Says more about the author’s motivations than any GC women. It’s always projection isn’t it.

A good look in the mirror would help, but they’d be too afraid to.

CompleteGinasaur · 27/01/2022 00:07

Galileo? Pissed off the Pope, convicted by the Inquisition, spent the last thirty years of his life under house arrest. Don't think you can get much more unpopular than that. Still bloody right, though, wasn't he? If it's a choice between the likes of Galileo, or Martin Luther King, or those heroic women brutalised under the Cat and Mouse Act, or too many more to count, then I'm going with the people who champion heliocentric celestial mechanics, or drag their country out of a barbarically racist collective mindset, or ... You get the picture. Indeed, being unpopular is almost an inevitable consequence of being right about something this important - stupid people will never thank you for pointing their stupidity out to them, after all.

(And if being popular sticks me in with Jolyon Maugham, Nancy Kelley, Aimee Challenor, Adrian Harrop.. I like it over here with the rejects, thank you very much).

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/01/2022 23:51

I'm just laughing at the idea of someone writing in the New Statesman and calling others "unpopular".

It's like when Lib Dem supporters have called GC feminists "a tiny, irrelevant minority".

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/01/2022 23:49

What was funny when replies to a Watford local newspaper website in a poll about "trans girls" being excluded from female single sex schools exceeded the entire population of Watford, due to heavy brigading. And the GC votes still just pipped it.

Enough4me · 26/01/2022 23:48

FFS women stop messing up the being unpopular here... there are simply too many of us agreeing. It's almost feels like it's normal for women to support women.

Aren't there only supposed to be a few ideology unbelievers, who are thick, probably can't read?

We are acting like women with independent thought yet again, better lock us up.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/01/2022 23:46

As if TRA campaigns don't "spam hashtags" Hmm they admit they don't actually have a clue who is a "bot", but it's all "inauthentic" even if it's just dedicated humans retweeting.

PickAChew · 26/01/2022 23:41

We're doing something right, then.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 26/01/2022 23:38

@Ereshkigalangcleg

a frenzied campaign began on social media in support of it, with the hashtag #KeepPrisonsSingleSex.

A "frenzied campaign"? Rather than people doing the very common thing on Twitter which is sharing a popular hashtag?

Let us always remember the different multipliers for GC commenters.

@ 20 decorous but dissenting posts = pile on and justification for mass blocking. See Fawcett Society interim CEO.

GC people with a hashtag = definitely frenzied killer bots.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 26/01/2022 23:38

Well I bloody love you all.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/01/2022 23:36

Incidentally, does anyone know if trans women actually ARE at more risk in prison (in the male estate, for avoidance of all doubt) than gay men are? Nobody says that gay men are too vulnerable for imprisonment; nor are they offered protected spaces as a matter of policy; but they are vulnerable (& will be viewed by peers as transgressing all kinds of boundaries) in a prison environment, so…

Or men who owe money. Or sex offenders. Or convicted police officers. All of whom would have been on Rule for their protection. Not put in women's prisons.

PermanentTemporary · 26/01/2022 23:30

I agree with another tweet of hers saying that women not being 'nice' is too often equated with abuse.

I know my views aren't popular. I'm constantly trying to work out where I stand. I come back to needing basic concepts to understand the world and each other. I'm glad that most transwomen cause no issues in women's prisons, since policy requires some to be placed there. It doesn't make males into females. It doesn't make sex nonexistent or irrelevant.

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 26/01/2022 23:15

More or Less debunks myths about stats.

I’m sure there is fertile ground if they want to go there.

DdraigGoch · 26/01/2022 22:40

I'm just laughing at the idea of someone writing in the New Statesman and calling others "unpopular".

I mean, have they seen the circulation figures compared with those of the Spectator?

NitroNine · 26/01/2022 21:57

Because it’s all about popular Hmm

Honestly, dangerous to house trans women in units designed specially for them on the male estate?! Where is the danger? Actual danger, I mean, like the actual violence & rapes resultant from transferring male persons - however they may identify - into the female estate. Not “violent male sex offenders who identify as women are not getting access to women and they are Dreadfully Upset about this”. Being upset =/= being persecuted, threatened, oppressed, or endangered.

chilling19 · 26/01/2022 21:53

The recognised route to 'being popular' is through being a complacent female who accepts the inequality of patriarchal practices. So, by definition, Radfems are indeed not popular and glad not to be so. I think the author has missed the point somewhat.

BraveBananaBadge · 26/01/2022 21:53

This seems to be the way their narrative is starting to bend. I saw someone on Twitter today trying to argue that only a "minority" of people have GC views, but those that do have no idea of the harm those views are doing to women and girls.

Still scratching my head over that one.

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 26/01/2022 21:49

KLM nailed it.

WandaWomblesaurus73 · 26/01/2022 21:46

@KittyLeMew

Dear FUCKWIT, I wouldn’t have given a shiny shit if there was only one person sharing this hashtag on Twitter, if there were none, if it was just one lone person screaming it into the void - women should not be forced to share prisons, cells and showers with male-bodies people, including murderers, rapists and paedophiles, many of whom are gaming the system, and want access to vulnerable women. There are already numerous women who have been raped, assaulted and abused. You have zero fucking awareness, you care more about your pathetic, thoughtless, idiotic virtue signalling than the rights and realities of women, many of whom have been abused their entire lives. Seriously go fuck yourself you deluded, privileged MORON. Signed KLM (unpopular non fuckwit)

@Abhannmor
Yes the owner of NS is billionaire tech entrepreneur Mike Danson who
The Times ranks him as the 128th richest person in the UK with an estimated worth of £1.17 billion.

ArabellaScott · 26/01/2022 21:09

Call us 'unpopular' and we'll melt away like dew in the sun.

Nope.

ScrollingLeaves · 26/01/2022 21:06

“to move incarcerated trans women into “separate, specialised units”, in order to prevent cis female prisoners from being subjected to “violence” and “rape”.

As it didn’t say “to move incarcerated trans women who had committed sexual offences into separate, specialised units”; because it says “cis”; and because it used quotation marks to suggest hyperbole around the idea of the violence and rape women prisoners might be subject to …,I stopped reading after this paragraph because I lost any faith I might have had in the writer reporting objectively.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/01/2022 21:00

The Logically report and the NS coverage of it highlights just how easily stats and data can be misrepresented and then uncritically shared by people who want to believe it.

YY. Fake news is where it's at. Splendid journalism all round, Sarah.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/01/2022 20:57

Always good to see professional journalism in action.

Oh yes, I knew I knew the name from somewhere, she got her arse handed to her Grin bitter!

Alekto · 26/01/2022 20:53

The word 'popular' seems to be having its moment in the TRA sun. Mx. Amanda Jetté Knox, who seems to have built an entire identity around being a particularly special parent, recently posted this:

"I guess there are some active TERFs in Ottawa?

I’ll just remind you a non-binary person with a trans wife & raising a trans kid was inducted into the Order of Ottawa last year.

AND we have a popular non-binary city councillor running for mayor.

Enjoy your unpopular views."

That's told terven Ottowa, and no mistake.
