Three article the Sunday Times Scotland today, none of then allows any comments, not even mdoerated:

SNP article:

Transgender rights: Samaritan denied foster role in row over puberty blockers:

And Viking hordes ‘may have been trans’:

"Sacha Coward, who specialises in gender and sexuality, said it would be “a mistake” to believe that Viking society subscribed to traditional gender roles, after recent discoveries suggested that some celebrated warriors were female."

But tradional gender roles are fundamental to trans ideology, if the Vikings didn't believe in them then these female warriors were just that, female warriors, not transmen. "Leading historian" my arse.

Claiming all Viking warrior women were trans is like saying all women who join the military must have a man gender identity.

Yes but then how do they explain the men who were in the armed forces who then transitioned (and there have been some high-profile ones)? None of it makes any sense.

Thelnebriati · 13/02/2022 14:30

Claiming all Viking warrior women were trans is like saying all women who join the military must have a man gender identity.

But this is the logical conclusion of gender, isnt it. It seems bonkers to us because we are not scared of reality, know where babies come from and laugh about being called Sir by mistake.

Remember that abuse ramps up as the victim stops giving two fucks and works out how to leave.

highame · 13/02/2022 14:29

@Igneococcus

I wonder why the comments on the all three articles have been turned off. The Times genderwoo articles are usually heavily commented

Gillian Bowditch's comment about abuse and bullying in schools also has comments turned off.

Maybe legal issues, perhaps a court case in the offing? otherwise moderators must be having a day off.

I would be very cautious about SNP, they will behave like Labour and try and hide intentions with a few well chosen words 'all women' 'considerations given to respect and dignity for all' springs to mind

@MingeofDeath

"Queering history", FFS .
My reaction, too
HoyaSaxa · 13/02/2022 14:06

Just listened to The Rest is History podcast on the Vikings. Would highly recommend.

They had to put a trigger warning because of the descriptions of sexual violence towards women. It was horrific. Pretty sure the Vikings knew exactly what sex they wanted to sexually abuse.

Dh never particularly discusses this with me as he knows I won't shut up and he cba with it.

I was swearing under my breath about the greens and showed him the screen shot of the abuse Alison Moyet received and he proclaimed:

"The thing is, from my perspective, these men who reckon they're women, it's the height of misogyny."

Given his main area of knowledge is construction, finances, cricket and football, I was impressed with the nail on head statement.

(He's been mightily pissed off with grappling with toilets within planning rules for a while mind you.)

ScreamingMeMe · 13/02/2022 10:53

Yes I'm surprised Boudicca hasn't been claimed yet. Maybe it's because she had long hair? 🤔

SamphiretheStickerist · 13/02/2022 10:51

There = rare

Bloody autocucumber

SamphiretheStickerist · 13/02/2022 10:51

So Boudicca? Is it just a mistake that she is described as a women, wife/widow and warrior?

Or is she an even more there than we thought woman doing manly stuff in history?

Some mistake there, surely?!

ScreamingMeMe · 13/02/2022 10:48

@Theluggage15

So Boudicca was trans then and Joan of Arc? How ridiculous, Coward’s well into gender stereotypes then.
Oh that claim has already beenmade about Joan of Arc.

GibbonsGoatsGibbons · 13/02/2022 10:42

The SNP can fuck off to the far side of fuck.

Excellent work (as always) from MBM
mobile.twitter.com/mbmpolicy/status/1492400579854929922
murrayblackburnmackenzie.org/2022/02/04/gender-recognition-reform-and-unanswered-questions/

And covered by the telegraph here www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2022/02/12/nicola-sturgeons-close-ally-urged-lgbt-groups-lobby-politicians/

Is very very relevant. The SNP do not understand the law they are trying to make/change & have not adhered to consultation requirements.

In a microcosm this is illustrated nicely by my MSP's office replying to my reply with a copy of the same original letter I was replying to Angry

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/02/2022 10:11

How did The Times even find them?

Sacha looks like Sacha is all over self-promotion - I suspect Sacha was the one who drummed up the publicity.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 13/02/2022 10:00

Sacha coward describes themselves as a freelance museum professional and they specialise in LGBTQ experiences and queering history. How did The Times even find them? I mean genuinely if you were doing an article about vikings wouldn’t you go to an actual Viking historian employed at oooh I don’t know a university? Why would you go to a “museum freelancer”?

Hoardasurass · 13/02/2022 09:58

We have all known for decades that shield maidens made up a significant proportion of viking warriors and yet now we are supposed to believe that they were all trans nah.
Although I am very pleased to hear that both of the judicial review verdicts are expected in the next couple of weeks, hopefully we will win both and that can be used to sink the SNPs self-id plans

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/02/2022 09:56

So they find the body of a female warrior and instead of celebrating this as evidence that women could, in some circumstances, be part of the warrior class in Viking society, suggesting, in some contexts, gender roles were not entirely as rigid as previously thought, they conclude 'she must be trans'. Lordy. Have they had a go at the Amazons yet?

I suppose that in their tiny little minds womanhood is defined by staying home and sewing his tunic, polishing his helmet and preparing to give him an almighty BJ upon his return from battle, all the time dreaming of a future century where they can define their appropriate femininity with pink, sparkles and unicorns.

FrancescaContini · 13/02/2022 09:48

Tedious, these apparent “experts” undertaking a bit of historical revisionism to fit their ideological narrative.

Vikings were trans - oh do fuck off

DomesticatedZombie · 13/02/2022 09:48

Hoping very hard that the EHRC clarifies access and protections for single sex exceptions before this goes through.

DomesticatedZombie · 13/02/2022 09:46

'The length of time it takes to get a GRC is far less of a critical issue than the removal of a diagnosis of dysphoria. In so doing, they are opening up the process from a defined group to anyone and everyone with no checks or safeguards.”'

Yes. Six months or three months, makes.no fucking difference. Address the central issues, SNP. 70+% of the electorate oppose self ID. For a populist party this is a very, very odd tack.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 13/02/2022 09:45

Claiming all Viking warrior women were trans is like saying all women who join the military must have a man gender identity.
They are trying to insert evidence where there is non to pretend this ideology is real and always been around.

Absolute bollocks.

Igneococcus · 13/02/2022 09:31

I think the Times might be pushing it a bit by calling Sacha Coward a "leading historian".

What new fuckery is this?

“Queer theory is an important part of archaeology and can help us understand the complexity and diversity of past societies.”
