I think there is so much to worry about with Ukraine, I wasn't expecting this statement from MI6 about freedoms.... I think a whole society is at risk yet there is more pontificate and point scoring which suggest a 'wall influence.

I think what distinguishes us from Putin is that we are not some despot dropping bombs on people.

The phase "hard won freedoms" is especially tone deaf when people are literally fighting for their lives. (And I use literally in the absolute correct sense, that is what literal violence is)

One of the reasons it seems - in fact is - so inappropriate is that the implications are pretty weird. Is he suggesting there is some kind of connection between Russia attacking Ukraine and LGBT++++ issues? Are we supposed to base our sympathy for the Ukrainians on their attitudes to these things?

Presumably not, so why is he bringing it up?
