Great article in Spiked Online about Mridul Wadwha's latest shenanigans:

www.spiked-online.com/2022/02/01/the-thought-police-are-here/

To briefly summarise:

  • Mridul was born male
  • Mridul is legally male with no GRC
  • Mridul is the CEO of Edinburgh Rape crisis
  • Mridul claims women who want female only rape crisis services are bigoted and should 'reframe their trauma'
  • The CEO of a domestic violence charity Nicola Murray stopped referring women to Mridul's rape crisis service due to Mridul's misogyny
  • Mridul reported Nicola Murray to the police for committing a hate crime
  • The police actually visited Nicola Murray to question her thinking

Perhaps they reported her charity, meaning Nicola was not the "subject of a complaint".

barleybadminton · 04/02/2022 22:31

@IamSarah

Our article “Police interview charity chief after tweet ending referrals to rape centre” (Jan 29) and subsequent articles reported that Police Scotland interviewed Nicola Murray, the head of the Brodie’s Trust domestic abuse support group, about a reported hate crime. The police have now confirmed she was not the subject of a complaint or investigation.

This sounds to me like a hate crime was reported but the police did not identify that a crime had been committed or follow it up.

Which fits exactly with what Mridul said.

It clearly says she was not the subject of a complaint which means no-one had reported her.
Helleofabore · 04/02/2022 22:26

without being part of any official complaint.

Helleofabore · 04/02/2022 22:25

Thanks MNHQ. But purgatory covered it anyway. Grin

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 04/02/2022 22:24

So there is some trick to link to archive, which we do not have.

Thank you Purgatory. My post has been put in stasis for saying the same thing as you.

@IamSarah

I've been raped Sarah, I don't need to ask someone else's experience.

I'm sorry that happened to you. Would you be able to talk about it with the embodiment of your rapist? Would you be able to talk about it in a women's group with a man, dressed in male clothes, leaning back and smiling at you? Because that's what happened to me.

I fully support you having the provision you need, I want to see more provision and a better range of provision. I would not support shutting down NIA for their policies, and I wouldn't support shutting down trans inclusive organisations either. We should be attacking the appalling state of funding and fighting for more rather than attacking individual providers who are struggling to meet as many people's needs as they can in an underfunded system.

The Times, which originally broke this story, has now published a retraction stating that this whole story is in fact completely untrue,

And this is what is known as spin. Doesn't say that.

and Nicola Murray was never visited by police So is this. It doesn't say that.

So nor was she the subject of a complaint (see under Feb 2nd)

It says she is not under investigation and there wasn't a complaint. What wordplay that signifies, I don't know, but it does not mean she did experience the intimidation of a police visit.

What it says.

How odd. As I posted that it was immediately hidden. What happened there?

It's only February and this is already the third time this year the Times has published an inflammatory story about trans people and subsequently entirely retracted it.

It's about time some people on this board started exercising some reasonable scepticism. Next time you read some outrageous story about trans people that makes you think you can't believe this is the world you live it - consider you might be right not to believe it.

I may have missed further information on this but the archived article you've linked to doesn't say she was never visited by police. It says 'The police have now confirmed she was not the subject of a complaint or investigation.' That's quite vague and could mean she was visited, but not as part of an investigation. Why would she lie about this?
SheldonesqueTheBstard · 04/02/2022 22:11

A man permanently altered my face and broke the rest of me.

I don’t wish to be that vulnerable ever again.

I’m sure I wouldn’t have wanted to be in the presence of another man when I was at my most vulnerable.

No matter how much I was asked to reframe my trauma or address my ‘bigotry’, it would not change my utter need to be in the presence of women and only women to feel safe.

We should be able to access a safe space. And that is what it boils down to.

Women need a service and they overwhelmingly prefer female support. This is precisely why the Equality Act references rape survivor support groups as an example when describing why single sex spaces are sometimes necessary.

This.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/02/2022 22:02

I've been raped Sarah, I don't need to ask someone else's experience.

That wasn't actually the question. Not what you are happy with, but what you would support for women.

barleybadminton · 04/02/2022 22:00

Stonewall could probably offer individually tailored support without breaking stride. Yet they don't. Why is that?

Because they have neither the funding in place or the expertise to do so.

If it was your mum, sister or daughter who had been raped would you support her if she only wanted to recover with other females?

I've been raped Sarah, I don't need to ask someone else's experience.

IamSarah · 04/02/2022 21:51

barleybadminton 90% of adult rape survivors are women.

98% of people believe women should have the option of a single sex rape crisis group.

Women are being let down and gaslit by the organisations that are supposed to help them.

If it was your mum, sister or daughter who had been raped would you support her if she only wanted to recover with other females?

Or would you be like Mridul and tell her to reframe her trauma?

Also recall that Women s shelters in Scotland lost funding to 'gender neutral' service provision. Company providing this was linked to Mriduls husband iirc.

DomesticatedZombie · 04/02/2022 21:44

We've had a first hand report from woman on here of how a disinterested Mridul made a service user feel unsupported and uncomfortable.

And if they decided to only work with those born biologically female then the services would be removed for trans women, and quite possibly trans men, intersex women and non binary people would also not feel comfortable using them.

Women need a service and they overwhelmingly prefer female support. This is precisely why the Equality Act references rape survivor support groups as an example when describing why single sex spaces are sometimes necessary.

And why ERC specified a female was required for the role that Mridul took. Despite being male.

Rape victims are overwhelmingly female. And of course perpetrators male. There will be a very very small need for transwomen to access a service like this; Stonewall could probably offer individually tailored support without breaking stride. Yet they don't. Why is that?

barleybadminton · 04/02/2022 21:43

@IamSarah

And if they decided to only work with those born biologically female then the services would be removed for trans women, and quite possibly trans men, intersex women and non binary people would also not feel comfortable using them.

So what about my local rape crisis service that has a dedicated trans, non binary and intersex group? And also welcomes trans women into the womens only groups? Trans women have 2 groups to choose from. T

Women like me who asked for one ADDITIONAL single sex group are refused and blocked.

Why would a rape crisis centre do that? Who is their priority?

The funding of VAWG services is in perpetual crisis and the sector is run by indepedent charities who can work with whichever services users they want. If you don't like that model, and there are good reasons not to, take it up with the government not the frontline organsations. It is not their fault if alternative provision does not exist and it is unfair to attack them for it. They have chosen to be a trans inclusive service, they are the ones getting up every morning to do the work and it is their right to decide what can of service they offer and who to - provided they remain within the Equality Act - and there is nothing in the act whch prevents service providers from offering a service to two different protected groups.
barleybadminton · 04/02/2022 21:31

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

The constant force-teaming of people with medical conditions, and subtle othering of them, as if they aren't women. That's what.

You remind me of the kind of person who thinks people with Down Syndrome aren't human. If you don't like being so eeriely reminiscent of such people, take your foot out of your mouth, and put a sock in there instead.

I thought the general consensus here is that people like Castor Semanya aren't women. They still deserve services if they are sexually abused though and I'm glad that inclusive organisations exist which provide them. I'm not really interested in getting hung up on the topic except that they are one group likely to be excluded were Edinburgh Rape Crisis to change their policies and only offer a service to biologically born females.
BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 04/02/2022 21:29

fuck me Barley

all people with disorders of sexual development are male or female (because every human is)

fuck off with your othering of them
