’s happening in schools as well as other institutions, you end up prioritising gender stereotypes because how else can you accommodate the whole concept? It’s not just trans-identifying kids that are encouraged to inhabit a stereotype, but everyone else too, so as to make the whole trans thing make sense. And these attitudes are what kids are soaking up now.

And what a surprise, who gets what on the most by that. Girls Hmm :(

Kids at school can barely get their head around the idea that my dd is a girl who has short hair and likes trousers. It’s so obviously damaging and teachers cheer it all on in their desperation to do the right thing.

MadameKali · 08/03/2022 07:04

I'm sorry you're feeling overwhelmed by it all. I think we all get like that from time to time and need to step away. Kudos to the good women of the naughty corner who never give up posting for the benefit of the lurkers.

I do feel that things are getting better. The push back is noticeable. Yesterday I posted on IG about JKR's pledge to match donations to Lumos. An old friend mentioned something along the lines of keyboard warriors pushing the idea that JKR is anti trans but she doesn't believe it. I started to DM her and then thought fuck it, I'll respond on the post. Kept it very faux naive about having read her essay and not seeing anything transphobic just pro women. I've had several likes on that comment and subsequent positive comments - no hateful bigot remarks (although I'm sure my sister will be along soon to woke scold me)

Women have had enough, are starting to realise that a lot of us feel the same and are getting braver. Look after yourself and come back stronger 💐

NonnyMouse1337 · 08/03/2022 06:12

There have been comments from teachers and other pupils along the lines of engineering being for boys and a coupe of the children had said she could change sex.

What the actual fuck?! Those teachers are a disgrace!

AlisonDonut · 07/03/2022 21:09

See I was an engineer.

A female one.

I dread to think what would have happened if I was trying to do engineering now.

Pluvia · 07/03/2022 20:48

I was working with two male engineers on Friday, two men I barely know, and one of them mentioned he was concerned about the things his daughter is learning at school. He and the whole family ride bikes and his daughter helps him maintain the bikes and has expressed an interest at school in becoming an engineer (she's 10). There have been comments from teachers and other pupils along the lines of engineering being for boys and a coupe of the children had said she could change sex. He and his wife approached the school and were very unhappy with the response. They'd been googling and were horrified at what's going on in Welsh education. I worked away quietly with them while he explained it all to the other guy he was working with and by the end of the day the second man was ready to go to his children's school and ask about loos and what they're being taught.

Word is trickling down. Ordinary people who love the women in their families aren't prepared to put up with all the gender bs.

DontLikeCrumpets · 07/03/2022 20:26

@LizDoingTheCanCan

You're not making progress. Most people believe do not have the concerns they do, because they manage to keep a more rational perspective. That's all you need to do to flick that switch, come back to the real world, understand that trans people are people like the rest of us, not some enemy wanting to cause you harm.
Really trans are not some enemy wanting to cause you harm? Do you really believe that? The abuse, harassment, threats and misogyny of transgender politics is documented.

Show me evidence of anything remotely similar coming from our side as to what is documented at the following site

Hi.

Just have a little look at Julie Bindel's Twitter today. That should cheer you up. It did me.

UsernameNotAvailableHmm · 07/03/2022 20:19

Sorry to hear you're feeling really low, it's only natural with all that's going on. But you're right, progress is being made, and will continue to be made.

Take care of yourself, have a little break, hope you'll be back to your usual self real soon.

I'll be checking on the links given (thank you) and catching up with more of the messages here on the board.

Theunamedcat · 07/03/2022 20:09

I came across something in my emails today it was an email I wrote to the local labour party candidate I detailed statistics examples and a clear concise argument against self id and the removal of protected spaces for women he never responded this is why I won't vote for him more to the point he won't come back he won't discuss with anyone womens rights he had failed to oust the Conservative Mp multiple occasions our mp who is allegedly a bit of a sex pest and who clearly understands what a woman is people bote for an alleged sex pest rather than him and he doesn't feel the need to engage in discussion 🙄 one woman said I vote for (Conservative mp) the guy is a tosser but he knows a woman when he sees one

How low has it all got

Theunamedcat · 07/03/2022 20:02

#bekind was never about anything more than shutting people especially women up

littlbrowndog · 07/03/2022 19:54

We will get there

I never would have come onto this section of Mumsnet in th3 past . But it’s been just a great education for me.

