@borntobequiet

I wonder if CN or her aides have gone to the trouble of retrospectively coming here and reading threads like this, resulting in her wisely shutting up and keeping her head down. Hopefully she’s learned something.
You’d hope but in Caroline’s case, I very much doubt.
vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 04/02/2022 10:09

I'm assuming there will be someone from the MPs offices keeping an eye on this thread

I feel totally disrespected by those two MPs.

Would Stella Creasy have turned up to a web chat with a bunch of bankers with her baby on her lap?

I believe she would have organised child care so she could give the people she was speaking to her full attention.

She underestimated us. She believed the crap you read online about how MN is full of ditzy ladies talking about ephemera. There is that on here, and I'm rather partial to a bit of that myself, but that is not what this board is.

Caroline Noakes was no better. She came with a slogan and not her brain. She did not answer any of our points, she batted the away and told us to behave nicely.

If either of those women want the votes of other women they had better start treating us with the same respect as they would give to an anonymous selection of men.

You never know who's on here, but it is clear that there are some people who really know what they are talking about. A smart politician would have done her homework and come with an enquiring mind rather than having the audacity to tell us what the accepted topics of conversation were.

I'd really like them to come back. Doesn't need to be official, there's no real way to spin that for a political win - come and lurk, Caroline and Stella. Sign up and read and learn. I've got interesting and important things to tell you which will get you more votes than the Stonewall script will. And, I'm far from alone.

To quote the greatest political mind I have ever known:
"Come the fuck in or fuck the fuck off."

That's why I think #beeeekind was contrived.

@BernardBlackMissesLangCleg

Yeah, Noakes’s ‘fault on both sides’ thing nearly made me snap my pencil in half

The behavior of feminists seeking to ensure women’s opinions are taken into account is in no way comparable to the behaviour of some of the high profile trans activists (bus stop flashing (Jess Bradley), hounding women from political office (Lily Madigan), advocating for violent pornography (Jane Fae), violence against women (Kellie Maloney))

Of course not. But there are plenty of people willing to compare women's angry tweets with male's actual violence. As we've seen.

Maria McLachlan being reprimanded for failing to use the correct pronouns for her (male) assailant springs to mind. Wolf's sentence was reduced on that basis, iirc, which to me suggests misgendering there has been directly equated with actual physical violence.

PronounssheRa · 04/02/2022 09:32

Brown being fed the questions by aides and them neglecting to pass on the biscuit question (apparently regarding it as trivial), so he didn't know he was being asked

I assumed that Stella and Caroline also had aides check the questions ahead of the chat to make sure they were sufficiently prepped. Which makes their performance so mind boggling. They didnt read the room, sought to lecture and patronise rather than listen and crucially had no clue about the people who post here and how to engage with us.

Alekto · 04/02/2022 09:27

This whole debacle has at least caused Glosswitch to write another Mumsnet article thecritic.co.uk/much-ado-about-mothers/

@334bu

" Biscuitgate" ? Sounds interesting. What Mumsnet scandal was that?
It's traditional on MN when politicians do a webchat to ask them what their favourite biscuit is. When Gordon Brown came on many years ago people kept asking him about his favourite biscuit and he kept not answering.

Difficult to credit now, but it was big enough to make the news at the time. The explanation was something to do with Brown being fed the questions by aides and them neglecting to pass on the biscuit question (apparently regarding it as trivial), so he didn't know he was being asked.

The whole 'both sides as bad as each other' is just such crap and is clearly the new anti woman tactic now that people are waking up to this whole thing. One side are asking questions, the other are doing stuff like this www.terfisaslur.com

DomesticatedZombie · 04/02/2022 08:42

Hm. s women's views become more and more reported in the press and more and more people realise what's happening I daresay a huge dose of both sides-ism and 'be kind' and tone policing is about to be another layer of defence.

'No debate' is over, but we can still be criticised on the grounds of not being nice enough. This will work. Ingrained sexism is keen to condemn women who aren't playing the correctly submissive and smiling passive role.

It very easily slides into 'shrill screeching feminazi' accusations, and all the insults are sitting there ready made and delighted to be recycled.

DomesticatedZombie · 04/02/2022 08:37

Ah, was this maybe an exercise to demonstrate how terrible and nasty and vile women are? Or, women who aren't the naice kind and compliant types?

DomesticatedZombie · 04/02/2022 08:36

retweet anyone who's rude to her, tweets very much in the minority, while ignoring all the hundreds of polite questions asked in good faith

While I agree nobody should be rude, it's no use trying to throw a few rude tweets up like a kind of smokescreen/distraction to protect you from the terrifying polite questions.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/02/2022 08:05

Yes, that's the lines I was thinking along, Pear.

PearPickingPorky · 04/02/2022 07:19

@FOJN

I think that's why they said it. It felt very contrived, and almost immediately hostile.

That's an interesting point of view. I was surprised to see two experienced parliamentarians deploy "be kind". Clearly it's not how they handle differences of opinion in the HoC, nothing would ever get done.

Do you think they wanted to cultivate a hostile atmosphere? Why?

Because they both knew they were going to get eaten alive once they did their Stonewall-mandated early pledge to the Holy man-women, and that by doing so the webchat would cease to be about This Mum Votes, so they had to tell everyone afterwards all about how mean women are (which, of course, the anti-women activists will love, and will team up with Stella to join in with, eg Felton) rather than their own inadequacies.

ScreamingMeMe · 04/02/2022 06:52

This is worse than Biscuitgate, isn't it?

chilling19 · 04/02/2022 01:40

So Stella - a rite of passage for me was being allowed to go to the loo on my own. Before lockdown in 2020, my female granddaughter (13] wanted to do this - and we tagged teamed as a family in case there was a man(no matter how he identified) in the loo. Are you honestly telling us you wouldn't do the same for your wriggly baby? Or is your female child going to be immune to this threat? Once the safeguarding door is open we are all at risk.

SirVixofVixHall · 04/02/2022 00:02

@Franca123

What do we pay MPs for if it's not to take the time to fully consider important issues like this. It makes me so angry that she is being paid a handsome salary by us, refuses to sort out child care and then is so ignorant on such an important issue. It has made me reconsider my views on our whole parliamentary system. I had quite a serious conversation last night about the merits of a randomly selected parliament. People would be called up to parliament like we are now for jury service. The current system is simply not giving us the calibre of people that we need.
Totally agree on the calibre of people. The main thing stopping me getting more involved in politics is that they are all so bloody awful , imagine having to work with them. Two elected Members on here and they can’t even listen to women, then one of them goes on Twitter and makes herself look even more self obsessed and clueless. She went to Cambridge ! What did she read , Patronising ? With a post grad in Egotism ?

@MiladyBerserko

God Im so sick of women being told to be kind. I am being kind, to women. Not males who want to colonise womanhood.

The baby on the lap was so cynical. Did she think MN would coo at the baby and nod in womder at her feat of combining motherhood and public office?

DH has just said the same thing, so contrived .

While Stella Creasy is having a mare.

Of her own making. The more she posts the less respect I have for her.

Same, and I had almost none to start with.
