Oh god yes! Lola Ferrari.

Groomed by an older man who became her husband, convicted drug dealer, her pimp (convicted), promoter and suspected murderer (cleared, eventually).

Poor woman!

PriamFarrl · 02/02/2022 07:31

@SamphiretheStickerist

People like this young man need to know what they face.

Pete Burns, addicted to surgery, dead because of surgery at the age of 57

And this has been the case for a number of clearly mentally ill people over the years. Do you remember the woman on Eurotrash that had so many breast enlargements? And there was the woman who kept having surgery to look like Barbie.

'Identifying' as a celebrity is quite creepy really. It's not uncommon for celebrities and public figures to have stalkers. If 'identifying' as Jimin involves going to places he frequents, making unsolicited contact with him or feeling like there is a special connection to him that's quite risky behaviour. Probably there isn't, but it's already highly unusual to be having surgery (on your penis!) to make yourself look like a specific celebrity.
Also how on earth is he privy to what a K-pop star’s penis looks like? It’s so odd, I’d feel so violated.

Who is paying for all this surgery? And why? I was just reading a lot a trans woman in Seattle who now says that they are (also?) a Wolf. It didn’t say if they were planning surgery for a tail and ears.

2Rebecca · 01/02/2022 08:03

If he wants to look more Korean then dying his hair brown rather than blonde would work better. The penis thing just sounds like he's belittling Koreans

I’ve often thought that actually identifying as another living person would be a good illustration of why identifying as the opposite sex is so insulting. If I identify as you, does that mean I am you and that means I have a right to enter your house and eat your food, or take an award you’ve won and make a speech? Most people can see how ridiculous that is and how outrageous it would be if it was legitimised (I hope!) yet that’s how males are just getting to take over women’s spaces, groups, awards etc.

So I do think stories like this are good for making people think, but I am sorry for Oli too. If he has a deep-seated feeling of not wanting to be himself, this isn’t the solution.

Kanaloa · 01/02/2022 04:29

Also what does he mean he ‘identifies as Jimin?’ As far as I’m aware you can’t identify as a real life person who actually exists. You could idolise them for sure but you can’t say you identify as that actual person. I mean you don’t even know who the person is! They might be a dick or be really into olives which you hate or be massively stupid. You don’t really know their identity.

Kanaloa · 01/02/2022 04:26

I just feel sad for him to be honest. ‘I feel 100% Korean.’ What nonsense. No matter how Korean he feels it’s irrelevant. I can ‘feel’ 100% Nigerian or Danish or German and it wouldn’t make a jot of difference because I have no heritage from any of those countries and any understanding I have of the culture is a surface understanding from an outsider. He will simply never be able to ‘feel 100% Korean because he isn’t.’

PrincessNutella · 01/02/2022 04:02

This may be news, but sadly, aren't there a lot of young Korean and other Asian women (and men) who have had plastic surgery to look more Western? Apparently the most popular plastic surgery in South Korea is double eyelid surgery. Transracial surgery is nothing new and it is a sad thing.

SantaClawsServiette · 31/01/2022 21:08

I don't think cosmetic surgery should be considered medicine in any way, and it should be completely separate to what doctors do. The practical problem is there is a fuzzy line between what is cosmetic and what is reconstructive. But lots of what goes on falls very clearly on one side, and the acceptance of that has a lot to answer for in some extremely ugly social trends.

But he's not trying to look korean is he, he is trying to look exactly like some guy from BTS (who is korean) theres a difference

Is there? If he’s trying to look exactly like someone who is Korean, then looking Korean would be part of the desired outcome surely.

Here’s Jimin, I don’t think oli looks like him.

Yes but there was plenty of people trying to look like Micheal jackson and god alone knows what he himself was trying to look like.

its not the same trying to look like an ideal then a race.

TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder · 31/01/2022 19:11

Though the whole surgery thing is real, he really does always seem to be taking the piss out of the whole ‘identify as’ ideology. He doesn’t take himself too seriously either. Maybe he has MH issues, maybe he doesn’t, but I’m not wholly convinced he actually means that he believes he is Korean.

SirSamuelVimes · 31/01/2022 19:05

London continued: "And, you know, people might think, 'Oh, I'm such a joke.' But you know what, guys? You don't understand. If you're trapped in the wrong body your whole life, you don't understand."

Well, he's certainly got the hyperbolic 'wrong body' claptrap down pat.

CatSpeakForDummies · 31/01/2022 14:55

I think there was a move from corrective cosmetic procedures, where people with unusual features had them made more in line with average appearances, towards making your features a lifestyle choice.

Obvs a cosmetic surgeon has more patients/money if he's asking everyone "which would be your favourite nose?" Instead of only asking people with unusual noses.

kagerou · 31/01/2022 14:26

kagerou · 31/01/2022 14:25

My partner is Korean and my DD is half, it pisses me off no end to see their identity reduced to some pop culture obsession.

As a side note my DP was the one who originally showed me this person. Korean people just think its pathetic.

Whatwouldscullydo · 31/01/2022 13:37

In many cases that could well be the case.

Some people get addicted to plastic surgery . Some constantly find fault with their bodies then Think surgery will fix it.

There's alot of money in plastic surgery therefor it stands to reason that some drs will be profiting from ethically dubious procedures.

I think expectations can act as evidence . Someone saying "I've lost loads of weight and od like this skin removed because it sags and rubs amd hurts now" is different to " I'm not Korean but I.want to look Korean please risk my sexual function by reducing my penis size to the average size of a Korean.man..even though I'm.not Korean.and nor will I ever be"

PriamFarrl · 31/01/2022 13:28

If it's not mentally ill to inflict so much unnecessary surgery on a healthy body for aesthetic reasons then what is?

But then would we say that of a woman having a breast enlargement, nose job, tummy tuck?

OhHolyJesus · 31/01/2022 13:15

I didn't think penis reduction was possible, inverted penis surgery I had heard of, but can they chop off a bit and it still functions? I guess you chop it into 3, remove the mid section and stitch the two ends back together and hope for the best?

I'm also wondering how many Korean penises London has seen to get the idea that all Korean penises are smaller than his? Surely they come in different shapes and sizes like all other penises?

This is another lesson in how abiding by stereotypes is harmful.

Off to Google penis reduction surgery...