We will get there.

Appalonia · 07/03/2022 19:13

Totally understand. Last week there was a post on Twitter by a woman who was in a mixed sex toilet and there was a man in there peeing with the cubicle door open. When she challenged him he had a real go at her and it left her feeling shaken. So this is where we are now, no safe spaces of our own, and unable to challenge men on it. It's so unfair and so upsetting, reading her account made me feel both furious and helpless. It feels like such a huge con that's been played on women and yes, whilst we are pushing back, sometimes it feels like a huge mountain to climb...

DomesticatedZombie · 07/03/2022 15:36

@Ereshkigalangcleg

I doubt Liz will come back, they're doing the can can, and also don't have very much to contribute here or on any other thread they've popped into to tell us how awful we are. Like other pp I think it's telling that these people tend to pop up when people are struggling.
Hm. An attempt to pick on people when they are vulnerable. Lovely. This is the 'bekind' movement in action.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/03/2022 08:46

MoonOnASpoon · 07/03/2022 08:36

understand that trans people are people like the rest of us, not some enemy wanting to cause you harm.

Feminists who care about women and girls do understand this. It is a myth promoted by gender ideologues (in place of actual evidence or logical arguments to support the beliefs they wish to impose on others) that wanting to protect women’s safe spaces and protect minors from a medical pathway is about hating or fearing trans people, wanting to get rid of them or not thinking they are human. But that’s clearly bollocks if you give it some thought.

If i hated or excluded trans people for being trans, I wouldn’t welcome trans men into female spaces for a start. It is because I understand that a confused, suggestible teenager who identifies as trans is human and normal and could well change their mind, that I oppose irreversible medical steps at a young age. It is because I understand that transwomen are (statistically) normal and as likely as any other male to be a sex offender - more likely in the case of self-Iding prisoners - that I think female only spaces should stay female-only.

On the contrary, it is transactivists who act as if trans people are some kind of special non-human super-race, who are not capable of ever doing wrong, and the act of saying you are trans by definition means you are, and so could not possibly be perpetrating a deception or be a victim of social contagion - when we know those things are quite common behaviours in humans.

It is not fear or hate of trans people. It is a sensible understanding of human behaviour - which includes all humans including trans people - and how the opportunities offered by self-ID can lead to harm, which may not be done by trans people at all, but by non-trans people faking it. There is also the harm suffered by minors who think they are trans but are quite likely not to be. Again, statistically.

It is not hate to point out that identifying as trans does not necessarily make you either a) trans or b) incapable of wrongdoing.

KittyLeMew · 06/03/2022 21:48

Anyway OP, I’ve shared your feelings of lowness this week upon hearing the outright lies shared by various female MSPs on the subject.

However all this does is draw attention to the many, many examples of how self ID endangers women and girls, so we have:

www.scotsman.com/news/opinion/columnists/abusive-men-will-exploit-proposed-new-gender-recognition-law-susan-dalgety-3596504

www.sundaypost.com/fp/mandy-rhodes-single-sex-spaces/?fbclid=IwAR1awQT39ZBopvwe52gbGM6ZlYcPN1cWnOtkkXIeULX2RLYGG4WU0pyvlhw

Glinner wrote this to share directly with Shona Robison
grahamlinehan.substack.com/p/predators-pretending-to-be-something?s=r

So I will be doing that, and donating, and emailing MPs and amplifying the messages of campaigners and organisations and everyone who stands up for the rights of girls and women.

Take time out and off when you need to and look after yourself. It is exhausting, but we will prevail.

