Top surgery at 17?

OP posts:

Agree. The young people I have come across who believe in genderism definitely lack maturity and a “worldliness” that their peers have. They’ve spent too long staring at screens solo, watching YouTube etc rather than engaging in activities- sport, drama etc - with their peers

Yes even the older adult transitioners. There's a script and they divert the interview back to it every time. The counter arguments are also often pre recorded answers having refused to go to the studio in person to answer live questions, explained away of course by the notion they are " unsafe" . If we are really lucky we get a written statement read by the presenter.

For people so decided to and convinced by gender ideology there's an awful lot of avoiding questions amd avoiding interviews etc and thise that do speak, well it all immediately gets personalised

MaMaLa321 · 16/02/2022 10:08

It was their awful reporting of the Cologne NYE attacks in 2015 which turned me away from the Guardian. It hasn't got any better.

me too. I now take the FT on Saturdays and my DH takes the Guardian (for some reason). The difference in the quality of journalism is immense.

FrancescaContini · 16/02/2022 10:02

@NotBadConsidering

They also appear completely surprised at the outcomes of the surgery.

I wrote a long post on a previous thread about this regarding Freddy McConnell’s ability to provide informed consent. McConnell still doesn’t understand the implications of removing breasts, thinking if the nipples had been left alone Freddy would have been able to breastfeed. And this is someone who has had surgery and had 7 years to think about it.

Yes. Poooor meeeeeee, nobody told me, it’s all their fault.

Such a victim.

FrancescaContini · 16/02/2022 10:01

@Whatwouldscullydo

There’s always a pseudo maturity to these children. Well, according to their parents. They are always resilient, brave, steadfast and consistent

This is what has surprised me every single time. While we were pulling our toddlers out the dog bowls and wiping paint and snot off every surface these children were asking when God will fix his mistake and give them a penis/vagina.

But,.yet when you see them older , on you tube and tik tok, and even tv, they come across as incredibly immature. I mean it often appears they know what they are talking about with their identity but then when forced to go " off script" you see they are well behind their peers maturity wise. Unable to hold a conversation without getting offended. Cant seem to follow subjects/conversations beyond their own experience. Exhibiting almost toddler like behaviour.

Its truly like a script that cant be deviated from.

Someone on Twitter linked to a previous article by this writer about her divorce from the father of her two younger children (not the father of the trans child). It was about the time that the child was depressed (according to this article) - perhaps that background should have been acknowledged when deciding how to help a troubled 12 year old?

Poor child.

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/02/2022 09:56

I was disturbed by the part of the article where the mother states she was uncomfortable at first with the names and switch of pronouns but that it got easier.

Shes admitting the stress and upset ajd difficulties In pretending your reality doesn't exist. Reminiscent of the til tok videos where lesbians proudly admit they have gotten over their aversion to male genitals.

Seems to be a completely blind spot re the fact they have successfully brainwashed themselves. Trained themselves to speak untruths and endure things that make them feel uncomfortable but the feelings if everyone else around them matter and their feelings don't.

Its not the positive , devoted parent comment they seem to think it is

NotBadConsidering · 16/02/2022 09:56

Here are some other articles from this person. She was convinced while pregnant she was having a boy:

www.kidspot.com.au/parenting/mum-shares-the-story-of-her-sons-transition-on-the-i-swear-i-never-podcast/news-story/7313e874fc1d38623751d78c31336841

Here she is being proud her child is going through menopause:

honey.nine.com.au/parenting/my-15-year-old-transgender-son-is-going-through-menopause-and-im-so-proud-of-him/4840ac74-bae2-4ce9-bfd4-8533da02fb67

With the following misinformation:

Once that oestrogen tide goes out, that's when a short and sharp menopause can hit. Apart from that, the only side effect is potential bone brittleness from a loss of calcium, so we're being vigilant about ensuring he's keeping up his vitamins.

ONLY side effect?! So nothing else?!

This woman is dangerous. If this was a post about Covid on Facebook it would be flagged as misinformation. But it’s seemingly okay to spread misinformation about the realities of medical transition.

nolongersurprised · 16/02/2022 09:53

I think that drives a lot of the activism of the prominent "mums" who I won't name

I’ve thought that as well. All the better to avoid self-reflection.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/02/2022 09:49

Yes, absolutely. I think that drives a lot of the activism of the prominent "mums" who I won't name.

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/02/2022 09:49

They also appear completely surprised at the outcomes of the surgery. How informed consent can be claimed was given I dont know. Particularly with the phalloplasty procedure. The transmen I've seen on you tube seemed surprised they were peeing into bags months later . Surprised and unprepared fir multiple revision surgeries. They appear to have a a tattoo planned to cover the area. But surprised they couldn't move their hand properly after akd need physio.

