Woman on ward - complains about male patient. Is discharged.

Going on twitter. She was in a Women’s ward (signage says ‘women’ but later this was disputed by staff).

Another patient on ward ‘Annie’ (not real name). Visitor comes in ‘Hello Fred’.

Woman patient complains that there is a male in the ward. Staff come on handed and tell her that there isn’t (and that there were no single sec wards) - and treated as if she is a troublemaker.

Woman mysteriously discharged PDQ, although not quite feeling well enough in herself.

Baroness is on the case.

It would be hard to hide a penis.

Indeed it would be.

Maybe Barley is American? Like other past posters, they do seem to look at things through a very American-centric lens.

Ahh, they've come to educate the women of t*rf island in their own special way.

It's not working out well for them is it.

@barleybadminton

So is anyone going to answer the question of what criteria medical staff should use to allocate sex if someone is unable to communicate or they are suspicious that someone wasn't born the sex they say they are?
I assume they will access the patient records, if there are no hospital records they can look to see what Gp they are registered with and find out that way. If the patient cannot communicate who they are or anything else, they will look for ID on the patient and search for medical history from that name, and from any relatives that can be traced. Patients will almost certainly have every part of their body observed at some point by staff. It would be hard to hide a penis.

@Rheopecticfluid

People are frequently admitted to hospital with no ID or not enough detail to establish their records.

And which people might you be referring to here?

The people admitted to hospital with no ID or not enough detail to establish their records.
Rheopecticfluid · 03/02/2022 20:31

It's the hypocrisy that got me and/or lack of self awareness.

Indeed you practice this well.

Shock horror when a woman gets misgendered the poor thing.

Men identifying as women on women's wards / spaces? Fine by you. #nothing to see here

You're just desperate for your gotcha moment. But it simply exposes exactly what you are. Which is great exposure for the lurkers. So keep going. Honestly I have to give you credit for helping expose this to people. I'm sure you're gender critical really.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 03/02/2022 20:30

Well NHS records are helpful for that. As long as they are recorded accurately. Which currently they are not, esp when birth certs are altered. And obviously everyone's NHS record is accessed when in hospital.

Didn't you know that?

Maybe Barley is American? Like other past posters, they do seem to look at things through a very American-centric lens.

barleybadminton · 03/02/2022 20:30

Do you or do you not think that women have the right to a single sex, female only ward where they can be guaranteed that everyone in there is actually female?

But that isn't practically possible.

And what about male guests, porters, nurses, cleaners and doctors?

Hasselhoffsheadband · 03/02/2022 20:29

What you seem to want is a culture where male people can be placed in women's hospital wards, and no-one reacts; no-one self-excludes, no-one feels increased suspicion, no-one becomes more cynical about media reporting.

It's not going to happen.

Exactly.

barleybadminton · 03/02/2022 20:28

Medical records should record biological sex accurately, for many reasons. That's what medical treatment should be based on.

Medical records aren't always available. And it depends, Castor Semanya as an example was assigned female at birth yet some people on this thread said she should be in a men's ward.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 03/02/2022 20:27

@EeeICouldRipATissue

That's right. So own it It's the hypocrisy that got me and/or lack of self awareness. As in Look what you made me do! Seeing as that's what anyone being abusive does and says, I'm surprised (actually, no I"m not) that when it's somebody so called GC doing it, it gets overlooked, forgiven or yeah, so own it!
I don't really understand your post here, but my question for you is this?

Do you or do you not think that women have the right to a single sex, female only ward where they can be guaranteed that everyone in there is actually female?

Yes or no?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 03/02/2022 20:27

@EeeICouldRipATissue

You must be proud of your contribution to this situation Never mind you know, the woman kicking off at the other woman, she's an innocent in all this is she?! Trans people and allies, this is your fault! Look what you made us do! Hmm
Yes, a distressed, scared woman in hospital who feels unable to trust medical staff is innocent.

I don't know if you've been refusing to read other people's posts over the years, but this has been pointed out again and again: if you make it clear that wards will be mixed sex and that staff will be instructed to lie about it, women will be placed on high alert. If women feel they have to screen their wardmates personally for their own safety, there will be false positives.

So perhaps don't lie to female patients in the first place?

If people like you weren't insisting on making female spaces mixed sex, and ensuring that women can never be somewhere guaranteed to be free from males, then situations like this one wouldn't arise would they?
WorkingClassWoman · 03/02/2022 20:20

How many people have their birth certificate with them when they are admitted to hospital?

If your birth certificate matches your biological sex then hospitals can assign you appropriately. Since they rely on self id and medical records that have been changed so they don’t correctly identify sex we have a problem.

@DoubleYouOhEmAyEn

We are being gaslit. It's enough to drive a woman insane. Mysoginistic bullying on a huge scale.
When was the last time you saw any newspaper mention 'people with testicles'? The world seems to be filled with men and people with vaginas/who menstruate It's all going to rat-shit
PurgatoryOfPotholes · 03/02/2022 20:18

What about keeping and using accurate medical records, Barley?

@Rheopecticfluid

And if medical staff had decided this woman was trans and placed her on the men's ward and she was abused that's just fine then is it?

Oh your faux concern is touching.
Shame you don't extend that to women being forced to share sex segregated spaces with men.
But in answer to your concern, if birth certificates were accurate rather than altered, there would be no need to place anyone in the space of the opposite sex.
Would there.

I started a thread about this at the weekend, but it stayed a bit under the radar. I hope it's OK to link it here.

It looks like hospitals will no longer be fined for breaching single sex wards anyway. Women just don't matter.

Fines for hospitals who breach single sex ward guidelines have been relaxed. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4467170-fines-for-hospitals-who-breach-single-sex-ward-guidelines-have-been-relaxed