KittyLeMew · 06/03/2022 21:29

No @LizDoingTheCanCan

Not anti trans, pro women and girls rights. The two groups could co exist and have a lovely supportive relationship but TRAs (both trans and non trans) won’t allow this.

But all you had was #nodebate and the fact that most people didn’t know what was going on. That time is over, and the more you push, and the more idiotic/corrupt/virtue signalling/whatever the fuck is behind their capitulation MPs try to force this bullshit through, the more light there is on this issue, the more people become aware and push back. There was a Scottish poll today with 90 per cent of voters against self ID. Detransitioner Awareness day is coming up, how good do you think that’s going to look for you? And the lawsuits are starting too. There’s going to be a lot of money in fighting this awfulness, maybe not as much as the vile, venal surgeons are making by mutilating desperately vulnerable young people, but enough to kick up a stink.

What is upsetting is that so many vulnerable young people will be chewed up and spat out by this and left scarred, infertile, and requiring lifelong medical treatment. There are already 27k plus members of r/detrans - how many more by next year, in five years, ten... A generation of young people left with mangled, malfunctioning bodies because they weren’t given the proper care, care that we know they should have and are fighting for them to get.

Anyway, every time I really a shitty, spiteful little comment like this it reminds me to contribute to Maya Forstater, to Raquel Rosario Sanchez, to Emma Bateman, to Shahrar Ali, to Keep Prisons Single Sex, to For Women Scotland and all the other groups, the substacks I subscribe to, the organisations fighting for girls and women’s rights every day. So thanks for the reminder Smile

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 06/03/2022 20:20

You see that's the thing that really frustrates me. If we're pro women we're perceived as anti trans. But I'm not anti trans, I'm pro women. And children. Let them grow up to be who they are without the sinister medical pathway that leaves people sterile and needing lifelong medical treatment.

MiladyBerserko · 06/03/2022 20:18

We've all been there. Take a break, look after yourself, we need you.

Sasketchewoo · 06/03/2022 20:05

Thanks everyone, it really helps to read your responses. I am surprised by how miserable this has made me today, I think Ukraine isn't helping. I will take a break from reading too much about it all.

Most people believe do not have the concerns they do, because they manage to keep a more rational perspective.

Ah good. Tips very welcome! How do I feel rational please about the people leaving death threats and posing with baseball bats on Twitter, who scare the shit out of me with their male bodies and aggressive tone? How do I feel rational about the Irish surgeon in American who is operating on the perfectly healthy bodies young women without doing any kind of assessment of their mental health or past trauma? I could waste an hour listing all the other things that are frightening me but that doesn't really fit with me stepping back and taking care of myself for a bit so I won't.

DomesticatedZombie · 06/03/2022 17:28

Trans people are indeed people like everyone else.

Yes. This is 100% true. Just as likely to break the law, commit offences, attack women, etc, as others. (The converse is also true, of course).

What women are arguing is that transpeople are exactly the same as other people and should have no special treatment.

Voice0fReason · 06/03/2022 17:25

Trans people are indeed people like everyone else. They include the same portion of sex offenders as the rest of the population, meaning that trans people who are males pose the same risk to females as all other males do. That's why I and so many others, will never stop fighting for protected spaces for women, which is obviously inclusive of any trans men who want it.
DomesticatedZombie · 06/03/2022 17:18

OP Brew

It gets us all like that sometimes.

Remember your self care. Look to the helpers.

For all the horrors and nastiness uncovered in this fight, there are also brave, brilliant and incredibly strong women in this fight, whom I would not have had the pleasure of coming across. I've genuinely never had an experience like it in my life.

And the wee glimmers get you through. See a ribbon in the wild, overhear a snatch of conversation, marvel at the cool and calm collected response of so many women in the face of vicious attack and outrageous slings and arrows. Too many to list. We'll get there. Things now, honestly are so different than they were in 2017, 2018. We have made incredible progress.

Women have been here since humans evolved. We're not going anywhere.

Take heart. Tak tent. Take time. Flowers