One I've recently seen also is on camera asking a dr what happened to their nipples. Like why would they not know ? How can accept consent from.someome who didn't even know the nipples would be beimh removed.

nolongersurprised · 16/02/2022 09:48

The narrative is definitely built up around them by their parents (usually mothers).

I still think though, when you meet the parents of “trans” kids that there’s still that darting fear lurking under the surface, that “what the fuck am I doing to my child”. That’s why it’s always important that their child is presented as unwavering and sure, to assuage parental guilt and uncertainty.

IvyTwines · 16/02/2022 09:44

@DrBlackbird

I wouldn’t even blame The Graun playing both sides by, for example, reporting on a study that suggested transitioning might have some psychosocial benefits for some adult individuals. And several years ago it included two pieces on adult detransitioners 9one male, one female) who detransitioned some 10/15 years later with huge regret. But this piece? Incredible.
According to the photographer, when asked why her recent interview and photo story on Detransitioners was appearing in the paywalled Sunday Times and not the more youth-oriented and free to view Guardian, the Guardian was offered the piece and refused it.

The Guardian's funding system (including from a foundation that also funds Mermaids) means it reaches a younger audience than paywalled papers. Rather than making them more responsible as journalists and reporters, with a duty of care to fully inform young people, especially those who may be about to make huge decisions like this, it seems to have done the opposite.

Last year the Guardian published a similar piece to today's on a teenage male-to-female transitioner and other youngsters encouraged to transition through gaming communities. The teenager had been told by the lovely friendly strangers they had met online how to get mail-order hormones apparently without informing family or the NHS, and was now fundraising for 'bottom surgery', as the article coyly calls it, again outside the NHS checks and balances, and is acting as a 'mother' to more young 'eggs' in online communities.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/02/2022 09:42

I agree, Scully.

@Abhannmor

The comments are the only redeeming feature . Elsewhere the paper has a story about the campaign to end FGM. Viner has had an irony bypass operation.
I noticed this, too. Terrifying article. And yes, you have a daughter who has had a double mastectomy at the age of 17.
DrBlackbird · 16/02/2022 09:34

young people are so much more accepting and progressive

Which is exactly why they’re explicitly and repeatedly targeted.

Only good part to the Graun is Marina Hyde and John Crace (both strike me as tethered to reality) and a few others.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/02/2022 09:28

They've allowed BTL comments? Shock

RoyalCorgi · 16/02/2022 09:27

The mother - and every other idiotic, negligent, brain-addled parent transing their child - should be forced to read this:

quillette.com/2020/10/06/forget-what-gender-activists-tell-you-heres-what-medical-transition-looks-like/

nolongersurprised · 16/02/2022 09:26

I honestly think it’s because parents have been through hell and back and need to feel as though the hard bit is over, their child now has their physical/social transition needs met and they are now ready to become a young adult.

Whereas, of course, the worst part is still to come. Their 17 year old will become a masculinised 25 year old with a very limited number of people with whom they can be in a relationship, reduced/no fertility, complications of testosterone on a female reproductive system and the loss of their breasts when they were still a child.

Abhannmor · 16/02/2022 09:24

RoyalCorgi · 16/02/2022 09:15

Horrified at this article. No, you haven't got a son: what you have is a daughter who's had an unnecessary double mastectomy and is taking a drug, testosterone that will cause permanent harm and probably shorten her life. She will never have anything approaching a normal sex life and she will almost certainly never have children. There's every chance that in three or four years she will regret what she's done. And she will blame you for not stopping her.

The Guardian is criminally irresponsible in publishing this article. I hope one day it is held to account.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/02/2022 09:15

Siblings are always so supportive in these puff piece articles, they always get it straight away despite the performative angst and disbelief of the parent. Because the young people are so much more accepting and progressive.

DrBlackbird · 16/02/2022 09:10

Yes it’s really suffered under a million paper cuts of revenue loss and repeated efforts to reduce costs. So so sad. But it’s also suffering under its editorial choices. Those seem to be self inflicted.

Whilst I read a variety of sources for perspective, I cannot bring myself to support the Torygraph by buying the bloody paper copy and won’t pay for the digital edition.

Just a strange time to be living through when so many supposedly ‘liberal’ folk have lost all critical facility and circle back to being totalitarian in views and actions. Power corrupts?

sacredfeminina · 16/02/2022 09:06

^''What if he changes his mind? What if people give him a hard time? What if his younger siblings are confused? What if I feel weird or uncomfortable?

The answer those all of those questions, of course, is “who cares?”^

.... Who. Cares .

Wow what an unbelievably shallow response. Who cares of said child wants a baby and to breastfeed them in the future.

Who cares aye?
